Why do you watch the Chiefs during a bad year?

I am in no way saying that this is a bad year, and if we caught a few breaks to things other than Brodie's bones, we could easily be undefeated.

But that aside, assume that for some reason this was a bad year for the Chiefs. Why would you watch the games?

Poll to follow faster than a Brodie Croyle dislocation upon contact.

TrickyNicky 10-12-2008 08:41 PM

Because I'm a true fan. duh.

2bikemike 10-12-2008 08:43 PM

Same reason I stare at Car Wrecks and Train Wrecks.

kcxiv 10-12-2008 08:46 PM

This is a pretty good trainwreck as stated above. This shit is comedy though how bad we suck on both side of the field.

GoTrav 10-12-2008 08:46 PM

because Herm is going to turn it around, duh

Ultra Peanut 10-12-2008 08:47 PM

Like Nick Cannon, it's hilaaaaaaaaarious.

JuicesFlowing 10-12-2008 08:47 PM

Because I'm a true fan, and I hate the other 30 teams. I do like Washington, but they are rarely on tv.

blueballs 10-12-2008 08:51 PM

even herm edwards chiefs
is better than no chiefs at all

Hammock Parties 10-12-2008 08:52 PM

They're my team. I watch them, even when I root for them to get their asses blown to smithereens.

Its Tradition

I started watching the Chiefs in 1993 when I first moved to Kansas. Before moving to Kansas I had no idea the sport of football even existed. We play baseball in Puerto Rico.

I've only missed a handful of games since I started watching back then... I can't imagine NOT watching them on Sunday.

kcfanintitanhell 10-12-2008 08:58 PM

It's on a game-to-game-thing nowadays. Been a fan for so long I can't imagine abandoning them for another team, even though it was tempting when the Titans/Oilers came to Nashville. Just looking for signs of progress...but I am getting soooooo tired.

blueballs 10-12-2008 08:59 PM

el borracho 10-12-2008 09:01 PM

I love the game of football and, win or lose, the Chiefs are the team I root for. Most years we only get 16 opportunities to see them play- how could I pass on such a limited opportunity? Besides, even when the Chiefs suck I still get to drink beer, eat bad food and watch the real teams play on the other tvs.

digi2fish 10-12-2008 09:02 PM

I love watching punts

Otter 10-12-2008 09:07 PM

I'm paying attention this season to see how Brodie develops and watching Carl for a lesson on not how to end my career.

ChiefsCountry 10-12-2008 09:11 PM

Chiefs are like family. Sometimes you are proud of them and alot of times you are embarrassed but in the end they are your family and you still like them.

Bearcat 10-12-2008 09:15 PM

For several years I watched because it was a habit... I guess because I was a "true fan". Every week I'd get excited for Sunday, and would watch no matter what...

Now I watch for the entertainment. I have a hard time watching NFL games live when I don't have anything else to do, especially on CBS, because of all the commercials. I no longer feel obligated to waste time watching the team fall further into irrelevance. I didn't see the Patriots game, and I've turned off every other game except the Broncos game by halftime. I couldn't imagine spending over $100 and then wasting 6+ hours at Arrowhead to watch something as bad at the home opener, just for the sake of watching the game (if I was a long time season ticket holder, and/or hosted or went to a big tailgate, knew everyone that sat around me, it would be a little different... I'd still probably leave by the 3rd quarter though).

Outside of the purposes of it being a social gathering or something on the television while doing other stuff, IMO, it's pointless to watch something as awful as last week's game. There's no gameplan, no improvement, and worst of all, not heart.

I'm no longer a glutton for punishment.

cdcox 10-12-2008 09:16 PM

Heh, not very many people were honest about the preverse enjoyment of watching them suffer or being hydercritical and they make it easy. I marked both of those and was surprised that more didn't.

I certainly don't like watching them suffer and I don't like being hypercritical. I might BE critical at times but I certainly don't like it.

that's number 2 but I hear we had a pretty good last 3 drafts, no?

blueballs 10-12-2008 09:24 PM

Who will be the next HC of the KC Chiefs
why would any vet HC with any self respect step into this steaming pile of dung
trade away your only proven players - get squat at coaching postions

Right click it and select "Set As Background". That was the first thing I thought of, too.

KCChiefsMan 10-12-2008 09:42 PM

because each loss is hopefully one step closer to Carl's demise

Next time you need help moving call the Chiefs and see what they provide for you.

