How do I stay awake???

I worked the night before last for 12 hours night shift and then did not go to sleep the next day and went back into work that night for 12 hours and got 2 hours sleep today and am back for the 3rd 12 hour shift. I am so sleepy even the thought of driving home tomorrow scares me. I am also so sleepy I feel like I can fall asleep standing up, what can I do? Any suggestions? I am off for 2 days after tonight so I have to make it through almost 7 more hours.

Tomorrow is gonna suck cause a friend of mine is coming up at 9am to help me move my stuff into the house I just rented, this will take most of the day tomorrow and I have to drive my jeep with some of my boxes in it and I am moving about 40 min. away. I need sleep and don't have time for it. HELP!!!:doh!:

I've found that if I'm tired while driving that chewing and sucking on ice helps. I guess keeping your mouth cold will keep you from going to sleep.

Don't drink the antifreeze. That'll help.

Where did that come from?:spock:

boogblaster 09-23-2008 10:21 PM

Coffee and strong tea ... leave the window open when driving .. scream at yourself if you have too ....

Iowanian 09-23-2008 10:23 PM

Hit yourself in the whisker biscuit with a tazer.

That 5 hour energy (or generic brand has 6 hour) drink has worked for me before when I've needed to drive 4 hours on no sleep. If you can run and get some I think it will help - goodluck!

I can drink coffee all night and it doesn't affect my sleep, I guess where I have drank it for so many years it just doesn't work. Tea works but there is none here. Driving the 40 min to my new house tomorrow, possibly 3 or 4 trips has really got me bothered. The drive home does to actually.:shake:

It gets kinda busy again around here about 4am so I will be ok till I get in the jeep and head home then I will have to see, but damn 3 and 1/2 hours till 4am!!!:shake:

Laugh all you want to, but I'll bet a few thousand volts to the vulva would perk you right up.

Why don't you just drink and drive? That'll be just as dangerous for everyone else on the road as you....

People who Drink and Drive are just idiots, I have to work its not my choice and I have to move thats a must, you cannot compare someone who works to a drunk driver. Maybe it is dangerous but it is not intentional.

So you accidentally only got two hours of sleep in two days knowing you work 12 hour graveyard shifts?

Not trying to make you mad, but working that much without sleep wasn't exactly unavoidable.

There is a medication called Provigil that works amazingly well for situations like this. Mainly used for folks with sleep apnea, narcolepsy, shift work issues, etc.
