And Jack Harry. And WPI.

I feel like a stranger in a strange land.

OnTheWarpath15 01-23-2009 04:35 PM

Bill Williamson on ESPN News:

Brilliant move by Hunt and Pioli.

Talked to someone on Wednesday that spoke with Shanahan, who had said that he wanted the "best position in the AFC West." Thought that was odd since KC was the only job that might become open.

Seems to think that SP and MS will make a good team.

Take a QB with #3 pick...

ziggysocki 01-23-2009 04:35 PM

Just saw it on the ticker

Molitoth 01-23-2009 04:35 PM

I wonder what Horseface is thinking right now...
and Cutler...

BigChiefFan 01-23-2009 04:36 PM

I think it's a damn good move.

Yeah, he REALLY put his ass out there yesterday.

Like I said then, he'll probably claim it all came down AFTER he talked to the Rat.

The Rick 01-23-2009 04:36 PM

Awesome! Love this move! I especially love it because my wife is a Broncos fan!

oldandslow 01-23-2009 04:36 PM

Absolutely great choice...

Sure-Oz 01-23-2009 04:36 PM

Props to Jack ****ing Harry really...

and OTWP thanks for stealing my thunder on the post!! :P I was just too slow

Brock 01-23-2009 04:36 PM

Silock 01-23-2009 04:37 PM

ARE WE IN BIZZARO WORLD?!?!?!?!

FloridaMan88 01-23-2009 04:37 PM

An aggressive offense? Check

Someone who can develop QBs? Check

Someone who knows the AFC West? Check

Get over the Denver hatred, Mike Shanahan is a home run choice.

In the span of one month we've gone from Dictator Carl/Herm to Pioli/Mike Shanahan... that is like going from Janet Reno to Jessica Simpson

DaWolf 01-23-2009 04:37 PM

If this happens, one thing is for sure, our odds of winning for the first time in Invesco just got a lot higher, and we're not going to stop beating the Faiders...

Hammock Parties 01-23-2009 04:37 PM

THIS IS SO ****ING AWESOME

EVERYONE GET SHANAHAN IN YOUR AVATAR

So did a lot of places. It wasn't exactly a stretch to assume that we were in contact with him.

Archie Bunker 01-23-2009 04:37 PM

This is so ****ing awesome

memyselfI 01-23-2009 04:38 PM

The only real beauty of this will be Shanarat tormenting Taco John.

siberian khatru 01-23-2009 04:38 PM

I really don't know how I feel about this. Lots of pros and cons.

I thought he needed to take a year off and recharge his batteries.

Maybe not having GM duties will be all the respite he needs.

HolmeZz 01-23-2009 04:38 PM

This is awesome.

warrior 01-23-2009 04:38 PM

It's the Shanarat

Herm being fired is official.

Shanahan is not yet. ESPN News saying that Chiefs and Shanny are "near a deal."

Jack Harry calling Schefter out on 810...

Jack says this has been going on for weeks.

doomy3 01-23-2009 04:41 PM

If you don't have your TV on ESPN News, I would turn it on. Sounds like this is going to be talked about in depth

FloridaMan88 01-23-2009 04:41 PM

The updated report on ESPN.com:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3855917

Edwards fired by Chiefs

KANSAS CITY -- Kansas City Chiefs coach Herm Edwards was fired Friday, a well-placed source told ESPN.

Edwards was 15-33 in three seasons with the Chiefs, including 2-14 this season.

The Chiefs have been in negotiations to land Mike Shanahan as their next coach and a deal is near, league sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Edwards' status has been in doubt since the Chiefs hired Scott Pioli as their general manager on Jan. 13. Asked at his introductory news conference about Edwards' status, Pioli declined to say.

He was 41-44 in five seasons as head coach of the New York Jets, including three trips to the playoffs.

Edwards came to Kansas City from the Jets and made the playoffs in his first season,w hen the team was 9-7. But he was under fire after the team finished 4-12 in 2007. Team management gave him its support, but expected a run at the playoffs. Instead, the team went 2-14, leaving Edwards' fate up in the air.

As much as it pains me to say this, he deserves to. Jack totally pwned Schef.

Unbelievable.

Mr. Laz 01-23-2009 04:41 PM

on a side note, a real benefit of hiring Shannarat is that he already has a working knowledge of our players from coaching against us.

when he was preparing for the game against us, who better to know which of our players suck and how they suck.

One of your best articles was about why Shanny would be a good fit in KC ... I wonder if LJ is going to be around ...

Jerm 01-23-2009 04:42 PM

First Schefter says we're not getting Pioli, then he tried to squash all the Shanny rumors.

Pioli and Clark have owned his ass.

Schefter friggin' sucks.

doomy3 01-23-2009 04:43 PM

If this goes down, it was worth the 3rd we gave up to get Herm in order to clean house and end up with Pioli and Shanahan

true that has been his weakness. But im excited to see that we will have an offense again.

we'll see about the defense? Only time will tell. hopefully Pioli can be an outstanding GM and help him in that aspect of the team. it'll be interesting thats for sure.
