Digg it del.icio.us AIM Mangino to urge KU students to refrain from profane chant
By J. BRADY McCOLLOUGH
The Kansas City Star
LAWRENCE | Kansas coach Mark Mangino will make a personal plea to the KU students, encouraging them not to continue with the profane pre-kickoff chant at the Jayhawks’ home games, KU associate athletic director Jim Marchiony said.

The chant — based on a line from the 1998 Adam Sandler comedy “The Waterboy” — states, “Rip his (expletive) head off,” referring to the opposing team’s kickoff return man.

KU will send a video of Mangino speaking to the student body over e-mail on Thursday, and the video will be replayed before the game on Saturday.

This latest attempt to stop the chant began last Friday when University Daily Kansan editor Matt Erickson called a meeting that included Marchiony, Director of University Relations Todd Cohen, student body President Adam McGonigle and KU linebacker Mike Rivera.

If they'd just change it to "rip his bloody head off", I wouldn't have a problem with it.

It may be a little less loud but it's college students. Some will respect the wishes but the others will just continue to do it simply because of the fuss they're making.

"Whap his peepee with a hairbrush"

"Make him poop his pants"

"Your quarterback eats boogers!"

Vailpass isn't a mountain the throughway to all the ski runs. Once you come out of the Ike you know you are almost there.
Steamboat rocks although there isn't as much whiskey swigging as there is blowing bowls in the pine trees in the middle of the run.

Up yours. I take two daughters, age 11 & 10, and a son, age 7, to every home game. Foul language is unnecessary at events that are billed as family entertainment. I chhos to sit in the "Family Zone", and I've jumped teenagers and college students for using foul language in that part of the stadium. When I hear the cheer, I yell, "Rip his bloody head off" so my kids can't discern what the idiots in the student section are really yelling.

You confuse censorship with etiquette and good taste. Just because a word exists doesn't mean it should be used. I doubt you would scream "Tackle that n*****!" because you think it sounds funny.

Break out your dictionary and look up the words "maturity" and "civility". Set a higher standard for yourself. Be a little more creative. You don't have to use gutter language to make a point. KU is known for a recognizable, original cheer. I'd rather not be known for the other one.

I'm not going to defend the classiness of the chant. However, it seems people forget what it was to be a kid. Kids never toe or cross the line, ever, right?

Also, this isn't racist, so that comparison doesn't work.

Since when have college students ever been mature? I'm usually on your side (Why can't they be?) but that's just not the reality.

Your argument is basically the equivalent of "have fun sober" to college frat guys.
