Rediscovering Jim Croce

Loved his music as a kid and was crushed when he died. I recall me talking to my best friend saying that the reports of pot being found on the plane could not be his :doh!: Now as a older guy who started a thread a while back about how hip I am having a I-Pod and all, I have started listening to his music again. Very cool :)

Operator...

Are there any "storyteller" type singer/songwriters today? I really enjoyed music from guys like Jim Croce, Cat Stevens and Harry Chapin. I haven't listened to Jim Croce in years, probably a good re-discovery to make.

John Mellencamp's new album has a heavy folk sound to it...

I was overcome with joy, as I was listening to some Croce the other day, my son a budding musician, walked by a said "Hey, Play I've Got A Name, Again". I was a little shocked he knew of it. He said he loves it, ( he's 16). And we listened to the whole Greatest Hits album,he then said thanks and took it to rip and put on his MP3 player. I was impressed. My favorite was always "Operator", I used to go to this bar in Louisville to see a Guitar and Singer act there on Fridays with Friends.I would always request "Operator", and they always obliged. After a while, when I would walk in they would stop mid song or starting a new set, would play it for me, almost as a theme song. Very Cool Music. R.I.P.

Love Croce and still listen to him from time to time. I did karaoke for the first time about 6 months ago and sang Operator. Got a rave review. I missed singing. Used to be a vocal music major and all...

He was an artist who sang his pain. I have to be in the right mood to listen to Croce, even though he has some great songs.

mississippichiefan 12-26-2008 12:24 AM

Jim Croce was my favorite singer , he died the year I graduated from high school in 1973 , have most of his songs on dvd . I was really sad to see him die so young too .