I admire your stance in a way and I'm not from Missouri so I don't get to see what they give back but to me their a bad investment at this point.

Spott 10-12-2008 09:44 PM

Because I want us to lose every game while Carl and Herm are there.

morphius 10-12-2008 09:51 PM

I like to watch because it gets us one step closer to change, I still get to see some of our players occasionally make a nice play, and I get to hate a lot more of our players. Really, I'm to the point I just laugh, really. But hey, if the Chiefs ever do win a championship in my lifetime, I'll get an extra bit of enjoyment after this level of suckage.

alanm 10-12-2008 09:55 PM

The games come on here at 11am. What else is there to do at that hour?

I was 12 when they won in 1970. I'm 51 now. That's depressing in and of itself. :spock:

Well, your online persona is around 17, so you have that going for you! :D

prhom 10-12-2008 10:19 PM

I just can't be a fan of any other team. I've gone to countless Bronco games, and my entire family (except my brother) are Bronco fans, so it would have been easy to switch. I was in third grade when I went to my first Chiefs game and they sucked balls, but I was hooked. Man am I messed up...

keg in kc 10-12-2008 10:37 PM

I don't usually. Unless it's an interesting game.

chefsos 10-12-2008 10:55 PM

Once upon a time in the late seventies, I tuned in to a Chiefs-Oakland game. The Chiefs were, well, the mid-to-late '70's Chiefs. Awful. And these were the Madden/Stabler/Headed to the AFC title game every year against the Steelers type Raiders, you know?

And the Chiefs just beat the ****ing shit outta them, something like 42-10. I remember Oakland being close to their only TD in garbage time at the end, and the crowd (?) at Arrowhead was roaring, just doing anything to keep the bastards out of the end zone.

So, that's why I watch. Stuff like that might happen.

Pablo 10-12-2008 11:00 PM

Because laughter is medicine for the soul.

I almost burst every capillary in my lungs laughing when we trotted out our 2-headed monster tandem in Thigpen/Hagans.

ChiefJustice 10-12-2008 11:14 PM

I record every game.

Then I just look at the topics on the Planet after the game to determine
if I watch the game later that evening.

As a plus,it means I can fast forward through all the commercials.

Chief Faithful 10-13-2008 08:54 AM

I enjoy watching and following several teams, but the Chiefs are the team of my youth and home town. I am a Chiefs fan in good times and bad. The Chiefs are my team and I am faithful to them.

Reerun_KC 10-13-2008 09:11 AM

Have been watching since the 80's... Cant see myself rooting for anyone else.

So now I tune in to see if our owner has a spine or a pair... So far nadda...

I am pissed when the win and thrilled when the lose, only to see Herm and Carl gone.

They have taken the life out of this fan base, and they have no intention of building this football team to compete in the modern day NFL...

RJ 10-13-2008 09:26 AM

So far this year the Chiefs have been on TV once here in New Mexico. It was the Denver game. They probably won't be on again until the next Denver game. I should write the local stations and thank them for saving me from myself.

I'm not sure.

Hang on, I'm going to step on one of my testicles and get back to you.

sd4chiefs 10-13-2008 09:29 AM

I watch because I new they were going to suck so I placed a $500 bet in Vegas this summer that they would win less than 6 games. Easy money.

I root for the Chiefs......though recently it's been nothing more than them just ruining my Sunday afternoons.

Then I have to play Xbox 360 NCAA 09 to redeem myself.

Mama Hip Rockets 10-13-2008 10:49 PM

i'm addicted. it doesn't matter if they are 1-14, i'm still watching that last game. it's impossible not to watch.

boogblaster 10-13-2008 11:06 PM

Been watching since the 60s ... Partied with some Chiefs ... Somehow I'll watch them even after my demise ... Guess they're just part of me ...

patteeu 10-14-2008 07:36 AM

I've watched them since I was a kid so I guess it's partly tradition for me. But the truth is, I'm still just about as excited to see them every Sunday as I was when they were contending year after year in the 90's. I'm still always hopeful and optimistic when the game starts so I guess their mediocre-to-poor play over the past few years hasn't gotten to me yet. This season, I'm getting enjoyment out of the thought that the Chiefs finally decided to radically rebuild and out of the chance to watch all the potential Chiefs superstars of tomorrow.

The Chiefs game is funnier than the re-run of Weekend at Bernie's that's on Comedy Central.
