Todd Peterson
Thoughts on Todd "the 2nd coming of lin elliot" peterson
|
I'd be much happier with Morten Andersen.
|
If Peterson was a horse he would have been shot a long time ago.
|
Morton would not have come here. He said that his love of the game was NOT what brought him back. His desire for a championship is what brought him back. He said he only had a few teams on his list, and the Giants were one of them. Otherwise, he said, he was happy retiring.
|
Bob Dole doesn't care what name the kicker's jersey has sewn on the back--Bob Dole is just damned tired of having to cringe and close Bob Dole's eyes any time at attempt is beyond the 25 yard line.
How we can continue to find the most weak-legged kickers in the NFL is beyond Bob Dole. We must have a special scouting team that looks for the buggers. We did manage to squeak a touchback (with the wind), but a miss at 37 yards is completely unacceptable. |
Today,
I'm in the mood to have Pederson Hung from the goal post and shoot him in the back of the nads 50 times with a pellet gun. He isn't the only one that played crappy yesterday and deserves the pellet treatment.....but.....I can miss a 30 yard field goal just as easily...sign me up Carl....Get my Signing bonus ready. |
Until he proves himself otherwise, Peterson will be known to me as Peter. Because he can't kick for di&k.
And for all of you who wondered why the Raiders spent a 1st round pick on Janakowski, if he didn't answer that question yesterday... there was one kickoff where he was kicking into the wind and he damn near put it in the 1st row of the stands. Oh, and he didn't miss a 25 yd FG. DT |
Why the hell we didn't go after Joe Nedney last year when he was released by Oakland is beyond me...
|
I'm guessing there are 4-5 HS kickers in the KC metro that can kick 30yard FG with some reliability....
~They're not doing anything on sundays anyway. If I'm GM....Pederson gets fired this morning. |
Is Nedney still available. I'm sure Tynes would like his job back.
|
Once again Iowa shows how we handle worthless placekickers and cattle rustlers up here in Iowa.
BTW Iowa - how was the Shakes party (until the end of course). Anything like Deliverence like imagined? :D ________________ diling-diling-diling-diling... lol |
pt,
Mr. Cat threw a very nice wing ding....He has a Chiefs shrine to be envied, a "man's man, TV room that would make the Tool man ARARARAR" excellent selection of malted beverages, good food, nice people....He also had the token "screw you iowanian, i'm on the 30yrd line" sign on the door..... ~Nice folks, cold beer, good party, crappy ending. |
LOL...

That's funny... I read that wrong the first time I read it! How about a red pool table with a red vinyl cover with the Chiefs Arrowhead on it? Glad you had a good time... ____________ still giggling... |
I know you guys have heard this from me over and over, but nobody seems to want to address it. At what point do you start pointing fingers at the guy who is RESPONSIBLE for signing these awful kickers? The Jon Bakers, Linn Elliots, and Todd Petersons just dont show up and say "I am ready to kick for you". Somebody has to do the scouting, make the call, watch the tryout, and negotiate the contract.
Kicker is a position that has been taken to lightly here in KC. Look around the league. Teams that get new kickers every other year are teams that lose games because of kickers. Carl, do your homework, draft a kicker, and stick with him. Most games in the NFL are decided by three points or less. You should know that by now! |
Wow, I agree with Packfan!
I gotta go puke now... :D |
Admit it Dartgod, you agree with me most of the time!
|
Gosh Iowanian, I'm blushing.
