Have the Chiefs filled the Rooney rule requirement?

Does the Rooney rule apply if you are keep it real and fire a brother for a more qualified canidate that is white? If not paging Romeo Crennel and Leslie Frazier get here quick we need a token black dude to interview. I think the Rooney rule is a joke anyway and there shouldn't be a rule deciding who you can hire to run your company.

DaFace 01-30-2009 10:32 PM

"We"? What, are you a Chiefs fan now too?

As for the question, Herm doesn't count. However, no one has any clue who we've interviewed, so we may already have fulfilled the requirement.

GOQUEER and WPI disagree. They have cutting edge news and rumors.

Moreso the latter, but yeah.

redsurfer11 01-30-2009 10:44 PM

I don't care what color he is. Just Coach.

MVChiefFan 01-30-2009 11:30 PM

Can we re-hash this topic about 37 more times please. So help me God if I see one more thread talking about the "Rooney Rule" I'm gonna puke.

Ebolapox 01-30-2009 11:32 PM

if this don't prove he's somebody's dupe, nothin' does.

Well, I can pretty much guarantee that AutumnWind = GROB, but I've never pinned him down to anyone else.

This! that didn't take long. However, best Autumwind post I have ever read on here, rep for the Raider fan, but welcome to last week. There are some very qualified black candidates that will hopefully have a shot.

DakmanKC brought up a very intersting one, on the Pittsburgh staff, in another thread.

In Pioli we trust! How is the Raider staff shaping up?

HemiEd 01-30-2009 11:47 PM

I really want someone from Pittsburgh, bad.

If the Chiefs could only learn how to reload like they do, we may have something with Pioli running the show.

blueballs 01-31-2009 01:16 AM

there has got to have been atleast a half dozen of these rooney rule threads this week
I don't get the interest

Chiefaholic 01-31-2009 03:29 AM

When Pioli was hired, it was reported that they interviewed multiple others for the GM position. None of which the media was made aware, even the ultimate of the inside skinny, WPI. My personal guess is that they've already covered all their bases and awaiting an opportunity to interview all their options, one of which is preparing for the Superbowl and likely their top canidate for the position. There's weren't any leaks outside of the NFL headquarters on who the GM canidates were, and I'de guess the head coaching position will be handled in a similiar manner.

They already interviewed Herm Edwards to see if he would coach the chiefs in 2009 - so they should be covered.

Anything that anyone says on this is just speculating. There are plenty of pundits that don't believe this will be a big deal, either way. The Chiefs aren't the organization that has never hired or interviewed minority candidates. It would be against the spirit of the rule, even if they did not interview a candidate for the opening this time. Would anyone throw a fit if they went from Edwards to Cowher without taking a serious look at Crennel?!? Seriously? Common sense surely must come into play, here.

Plus, the rule is NOT a law...so they don't have to do follow this at all. They will be fined, per their agreement to be a part of the NFL and its rules, but that's all. People need to stop worrying about this. I'm sure the Chiefs and the NFL have this covered.

Turns out none of us had a clue what the Rooney Rule was
it now appears to be the right to buy refs at the Super Bowl

Thats what I would think. Herm must have spent several days with Pioli. But who knows. The NFL has some of the screwiest rules.

The Steelers had to comply with the Rooney rule, and um... well, the rule was named for Mr. Rooney who pushed it through. So, yeah, the league would be upset if the Chiefs didn't attempt to interview a minority head coach.

Now, they would lose draft picks and get fined if they don't comply, not just get fined.

OctoberFart 02-06-2009 08:17 PM

So was the Rooney Requirement met or is hunt going to pay the fine and have Sharpton protesting out front of Narrowhead?

Hammock Parties 02-06-2009 08:19 PM

Yes, it was met. How about those Raiders?

Thanks for the inside info. What about the Raiders? They suck and have a dead beat coach but will be better than KC again.

The Raiders have a great history of failure, but this coming season may take the cake. When you publicly tell the Head Coach he will have no input into the staff...you know you have a spineless Head Coach.

Things have never been worse in Oakland. Gotta hope Al Davis lives for ever.
