Alabama OT Smith admits he's out of shape

Alabama OT Andre Smith announced Friday that he will not work out at all at this weekend's Combine. Still out of shape, Smith admitted that he just began to start working out. It's an amazing admission, and one that calls into question his work ethic and judgement. This could cost Smith money, and he has less than a month to get ready for his March 11 Pro Day. 2/2 on my Combine sliders.

Ahaha, well one of his questions is his work ethic so why is this surprising to anyone?

Andre Smith reminds me alot of Leonard Davis so I'd be extremely leery of picking him.
|
I thought he weighed in at 323 which was being in shape for him. If he admitted he hasn't been working out he'll fall out of the top 10.
|
He weighed 332...
|
Even 332 isn't bad for him when there were rumors he was playing around 350+ during the season. But being suspended and admitting he just started working out will cause him to slide.

I guess the kid didn’t even show up.
http://www.rotoworld.com/Content/pla...139675&id=5099 Outland trophy winner Alabama T Andre Smith was missing at the NFL Scouting Combine Saturday morning. There are conflicting reports from Smith and his agent about where he was, and why he didn't show on Saturday. He has recently been located. Either way, this is the story dominating talk in Indy after Smith also admitted that he was out of shape Friday. Smith has a stellar on-field resume, but the Combine couldn't be going worse. This will hurt his chances of being a top-two tackle in the draft. |
i can't tell you how bad this is for him ........ it makes him like a lazy, childish POS
|
he just pissed away millions of dollars...
his agent is either incompetent or getting ready to fire his client... |
If he would slip to the second, he would still be pretty tempting.

This guy is an absolute moron. Just cost himself millions of dollars. Or maybe he's brilliant and doesn't want to play for the Lions/Rams.
|
Detroit could get lucky and get a QB#1 and then Smith at 20 should he fall that far.

Has Davis played up to potential? No. But possibly a player like Smith just needs the right coach to draw it out of him. Maybe he's like most Texas players and so babied he just needs a good ass whippin'. |

He made the Pro Bowl as a guard for the Boys, but that's disappointing given he was the #2 overall pick for the Cards at LT. |

Some people have expressed that Smith's NFL position could be OG in the long run. |

Which is why I pointed out specifically that he has not lived up to his potential. My point is that his overall potential, as you mentioned was much greater as a LT, or so it was perceived to have been. Also, as you pointed out, as a #2 overall pick he was a bust. No matter which way you slice it, he hasn't lived up to the original hype. A change in scenery for him and also a change of position helped him out. |

I'm not sure where his footwork is or how fluidly he moves. From what I've heard he's was athletic at 'Bama. Davis never really had good feet, in my opinion. And so, he did transition well to a guard spot. I wonder if smith could do the same. If he falters on his pro day or people begin to question his desire, as has already been the case, I wonder do any teams start to think of him as a guard. If they do, how far down does that drop him? I forget his name, but that kid out of Baylor is really getting a lot of hype for his good pass blocking and so is Monroe. If those guys are right behind Smith and Smith begins to fall down some boards as a LT, I wonder how far he might fall? |
