So, what foods do you crave, either establishment or actual product(s)?

Mine, I told you all a couple of weeks ago about my Big Mac and Whitecastle semi-annual cravings. I've been on a taco-burger craving lately too. Jdiddy, this benefits you living in neighboring Joplin. Carthage's Taco-Town has the best taco burgers ever, Taco-Via is a close second, Lee's Scummiters...

TIA :)

Ever since I ate at this place called Fox Bros BBQ here in Atlanta I've been craving BBQ again bad. It'd been a long time since I had something good here.

I big plate of something from Jackstack sounds good. So does some pizza from Lombardi's in NYC.

Bugeater 09-23-2008 10:54 PM

I would ****ing kill for a fresh White Castle right about now.

boogblaster 09-23-2008 10:55 PM

Some teriaki-chicken from this little chinese place in Emporia sounds good .. followed by some fresh out of the shower hair-pie

No, they're not, but I might just have to get some soon just to satisfy my craving. It really sucks, those are the only thing that I can't get anywhere near here. We have great pizza places, BBQ joints, sandwich shops and steakhouses. Whatever one could want, we have it, except for those. I have to either go to Minneapolis or St Louis, like that's going to happen anytime soon.

Near Cabbagetown I believe. It's by far the best BBQ I've had here. It's not KC, but it was very, very good.

http://www.foxbrosbbq.com/

Great brisket, mac and cheese, pit beans, fried jalepenos, fried pickles and banana pudding too. I guess I had these brisket taquito things too that were freakin great.

I'd drive down there right now if I knew I wouldn't get shot, and I knew they'd be open. Probably 0-2 there.....

SoCalBronco 09-24-2008 12:15 AM

Cream of wheat thats put in the fridge for 3 or 4 hours till its real cold and kinda of hardened. Then put some cinnamon on top, but not much.

TrickyNicky 09-24-2008 12:16 AM

Authentic Korean Bulgogi. Nice little place in Junction City called Korean Garden, right near the Westernmost entrance to Ft Riley. Some of the best I've had.

mylittlepony 09-24-2008 12:35 AM

Sushi, and I eat it once a week but honestly I could eat it everyday.

Reaper16 09-24-2008 12:42 AM

I get barbeque cravings at a rate something close to "constantly." I occasionally have very strong desires to eat at Blue Koi or to order the pasta tasting menu from Lidia's. I suffer from very real withdrawals of Shatto Milk Company product at times.

Note: all of this happens when I'm in Maryville during the school year. Maryville is where foodies go to die a miserable death.

Reaper16 09-24-2008 12:44 AM

Oh, and I get tremendous Shakespeare's Pizza (Columbia, MO) cravings about three times per year.

No chit. And some Popeye's chicken.

Fire Me Boy! 09-24-2008 06:31 AM

There are three places. And when I'm back in Missouri this weekend, I'll be visiting each.

Pizza Glen in Clinton, MO. That place is the best deep dish pizza ever. EVAR!

House of Chow in Columbia, MO. Best Chinese food in the state, with the best Springfield-style cashew chicken EVAR! Who'd have thought, Springfield-style cashew chicken is not available in South Carolina.

G&D's Pizza right next door to House of Chow in Columbia, MO. Best Greek-style pizza imaginable. I love that stuff.

Bacon cheeseburgers and fries from a place here in town called Ronnie D's. They have the best fries and the burgers are great.

Been almost three years since I've had one. :(

Mr Yen's, and that place is freakin' expensive. Yes, Springfield still has plenty of Chienese food restaurants. It's just not something I eat everyday. Every few months, I get a craving for it, so I'll get take-out from Chinese Chef.

KCUnited 09-24-2008 07:12 AM

I crave the Anthony Joes Select Chicago Style Pizza from Tarantino's here in KC, as well as the chicken fried chicken from McCoy's, and a cheese burger from the Flea Market.

It's been a LONG time since I was there... just after they opened, so probably back in 98 or 99. I remember it being a little pricey, but very good.

