NE vs. Jets Nov.'08 on NOW

Just a FYI, Cassel and the Pats are on the NFL network now playing Favre and the Jets from November last season.

Pioli Zombie 03-01-2009 01:52 PM

Yeah. Focus on the second half especially and look at his so called suspect arm strength

The kid is good.

Cassel game against the jets on now

for those of you that have NFL network, i believe he threw for 400 yards this game

BradyFTW! 03-01-2009 02:00 PM

Yeah, man, it's a shame our defense couldn't hold them on 3rd and long in OT- if the D just could have done its job, Cassel would be a hero. That throw that he made to Moss at the end for the TD was unbelievable.

Brock 03-01-2009 02:02 PM

That throw to Moss at the edge of the end zone was a thing of beauty.

Buck 03-01-2009 02:09 PM

I'm not sure who was talking shit about Cassel specifically, but 3 days ago the consensus on the board was that he wasn't that good.

Now it seems like everyone is happy.

I think its a good move.

Cassel > Thigpen + Croyle + Sanchez + Stafford combined.

Buck 03-01-2009 02:13 PM

If I remember correctly, Cassel leads a pretty good drive at the end of the first half and has a pretty good 2nd half, and even leads the Pats to a 4th quarter lead before Favre comes back and leads the Jets to a win.

Yeah, if our D had been even passable in the second half, Cassel would have been a hero.

Perfect Pass to Gaffney...who is now a Donk

RINGLEADER 03-01-2009 02:19 PM

Wish we would have signed Gaffney to fill the Gaffney role in our new offense...

Bowe = Gaffney (in the offense, if it's run essentially the same)

That doesn't seem right. Isn't Gaffney the slot or is he the wideout with Wes moving into the slot on three wide sets?

Mr. Flopnuts 03-01-2009 02:40 PM

Cassel looks good. I'm really starting to come around on this and get behind it. I can't help it. It's part of my eternally optimistic nature.

Mr. Flopnuts 03-01-2009 02:41 PM

NFLN just went down for me. Anyone else?

Mile High Mania 03-01-2009 02:49 PM

You'd think that they might have made a hard push for Gaffney, knowing they were going for Cassel. Then again, maybe that's why Denver jumped all over him so quickly, to keep him from visiting KC. Dunno.

Gaffney is the #2 outside receiver in the 3 receiver set, although he will also line up in the slot on occasion. Think of it this way...

Moss is the medium/deep outside WR
Welker is the short/medium receiver over the middle
Gaffney is the short/medium outside wr
Watson is the medium/long receiver over the middle

That's the basic tree, with the rb capable of slipping out of the backfield, although it's obviously not going to apply 100% of the time. Gaffney would still go deep on occasion, Moss would catch short passes, etc.... but it's the basic framework.

The Pats primarily ran 3WR sets with Welker in the slot.

How much extra does that option cost? I'd like a nice BJ while watching football too...

bowener 03-01-2009 06:43 PM

How does everyone see our O playing out?

Constant 3 WR sets? Use Tony G in the slot more often, or keep him in like the Cards did with theirs? I would love it if our passing game was dangerous enough that all the attention had to be paid to the WR's, leaving Tony G to rape and pillage the middle of the field all game long.

Pioli Zombie 03-02-2009 10:06 AM

Isn't Lavernius Coles available? I wouldn't mind seeing him come to KC

I would think more of a speed type guy like D. Henderson, but his hands are a little suspect from what I've seen.
younger than Coles tho.
