Giants101 says a deal for Gonzalez is on the table...

FWIW...don't shoot the messenger.

Rumors Swirl - Giants Close to Gonzo Deal?
We've been doing all we can to get some information on this Tony Gonzalez situation here at Giants 101, and I've just received word that a Gonzalez deal is on the table. The deal reportedly involves Giants third-year wideout Sinorice Moss and a mid-round draft pick - possibly a 5th round pick.

However, I've also been told that the Buffalo Bills have made a significant offer to the Chiefs for Gonzalez as well, that could include a higher draft pick than the mid-round pick the Giants have on the table along with Moss.

Updates to follow here on Giants 101..

So what do we know about Sinorice Moss ?

irishjayhawk 10-14-2008 12:54 PM

I don't want Sinorice Moss.

I'd rather take a gamble in the draft.

Gonzo 10-14-2008 12:55 PM

Sinorice Moss has done jack shit in 2 1/2 yrs.

No WR is going to shine here without a QB to throw them the damn ball, quit wasting your time Sperm.

But we have Huard /Carl

triple 10-14-2008 12:59 PM

great.. we trade a hall of famer and in return get a trash draft pick and a good player's crappy little brother. sounds awesome.

arrowheadnation 10-14-2008 12:59 PM

Me thinks Herm is seeing the last name Moss and going ape-shit for him without checking the name that comes in front of it.

sparkky 10-14-2008 01:00 PM

Losman and a 3rd from the Buffs?
Moss and a 5th from the Gmen?

tough call. I'd be happy with either, and happy for TonyG too. I have no problem with him wanting a shot at the SB.

irishjayhawk 10-14-2008 01:01 PM

I just don't see the lure. We need a QB, D-Linemen, O-Lineman, and a LB as well as a Safety. All of these should get priority over WR when we don't have a QB. Period.

Take a 3rd and 5th if that's the only other offer.

Now, if it was Moss and a 3rd rounder, I'd take it.

Reerun_KC 10-14-2008 01:03 PM

Just reported on 810 that it doenst look like a deal will be done for Tony...

Not suprising

okcchief 10-14-2008 01:04 PM

I would rather get David Carr than Moss. I know he's nothing great but he's better than anything we are putting out there. Plus, he used to getting sacked several times a game. The guy has the physical tools and I have a feeling he could be a late bloomer like a Plunkett or Gannon.

Stinger 10-14-2008 01:04 PM

According to the ESPN Radio update Micheal Smith says it now looks like the deals to trade TG are unlikely. Several formal offers have been received but only mid round picks were offered and the sources say the Chiefs will not move off of their demand of a second.

I'm torn. On the one hand, I'd like Tony to get the hell out. Been so loyal he doesn't need to go through Herm's incompetence and Carl's last gasp.

On the other, if the price isn't right, why bother.

:spock:

He may be a late bloomer, but it sure as hell won't be on the football field.

The same could be said for the three dipshits on our roster. What do you have to lose?

DJ's left nut 10-14-2008 01:08 PM

Moss is Dante Hall but worse.

Moss is worth, at best, a 4th rounder. More realisticallly is a 5th rounder.

If it's Moss and a 5th, I honestly think I balk altogether. He won't be around when we win, but he can certainly help get us there by working with a young QB and WRs.

Pushead2 10-14-2008 01:08 PM

Why are any of us on here shocked this deal never went down??? People here in NY weren't excited because the local media showed Carl as a douche and knew about his "stern trading".

Dayze 10-14-2008 01:11 PM

KK is such a douche; after reporting that the Eagles, Bills and Giants are the players in the TG deal; he then goes on to say "I put a 75% chance the deal gets done with either the Eagles, Giants, and Bills" lol

Boy...way to step out there on a limb KK. Moron

Good unless we are getting something of equal value back for him then keep him.. The Giants got a ****ing 2nd for Shockey, TG is twice the TE he is..

Not a valid argument IMO. Carr has had his chance and proven he can't cut it. I'd rather put Thigpen in than Carr....and I have no faith in Thigpen.

I agree.. You do not give up a star player that still has a good 3years left on this team, probably 4-5 sans injury on a great team for a ****ing 5th and a crappy player in return..

looks like TG should have been telling the other teams he is worth the 2nd.. Which if it is the Giants 2nd second is not much better then a 3rd sinch it will be in the 60's..

Not really amazing or surprising.

Tony is Carl's boy and he isn't going to let him go very easily

Just trade the sonofabitch and get it over with.

if he's Carl's "boy".. .then maybe he will understand right?

Tony goes to Carl and asks to be traded. Tony is clearly unhappy. Carl gets several offers but tells Tony "ahh, FU, I am not taking a third instead of a second".

I bet Tony is going to love that.

I read a rumor the other day anyway that he was considering retirement if he couldn't get out of his deal here.

Not picking on you, Valiant, but I've seen this so many times I have to ask a question.

Why do people think that TG has a "good 3 years left, probably 4-5 sans injury?"

There is absolutely nothing that backs up he'd even be here, much less as productive in 2011, 2012 or 2013.

However, there ARE articles and quotes that back up the fact that he thinks about retirement daily, and hasn't committed to a single snap past the 2009 season.

Is this nothing more than a case of wishful thinking that a fan favorite sticks around longer than is realistically expected?

It has nothing to do with a trade.

He said in training camp that he thinks about retirement daily, and is not committed to a single snap past the 2009 season.

He was looking forward to retirement well before he asked for a trade 3 weeks ago...

I agree with you but Carl isn't going to let him go that easy or cheaply.

Heck Carl and Trent were friends and he dragged out that trade for months.

That is not entirely accurate

This is from 9-24-2008

Quote:

Q: Do you worry that you might be a Charles Barkley and not get a title?

GONZALEZ: “I think about it. I keep using the word frustrating, but that’s pretty much the way to describe it. It’s frustrating to me, because I want to win. This is my 12th year and I don’t know how many years I have left. I don’t want to sit out here and go out with a losing record. But at the same time, I’m going to go out there and enjoy the moment. At the very least, I’m looking for the positives here, I get to play football. I love playing football, there’s no doubt about it, I still feel like I can perform at a high level. Twelve years, but I’m only 32 years old. I’ve got a lot of football left in me if I want to play that much longer. I’m just trying to go out there and perform. And have fun with it, if we’re not going to win, then get mad about it and next week hopefully we can win.”

Q: How much longer do you want to keep playing?
GONZALEZ: “Right now, I’m definitely coming back next year, but then after that we’ll reevaluate and see. I feel pretty good right now. Barring any serious injury, I know I could come back after next year, but we’ll see how it goes, I don’t really know right now.”

Obviously because he is 32 and as you get older you have to evaluate whether you want to keep coming back every year. How many times did Will Shields say he was thinking about retiring? Probably the last 5 years he was here.

Tony knows the end is getting near and he probably has 3 years left DEPENDING on what team he is playing for and how healthy he stays.

Carl doesn't have friends. He has people who are loyal to him, people he can still use to get something he wants, and people who have outlived their usefulness.

He didn't give a crap about Trent Green on a personal level. His actions proved that. He doesn't care about Tony. He will pee on anyone's shoes for a nickel because he's fucking napoleon

Triple you are preaching to the choir.

I only said that about Trent because he said they were friends. They probably aren't now though. :)