Tricky

Here is a good recipe for Bulgogi Marinade

1/2 cup garlic chopped
2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup chinese black vinegar(balsamic will work fine)
1 cup sugar
2 apples or pears skinned and seeded
1/2 cup sesame oil
2 bunches green onions smashed and chopped fine

put the first six ingredients in a blender and puree
the add green onion and pulse 1-2 times

Pure marinade over thinly slice Ribeye and marinade for one hour
It is best grilled it can be stir fried

For Bul Kalbi use Beef Short Ribs (butterflied) and Marinate 4 hours.

Yes. The butter is great, but it's price point makes it more a of a special occasion type of treat. I just ate a pint each of the vanilla and chocolate ice creams last weekend. Unfortunately, they aren't worth the $3.59 per pint that I paid for them (at Hy-Vee in Liberty). Whereas with their milk, you can definitely tell the huge difference between Shatto and plastic-container A&E type stuff, the Shatto ice cream is kind of "just ice cream." It's good ice cream, but not mind-blowingly good like their milk is.

angelo 09-24-2008 08:20 AM

Reap

I would concur on the Ice cream and yes the butter is fantastic.
I use the butter to finish sauce's, just a small amount will make almost any sauce better.

Stroud's chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and cinnamon rolls.

A Gates Mixed plate (hold the ham for turkey)

A chocolate milkshake from Hi-Boys in Independence.

A Vegetarian Sub on wheat from the Sub Shop in Columbia, MO.

A Ted Drewes Concrete in St. Louis.

Lamar's Donuts, anything with chocolate on top

Chicken enchiladas from Manny's on Southwest Blvd in KCMO.

My current cravings:

1. JackStack, LC's, or Gates BBQ
2. Yello Sub in Lawrence: California Club
3. Pizza Shuttle in Lawrence: The Works minus the Black Olives
4. Cozy Burgers(will take care of that on Saturday :D )
5. Big Cheese Pizza (Pan: Italian Sausage, Mushrooms, Pepperoni, Anchovies, and Xtra Cheese)

I don't crave the regular pizza, just the Works....it's a greasy mound of goodness that I became accustomed to back in the day while getting ready to watch the Chiefs games. The regular pizza is nothing more than cardboard with some sauce and cheese on it. The Works is nothing like the regular pizza.

I crave foods from Baltimore, where I lived for over 20 years.

I crave steamed crabs and crab cakes. I crave pit beef sandwiches with horseradish and onions. I crave oyster bars. I crave pizza from a place called Dominiques and Italian cold cut subs from a place called Casa Mias and mushroom cheese steaks from a place called Marias and this Chinese noodle/cucumber/peanut/chili dish from a place called Uncle Lee's.

If I moved away from New Mexico I'm sure I'd miss the food here. Right now I miss the food there.

I forgot to mention the restaurants in Little Italy and Greektown. Damn, that sounds good.

We're right in the middle of green chile season. The groceries have their chile roasters set up in their parking lots. You buy the chile in the store and they'll roast it for you, the aroma is damn near intoxicating. The weather is just about ready to turn cool enough for making a pot of green chile stew. Mmmmmm.....

BBQ - Specifically smoked Prime Rib from Bobby D's in Emporia, but I could eat good Q every day of the week.

Chipotle

Pyramid Pizza in Emporia

There isn't a Wendy's in this goddamned town, and sometimes a man just wants a burger and fries.

Heh....scrapple is an "acquired taste". I hated it as a kid, decided it was tolerable as an adult, but I've sure never craved it. My step dad, on the other hand, puts scrapple for breakfast on the top of his "to do" list when he goes back to visit.

Old Bay is one of the finest seasoning blends ever created. It works on so many levels. I use it for virtually any seafood as well as burgers, fried chicken, cajun dishes, popcorn.....it's a must have in my spice cabinet. Also, the recipes on the side of the can for steamed shrimp and crab cakes are as good as any you'll ever find for those dishes.

Not to mention that I've met a few women for whom Old Bay seems to work as an aphrodisiac - but that's another story and a different type of craving.
