If you would have told me this 15 years ago...

15 years ago I was a 17 year old kid that lived and died with the Chiefs. I remember watching the Chiefs and Bills in the AFC Championship game and after the Chiefs lost I thought to myself, "Next year will be the year."

If you would have told me the following things that day, I would have compared you to a Chimpanzee with Down syndrome:

1. The Arizona Cardinals will make a championship game before KC does.
2. You will see two more presidents elected before KC wins another playoff game.
3. The following (bad at the time) teams will win a Superbowl before KC ever even makes one.

• Indianapolis
• Baltimore
• St. Louis
• New England
• Tampa Bay

Adding - New Orleans FFS

4. I would get married, have a child and buy a house before the Chiefs win a playoff game.

Who knows what else is going to happen before we see a playoff win, never mind Superbowl!

It’s things like this that I have reflected on recently and they make me wonder why the hell I waste time and money watching and rooting for this team. For the love of god, I actually went to my first Chiefs game on my Honeymoon in 1999.
(Chiefs beat the Lions)

The sad thing is I blame my father. He turned me into a Chiefs fan. Why couldn’t’ he have been a fan of a big market team? I could be posting on Steelers Planet or Giants Planet about how great the team is, instead here we are all excited about the possibility of a new GM coming in and salvaging this team.

Oh well, I know one thing, I plan on putting my son through the same thing. I just hope and pray that I will see the Kansas City Chiefs play in a Superbowl once in my life.

Go Chiefs.

So did the Seahawks. Man, remember how bad Seattle used to be when they were in the AFC West. It seems like a lifetime ago.

True.

In 2006 when we lost in the playoffs, I whined and bitched and complained like there was no tomorrow.

Chiefs fans told me to keep a stiff upper lip and that my skin would get thicker. I didn't believe them.

In 2007 when we lost in the playoffs, I realized that we made it to the AFC Championship game, so while Sad that we lost, It didn't hurt that bad knowing we'd be even stronger the next year.

This year when we lost, I was like, "meh." I'm finally to the point where a playoff loss doesn't really hurt too bad. I know that all of you guys went through this in the 90s. Its kind of sad really, but until we get a real coach, I have very low expectations.

Oh, and P.S. The Chargers waited until all the other Head Coaching jobs were filled in 2006 before firing Marty, and then they got the leftovers....Norv.

You guys better hurry the hell up and hire a GM so you can get a coach.

Demonpenz 01-13-2009 10:55 AM

You aren't focusing that you have time available to watch the chiefs. Even though they suck focus on the fact you arent working, aren't doing something you hate, you are watching football, relax. That is 15 years doing something you like to do, if you don't like it you should find something else.

ncCHIEFfan 01-13-2009 10:59 AM

I don't even know who I want as a coach any more. I am getting tired of staying glued to the Web hoping for the perfect GM.

Not for my 3 cousins, who were all at the Christmas viewing of the triple o.t. loss to the Dolphins. The game that made me a Chiefs fan when I was 5.

They are all gone now, and no Superbowl yet.

beach tribe 01-13-2009 11:41 AM

It has definitely been hard to be a Chiefs fan, but fans of few other organizations will be able to feel what we feel if we do ever win it all.

Buck 01-13-2009 11:41 AM

This is probably one of the most depressing threads in the history of CP, at least since I've been here.

I'm not even a Chiefs fan, and I feel for you.

I'm 22 years old and have had the luxury of seeing both the Chargers and Padres play in their Championship games, but never win.

I just wish that would have happened when I was 22, and not 8 and 12, respectively.

I hope thats not their only shot at ever winning it.

I am an avid Lakers fan as well, but nothing compares to my undying love for the Chargers and Padres...

I will start crying like a baby, because my Cousin, whom I got to visit when I was back their, gave me a couple of KC patches as a gift.

He wanted to go to the game with me so bad, but his health wouldn't allow it.

beach tribe 01-13-2009 11:45 AM

If we do ever win it all we should all fly to KC, and have a championship celebration, share some beer, and bask in the glory.

Calcountry 01-13-2009 11:46 AM

For now, it is wait and see time. Wait and see whether or not Clark is going to give me a shred of a reason to re up my Sunday Ticket subscription next year.

It really is sad, when you know the team is going to suck, and they don't dissapoint you.

I too have never gotten to see any of my teams win the Championship. Closest thing was watching the Kings lose to the Canadians in 5. But the Chiefs have always, and will always be my number one team. Do you guys know what the beauty is of being a Chiefs fan? We are here through thick and thin and will never claim to be a fan of another team. Unlike some warm weather teams. Just hang in there and realize the time is near.

What's ironic is that KC has a winning record against every team in the division in the regular season(including Seattle), yet they are the only ones that haven't made the Super Bowl in the last 40+ years.

I'm just as frustrated as anyone with the Chiefs Championship drought, but there are still 14 teams who've NEVER won a Superbowl. 10 of which, IIRC, who have never even been.

Johnny Vegas 11-22-2011 05:31 PM

as cliche as it it you're team is only as good as your QB/GM/COACH. ****ing pick them all. 1990 I came in a Chiefs fan. I barely remember the playoff game we won with Montana. I can't imagine going another 20 years with no playoff win. I'd actually make it a goal to own a house, get married, pop some kids out before the Chiefs win a playoff game. Looks like I get to kick my feet up for awhile, but no rush into those things. :D

Thank yourself that she didn't see the Christmas Day game vs. Miami. My Dad made me soap-wash my mouth, when I recounted a joke from some grade school kids: "Stenerud tried to commit suicide, but he kicked the chair, and missed!"

I wonder how much soap was a orally applied, in 96. Probably, not much.

I'll have to say that Cubs fans are THE fan base I feel sorry for the most. Since we get to look at them outside of their box would you have told them 20 years ago to get out or stick by them? Some have died never seeing a championship. What do we learn from this?

BigRedChief 11-22-2011 06:10 PM

After experiencing seeing "my" baseball team go to 3 world championships in 7 years and win 2 championships I feel more hopeful that someday I will see "my" football team win a Super Bowl.

The time I thought we had the best team in the league we got skunked and embrassed. Both times we won it all I had no hope that we would do anything in the playoffs. Get to the playoffs and good things can happen. GB was the last team in the playoffs last year. You just never know.
