Todd Blackledge Jerseys

Today at the game I saw 3 different people have Blackledge jerseys at the game. And these weren't old ones, they were new Reebok ones. Why anyone want a Blackledge jersey?

ArrowheadHawk 09-28-2008 07:15 PM

He is one bad ass college football commentator.

CoMoChief 09-28-2008 07:16 PM

I saw that too. One in which was an authentic one. LMAO

gblowfish 09-28-2008 07:16 PM

That's like wearing a "Kick Me Hard" sign on your back.

banyon 09-28-2008 07:16 PM

Maybe it's a campy way of doing the paper bag over your head thing?

Basileus777 09-28-2008 07:17 PM

Wow. I'm speechless.

rocks 09-28-2008 07:20 PM

I saw the guy also. I wanted to go ask him how long he had been a Chiefs fan and did he know who Todd Blackledge was??? Crazy I tell ya!

Mr. Flopnuts 09-28-2008 07:21 PM

ABC fanboys?

T-post Tom 09-28-2008 07:23 PM

They're a tribute to Tyler Thigpen's talent.

Munson 09-28-2008 07:30 PM

I assume you kicked all of their asses and asked them why they had a Blackledge jersey on?:cuss:

No I was more shocked as anything. I mean you see random jerseys all the time but 3 people having Blackledge and new Reebok styles ones. Just weird.

teedubya 09-28-2008 07:35 PM

Carl should have NEVER drafted Blackledge. What a frickin IDIOT!

Ebolapox 09-28-2008 07:49 PM

heh, makes me want to go out and get one.

Flustrated 09-28-2008 07:50 PM

20 years from now, there will be a post just like this on the new and improved Chiefs planet "Virtual Reality," except the post will contain the name Croyle. :)

Deberg_1990 09-28-2008 07:51 PM

Weird??

There are far more deserving Chiefs players from that era who deserve a throwback jersey.

Is it something with obtaining the rights???

teedubya 09-28-2008 07:54 PM

I want a vintage 1995 #2 jersey.

Otis99 here at the Planet bought a Todd Blackledge Jersey a few years ago. He bought and wore it to protest Chief's Management. He has vowed to wear it until the Chiefs win a playoff game. He has had many people ask him about it over the past few years. It has finally caught on. Great timing too, he cancelled his Season Ticket Package before this year started. We went to High School together. He texted me after the Colts beat the Chiefs on their way to the Superbowl Championship and he said that teh Blackledge Jersey would live on another year.

I bought my Todd Blackledge jersey on May 24, 2003. I had no idea we were about to go 13-3 that year. We hadn't made the playoffs since 1997 and I figured what better way to voice my displeasure on some of the decisions this franchise has made over the years than to buy the jersey. My plan was (is) to retire it as soon as the Chiefs win a playoff game. Well, as I sit here typing this message I am wearing it, as I do every Sunday that the Chiefs play.

I have to admit that about half the reason that I bought it in the first place was just as a joke. The people that actually know who Todd Blackledge is think it's pretty funny. Most people have no clue who he is.

I am going to officially take credit for starting the trend. I've been going to Chiefs games regularly since the mid-1990s, and have never seen anyone else wearing a Blackledge jersey until after I bought mine. So you all have me to thank. I have seen a few others wearing one.

So if anyone sitting in section 317 saw me today, I hope I provided some amusement. I tend to make the occasional joke when our QB's performance (whoever that may be) falters that they should put Blackledge in.

Meanwhile, this old thing is getting worn out. Win a playoff game soon, Herm!

Bonus anecdote: I was at KCI last year about to fly out on a Sunday afternoon after a game. I left straight from the game to the airport so of course I still had my jersey on. A couple of Penn State fans stopped me in the middle of the terminal and told me how much they loved my jersey because Blackledge is still a legend there to this day. I didn't have the heart to tell them what I really thought of the guy - well, his NFL performance anyway, and our decision to draft him.

By the time I retire this thing, my only hope is that there is still enough of the lettering on the back that you can tell who it was.

Deberg_1990 10-09-2008 10:43 AM

Thats awesume Otis!

Now where can i buy a Bill Kenney jersey so i can start a new trend??

HemiEd 10-09-2008 10:47 AM

Cool story, I love that type of humor.

A few years ago, I got a great deal ($10) on some Bears Meir jerseys, and gave them to few Bear fans for Xmas. None of them thought it was very funny, nor have they worn them.

Oh Ari Chi3fs, you are right. Carl really screwed up when he drafted Blackledge.

I have considered buying a Trezelle Jenkins jersey when the letters start falling off my Blackledge jersey.

Part of the appeal of the Blackledge jersey, though, is that it's such an uncommon name that there is really no question who it refers to (although as I mentioned, most Chiefs fans seem to have no clue who he is). A "#74 Jenkins" would not have quite the same effect for that reason.

Maybe a "#22 Shehee" jersey would be better? I don't know. Probably not though because I don't think people expected Rashaan Shehee to set the world on fire like Blackledge or Jenkins.

L.A. Chieffan 10-09-2008 10:57 AM

Jenkins dude. Or Ryan Sims

Good stuff.

Yea, i would guess most fans under the age of 30 or so wouldnt remember Blackledge too much.

Heh. I don't own those two by the way. I was only merely suggesting to others if they want to go that route.

I think it's a lot more entertaining to use draft busts or flame outs for Chiefs jersey ideas than guys in the HOF. Percy Snow, now that's a jersey I could really enjoy.

I like how this thread has turned into "find the most obscure Chief that no one remembers from the past 15 years". Where's the love for Marvin "Snoop" Minnis?

I think in fairness, the player has to have had playing time in more than one game to qualify. Naming some random dude that was on the practice squad doesn't count. And bonus points if he was a draft day bust or a free agent flameout.

StcChief 10-09-2008 01:30 PM

so give Brokie about 10 years and he can qualify for a "Todd" award.

I believe you just disqualified Jesse Haynes.

Was Greg Hill too capable? I think his failure was really Marty's, so I guess he can avoid the list.

Greg Hill only counts if you have the jersey made with "Real Deal" on the back.
