If you would have told me this 15 years ago...
15 years ago I was a 17 year old kid that lived and died with the Chiefs. I remember watching the Chiefs and Bills in the AFC Championship game and after the Chiefs lost I thought to myself, "Next year will be the year."
If you would have told me the following things that day, I would have compared you to a Chimpanzee with Down syndrome: 1. The Arizona Cardinals will make a championship game before KC does. 2. You will see two more presidents elected before KC wins another playoff game. 3. The following (bad at the time) teams will win a Superbowl before KC ever even makes one. • Indianapolis • Baltimore • St. Louis • New England • Tampa Bay Adding - New Orleans FFS 4. I would get married, have a child and buy a house before the Chiefs win a playoff game. Who knows what else is going to happen before we see a playoff win, never mind Superbowl! It’s things like this that I have reflected on recently and they make me wonder why the hell I waste time and money watching and rooting for this team. For the love of god, I actually went to my first Chiefs game on my Honeymoon in 1999. (Chiefs beat the Lions) The sad thing is I blame my father. He turned me into a Chiefs fan. Why couldn’t’ he have been a fan of a big market team? I could be posting on Steelers Planet or Giants Planet about how great the team is, instead here we are all excited about the possibility of a new GM coming in and salvaging this team. Oh well, I know one thing, I plan on putting my son through the same thing. I just hope and pray that I will see the Kansas City Chiefs play in a Superbowl once in my life. Go Chiefs. (Sorry if repost) |
i've grown hair on my ass and lost hair on my head since the chiefs won the super bowl.

Damn Gonzo. You just depressed the hell out of me. :(
|
-The expansion Carolina Panthers reached a Super Bowl before Peterson's Chiefs.

There's always next year.

http://hunternuttall.com/blog/wp-con...nny-carson.jpg What are the Chargers fans going to get to go through for the next 15 years? |
They life of a Chiefs fan....
Hard to believe we are one of the worse franchises in the NFL... Since 1989, all we have ever been is Regular Season Warriors.... |

In 2006 when we lost in the playoffs, I whined and bitched and complained like there was no tomorrow. Chiefs fans told me to keep a stiff upper lip and that my skin would get thicker. I didn't believe them. In 2007 when we lost in the playoffs, I realized that we made it to the AFC Championship game, so while Sad that we lost, It didn't hurt that bad knowing we'd be even stronger the next year. This year when we lost, I was like, "meh." I'm finally to the point where a playoff loss doesn't really hurt too bad. I know that all of you guys went through this in the 90s. Its kind of sad really, but until we get a real coach, I have very low expectations. Oh, and P.S. The Chargers waited until all the other Head Coaching jobs were filled in 2006 before firing Marty, and then they got the leftovers....Norv. You guys better hurry the hell up and hire a GM so you can get a coach. |
You aren't focusing that you have time available to watch the chiefs. Even though they suck focus on the fact you arent working, aren't doing something you hate, you are watching football, relax. That is 15 years doing something you like to do, if you don't like it you should find something else.
|
I don't even know who I want as a coach any more. I am getting tired of staying glued to the Web hoping for the perfect GM.

Still, I bleed Red and Gold... Love this team. Always will. |

They are all gone now, and no Superbowl yet. |
It has definitely been hard to be a Chiefs fan, but fans of few other organizations will be able to feel what we feel if we do ever win it all.
|
This is probably one of the most depressing threads in the history of CP, at least since I've been here.
I'm not even a Chiefs fan, and I feel for you. I'm 22 years old and have had the luxury of seeing both the Chargers and Padres play in their Championship games, but never win. I just wish that would have happened when I was 22, and not 8 and 12, respectively. I hope thats not their only shot at ever winning it. I am an avid Lakers fan as well, but nothing compares to my undying love for the Chargers and Padres... |

He wanted to go to the game with me so bad, but his health wouldn't allow it. |
If we do ever win it all we should all fly to KC, and have a championship celebration, share some beer, and bask in the glory.
|
For now, it is wait and see time. Wait and see whether or not Clark is going to give me a shred of a reason to re up my Sunday Ticket subscription next year.
It really is sad, when you know the team is going to suck, and they don't dissapoint you. |

I know exactly what you mean in the threads above. I actually started playing fantasy football so I would have something else to distract me on Sundays. Watching the Chiefs lose always puts me in a bad mood. The wife says I act like a "big baby" after losses but that's just crazy talk.
|
You should have had the good sense to be born 30 years earlier. Like I did.
|
Letting go of all hope is freedom as a Chiefs fan.

Well, i am not as miserable of a fan as some people as i have seen my other sports teams win it all. Just in football it hasnt.

Sad thing is, the last time Kansas City won anything was when the Royals won the W.S. against the Cards.
I was 9 and barely remember it. |
2009 is a year of cutting back for my family. We're focusing on saving our money. I will not give up the Sunday Ticket. If I don't have access to Chiefs football I would be more depressed than our record. Believe it or not, my wife agrees.

Heh, I was going through all of my memorabilia, (sp?) and I have an ass load of old Athalon, SI and Lindys from like 1992-2000. Here's a couple of the SI's that I have:

I too have never gotten to see any of my teams win the Championship. Closest thing was watching the Kings lose to the Canadians in 5. But the Chiefs have always, and will always be my number one team. Do you guys know what the beauty is of being a Chiefs fan? We are here through thick and thin and will never claim to be a fan of another team. Unlike some warm weather teams. Just hang in there and realize the time is near.

pretty sad when there are only a few players I even like on the Cheaps-and three of them are out for the season.
Cheaps are the worst value entertainment wise in the city. |

I'm just as frustrated as anyone with the Chiefs Championship drought, but there are still 14 teams who've NEVER won a Superbowl. 10 of which, IIRC, who have never even been.
|
as cliche as it it you're team is only as good as your QB/GM/COACH. ****ing pick them all. 1990 I came in a Chiefs fan. I barely remember the playoff game we won with Montana. I can't imagine going another 20 years with no playoff win. I'd actually make it a goal to own a house, get married, pop some kids out before the Chiefs win a playoff game. Looks like I get to kick my feet up for awhile, but no rush into those things. :D
|
If you would have told me I would have 4 kids and one of them in high school before we won another playoff game I would have said you were nuts.

Ouch but so true . Yeah I have had my doubt about the Chiefs but who the hell would I root for. |

I just know that when we do win it all, then all of this BS we've had to deal with over the years will just make me cherish and enjoy it all that much more.
If we don't win it all at any point while I'm here, then I'm screwed... |
my daughter was born the same year the Chiefs last won a playoff game. She now has a job, a car, and graduates from High School in May.

I'll have to say that Cubs fans are THE fan base I feel sorry for the most. Since we get to look at them outside of their box would you have told them 20 years ago to get out or stick by them? Some have died never seeing a championship. What do we learn from this?
|
After experiencing seeing "my" baseball team go to 3 world championships in 7 years and win 2 championships I feel more hopeful that someday I will see "my" football team win a Super Bowl.
The time I thought we had the best team in the league we got skunked and embrassed. Both times we won it all I had no hope that we would do anything in the playoffs. Get to the playoffs and good things can happen. GB was the last team in the playoffs last year. You just never know. |

I see The Chiefs having an awesome season in 2012. They won't have lockout lag and will have all their star players back plus some pickups.
