Hypothetical trade scenario....

Do you think the Iggles would trade their #20 and 27 draft picks this year and next year's 1st round draft pick for our #3 and Larry Johnson?

This might be a win/win situation for both teams. The draft picks would probably come out to the same value approximately. We get rid of Larry Johnson while at the same time get a couple of much needed first round draft picks. The Iggles get their two most pressing needs as they make one more run for the Superbowl, a running back and (presumably) a star WR in Crabtree.

I can't imagine Larry Johnson carries any trade value at all now. They'd be trading 3 first round draft picks for a headcase and a top-5 salary to a rookie. Doesn't sound very Eagle-esque to me.

ChiefRon 02-06-2009 02:41 PM

No, they wouldn't and we wouldn't.

That is reeruned.
You are reeruned.

wouldn't that mean that LJ has first-round pick value? he clearly doesn't.

Pasta Little Brioni 02-06-2009 02:43 PM

WOW, this isn't Madden franchise mode.

We will be lucky to get a cheeseburger for LJ.

The #3 pick has a value of 2200 points.

The #20 pick has a value of 850
The #27 pick has a value of 680

Assuming the Iggles make it to the NFC Championship game, thier pick would be worth 620 points

2200 points vs 2150? And getting LJ? They are $25M under the cap, they can take his salary.

easymobee 02-06-2009 02:48 PM

RBs don't have that kind of trade value. The seahawks couldnt get a 2nd rounder for Shaun Alexander when he was coming off of an MVP season. The Colts couldn't get the same for Edgerrin James when he was still considered elite. Adrian Peterson is the only RB i could think of demanding a trade package loaded with multiple 1st rounders.

You are reading impaired, huh? Where does it say that he has first round value? Using the draft chart, it would say that he has a low 4th round value. (26th pick in the 4th round) Actually, we'd be giving them the value of a low 4th rounder to take him off our hands....

I think all future firsts have the same value, i.e. "undetermined first rounder"

you can't assume a team will go to the super bowl just to lower the value of next year's pick.

and they might have cap space for LJ's salary, but they don't have the patience for his bullshit. I doubt many do. He'll get cut and sign a minimal deal somewhere. If he were a baseball player, no one would give him more than a minor-league contract.

a team can trade a top 3 pick for 2 lower first rounders, or a first-rounder this year and one next year.

you said 3 first-rounders total.

You can throw the chart out.

This isn't the kind of move the eagles would make, history says. They get rid of players like LJ, they don't bring them in. They look for upside guys. Owens is the obvious exception to this, but LJ is not the kind of dominant player he was, and 30 isn't the same thing for a WR that is for a RB.

In any case, they needed to trade LJ 2 years ago. His value now is next to nothing. I wouldn't be entirely shocked to see him cut outright.

Why in the hell would we want to drop out of #3, is the big question.

easymobee 02-06-2009 02:56 PM

LJ and the #3 pick would equal about 100 million dollars plus for the Eagles to foot the bill for, not so sure they'd want LJ included in a deal even if they were interested in the 3rd pick. They'd probably prefer to have Casey Printers be the throw in.

I think it is safe to assume that the Iggles won't be picking in the upper half of the draft next year. In that case, worse case scenario, the Iggles lose out on 300 points of draft value...still the equivalent of a 3rd rounder....

Because there's no one we desparately need worth the 3rd position.

Bullshit. Draft isnt about need anyways, its why we are in the ****ing position we are now. I dont know why I spend time arguing with you, its like talking to a brick wall.

You don't need to respond. That said, we have desperate needs at QB, LB and DE. Curry is the only one from those positions I see as anything close to a top 3 choice. So why not try to see if we could trade down to about 8-12 and go after Sanchez?

Going after "need" in the first round is what keeps teams picking in the top 10 year after year.

"Next year's first" has the value of a second rounder, so the points don't even add up. Plus, by trading him, his bonuses are accelerated against our cap.

I disagree. The nature of every year and every team dictates the strategy. If you are a rebuilding team you try to fill holes. If you are a playoffs team you go BPA every damn draft. We do not yet have that luxury.

We need to rebuild the team, we need draft picks. So yeah, the Iggles get a little better deal, but not that much. Like I said, whether we trade him or we cut him, Larry's bonuses are going to be accelerated against our cap. He isn't going to be a Chief next year, period--his bonuses are going to be accelerated one way or another.

Filling holes is for free agency and pornos.

The draft is about BPA, especially in the high first-round.

Drafted players don't hit their peak until 3-7 years in the future, and who knows what the team will look like by then.

We didn't NEED any offensive lineman in 2004, but if we would've draft Chris Snee instead of Junior Siiavi, we'd be better off today, wouldn't we?

ChiefsCountry 02-06-2009 03:19 PM

First of all this trade wouldn't go down bc Philadelphia wouldn't do it. They dont draft WR's in the first round and the only one was Freddie Mitchell. They totally devalue the position. Eagles draft OL and DL with most of their first round picks. For RB, why would they want LJ when they can get McCoy or Wells with their first round pick? They can get a younger RB and max him and salary out better than they can with LJ.

this is a good deal for the Eagles? :spock:

they get 1 unproven player who will cost them an arm and a leg, and a washed-up, broke-down locker room cancer. we get 3 first-round picks.

I dare you to take a poll at an Eagles board and see who they think gets the better deal

Hog's Gone Fishin 02-06-2009 03:25 PM

How about we just trade LJ to the Bengals for tere first round pick in 2009,2010,2011,2012,2013,2014,2015,2016,2017,2018.

Bengals wouldn't go for that but Detroit might.

DeepPurple 02-06-2009 03:52 PM

Look at it from the other way. Since the Chiefs need defense, would you trade the Chiefs number #20 and 27 draft picks this year and next year's 1st round draft pick for the Ravens #26 and Terrell Suggs? (6'3", 260 pounds, 26 years old, in his 6 seasons Suggs has 5 INTs (2 for TDs), 15 forced fumbles, 10 fumble recoveries, 263 tackles, and 53 sacks.) Plus, Suggs is not a head case and gives 100% and is almost impossible to keep out of the lineup for injury.

As a Ravens fan, I don't think I would even take all those picks for Suggs, he's too valuable. The Eagles would love to have Johnson, just like alot of other teams, but you're going to have to lower your expectations.
