Denver reaching out for Bob Stoops as HC Candidate

Search for Broncos head coach in full gear

Two interviews get set up; feelers are out across country

ENGLEWOOD — The Broncos have reached out to several candidates to become their new head coach, including University of Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, and will interview at least two candidates in the coming days.

New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is expected to meet with team officials Saturday, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers secondary coach Raheem Morris is expected to meet with team officials Monday. League rules permit coaches with teams that have a bye in the first round of the playoffs, like the Giants do, to interview for jobs until Sunday. The interviews usually are conducted in the area around the coach's home city.

After Sunday, assistant coaches with playoff teams can't interview until their team is knocked out, and those on staffs of teams that advance to the Super Bowl can be interviewed in the week immediately following the conference championship games.

The Broncos also have reached out, two league sources said Thursday, to a representative of Stoops, whose team will face Florida in the Bowl Championship Series national championship game next Thursday in Miami.
I doubt Stoops make the leap, but if he does, how do you think he would transition?

Sweet Daddy Hate 01-01-2009 08:43 PM

That would be SO AWESOME! To get the chance to both hate Stoops AND watch him FAIL?

Poorly. Pretty much the same as just about every other college coach who made the transition not named Jimmy Johnson.

I don't think he'd be worth a shit as an nfl head coach.

he'd give that drawl that he has and brandon marshall would slap him upside the head outside of the IHOP.

chiefs1111 01-01-2009 08:53 PM

If he came to the NFL it would be another College coach to fail in the NFL

I can't see him leaving OU.

I really can't either. SUPPOSEDLY he's a chiefs fan--I'm sure some here would do anything for him to replace herm, but I really don't want that. he needs to go to denver, fail, and go back to some big 10 program and stay the **** away from the big 12

Fritz88 01-01-2009 09:11 PM

The dude was able to take OU into great sucsess, there's a good chance he may do the same with Denver...he has .8 winning record with OU. That is nuts.

What's the deal with all the hating on Bob Stoops? Are you guys just jaded MU fans tired of getting your azzes kicked? Or is there some other reason? Honestly, as Sooner fan I'd like to know if there is something I am missing due to my fandom.

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-01-2009 09:18 PM

Please, ****, let this happen. It will weaken Oklahoma and Denver in one swoop.

He has only lost two games in Norman since he's been there. Yet he got on TV and bitched the fans weren't loud enough to make the opposition go to a silent count.

I can't wait to see a melt down of epic proportions at the Mange if Bolen hires Raheem Morris. ROFL Stoops would make the mistake of his life if he were to jump to Denver. He's got it made at Oklahoma. Why screw up a sweet gig by taking a lateral step with less job security?
It would be insanity. And hopefully his wife would stop him. :D

Exactly, it's as stupid as the inevitable Pete Carroll to the NFL rumors that are surely coming at some point.

Just FTR, I wouldn't be against him doing it for the very same reasons that are outlined in this thread.

It would be, except that I would literally cry if Detroit grabbed him. KC deserves a QB of his calibur for ONCE in our miserable lifetimes.

Just ONCE, Goddamnit; that's all I ask!

The thing I think most people don't get about Mark, is that this was NOT an exceptional outing for him; it was business as usual.

Stoops would have a better chance than many other coaches do to what he runs in college. He already runs a pro-set and thats what Jimmy Johnson ran when he was coaching college before he made the jump.

Don't let Clark's "silence" fool you, I believe without a doubt that he is smarter and better than these other clowns.

And as opposed to the other franchises working on making a "great deal", he'll drop a Nuclear Warhead rather than a pant-load when all is said and done.

Clark is treating this like the oil business. Take your time and be very very careful where you drill. That oil isn't going anyplace while you procrastinate. Not so with coaches in the NFL. Remember, the money Clark is spending today was earned in the 1930's by his grandfather, H.L. Hunt.

Damn, I sure hope so! It was reported on NFL network yesterday or the day before I can't remember that rumor had it that Marty would be GM, Cam Camereon as coach and some DB coach "Ray" something would be the DC.

Of course today, the ticker on ESPN said today that Marty was just brought in to consult with Clark and it is "highly unlikely" he will be back with the team. Which leads me to believe that there 'IS' a strong chance he 'WILL' be back in some form or another.

Don't listen to a thing ESPN has to say unless they're covering a press conference after the ink has dried.
I had initially believed that Marty would be a VP, but then I speculated that his "talks" with Clark would be a one-time consultant gig in the quest for a GM.
I was sort-of right; it was just a call on Clark's part for advice, and nothing more.

I really hope Denver doesn't decide to grab a college coach, it just doesn't work out. I hope we get a defensive minded coach from the Giants, Ravens, or Titans... And hope they don't mess with the offense and just keep Bates, Dennison, and Turner where they are. Hopefully Shanny doesn't take them with him whenever he decides to take another job.

I really hate having to talk about Shanahan's replacement.

One thing I've noticed about KK is that while he's good at identifying problems, he sucks at coming up with good solutions.

And ****ing Petro-Douche and the Douche Crew; I swear all those clowns do is log on to Chiefs Planet, take notes, and then start the show.