Thanks for the kind words. Your welcome anytime. I actually had people showing up at 6:00 wanting to watch the night game. I tried my best to be a good host, but after getting my guts ripped out, combinded with the ? gallons of beer I consumed, I wasn't really in the mood anymore. Fear not, I'll be ready to do it all over again Sunday. |
I do? I guess you would know...you're the football guru here.
|
Packfan,
You've got a point. Still, Carl has been going after proven kickers and it just hasn't worked out. Since Nick Lowery left, we really haven't had a decent kicker. Lin Elliot had success in Dallas. Pete Stoyanovich had a lot of success in Miami. Todd Peterson had success in Seattle. I'm hoping he can find that success again. Of course, I don't want to go into the kickers they brought here in 1999. That was a big freakin' joke. Just remember everyone that Peterson had a kinda lousy game in the first preseason game and then was very good through the last 3. Hopefully, he'll get it going. |
shakes,
they were all deserved. You've got a kickass setup going on over there. I just wished they'd have pulled it out....took the wind from everyone's sail it seemed. I hung in for the BBQ but had had more than my share of beer by 9.....It made for an interesting? drive home at 5am this morning. Thanks again for having me...if it works out...i'd do it again. |
Bad news is, as of Sat, 4pm eastern, his salary is guaranteed for the year. We are 100K under the cap, so how the hell do we do anything positive, and Pack you are right on the CP bashing this time, he personally said last year, he had wantend Todd all along, so this guy is not paid the minimum for a vet, but if there is any light at the end of the tunnel, he is a FA at the end of the year.
|
jl80,
I agree with about Nedney. I was also wondering why we didn't go after him. Who said Tynes would like his job back? You must be mad. you think Peterson was bad? Tynes wouldn't be making any FGs. It's one thing to kick a 50 or 60 yarder in practice and another when the pressure's on and your team needs you to make a kick. |
The signs are there. He needs to go. We have seen this before.
|
I heard Buffalo was looking for a Veteran Kicker....They had a Rook FA hit 2/2 sunday....maybe they can work a trade ;)
~saw a homeless guy kickin' a can on the way to work....coulda been good from 40. (lieing, but not done with the Pederson jokes yet) |
Todd Peterson's got to go, I've been saying that all along. I had wanted so much to see Tynes prove to be for real, but that didn't materialize. I'd like to see Jarrett Holmes come in for a workout or that kicker from Wisconsin who the Bears cut, but had a great camp.
Still, that being said, we were damn lucky to lose by just 3 points. Oakland's D shut us down, as well as the Chiefs O still in preseason mode (very confusing, very unimpressive, but still one game regardless). Chiefs D played very well for almost 3 quarters, but they ran out of steam from playing so long. You can't expect to win playing D fr 38 out of 60 minutes. You know, remember this. Peterson makes that 37 yard FG, Chiefs lead 27-24, Raiders ball at the Chiefs 12, with 1:15 left. Do you think for one moment they would have been content with OT? No way. Chances are Gannon would have been able to find Brown or Rice, or would have created a chance on his own and the Raiders would have won 31-27. I still have faith in the Chiefs. They're going to be a very good team, quite possibly even a playoff team. However, they're not better than the Raiders right now. That's the simple, honest truth. Here's hoping that the Chiefs improve as the season goes on and we can reviisit Chiefs vs Raiders and who's better... |
Can his a$$. There has to be someone better out there.
|
Hmmm... Cloud or Gramatica... Cloud or Gramatica... Cloud or Gramatica... Damn what a tough choice!
|
A one-legged blind man could kick field goals better than Peterson.
Old Geezer tired of losing games because of bargain bin kickers. |
Hey wait a second!! Cloud or Kris Brown. :D
|
So who do you think is out there that will prove to be better? We did this last year too and see who we have? Two choices:
1) Keep Peterson and deal with it for the season and address the need next year. 2) Cut Peterson and resign Tynes. This way he can get a years experience along with the rest of the team. Next year when we should be looking to make a run for the Super Bowl, he will have the needed experience to hang tough. I suppose you could throw in a number three; hire some other loser out there and be in this same position next year when they show themselves to be barely servicable. |
The Boston Red Sox have the Bambino's curse and the Chiefs have Norwood's curse with FG kickers.
Any FG attempt since Lowery left is a guessing game with every digit of my toes and fingers crossed. But even Lowery gagged a majority of the time when the pressure was on. It all started with Jan's Wide Right in 1971 against the Fish..... |
