Lump under my armpit

Okay. For the past three or four months, whenever I shave, I've noticed that I have this lump underneath my right armpit that's about the size of a pea. I never paid it much attention, because it never hurt or anything. This evening, I noticed that it feels a bit bigger, and it's slightly sore to the touch. I decided to look it up on Google. I'm not liking what I'm reading. It's could be anything from bacterial to cancerous. Needless to say, I'm going to be making a doctor's appointment in the near future to get it checked out. I'm just a little freaked, I guess. Cancer has been really prevalent on my dad's side of the family.

EDIT: Doctor's appointment Thursday morning.

Bowser 03-01-2009 08:11 PM

WTF have you waited 3 or 4 months to check it? Get it checked sooner rather than later. Could be as insignificant as a little mole, but it's better to know for sure. Don't wait around.

Probably a swollen lymph node. I'd see the doctor. Then again it may be nothing.

Hammock Parties 03-01-2009 08:12 PM

It's probably just a zit or something. I get those all the time. Pop the sonofabitch.

It's not a zit. Nothing showing outside of my skin.

Mr. Flopnuts 03-01-2009 08:13 PM

I'd almost guarantee it's bacterial. Sensitive area, combined with shaving it makes that the likely choice. It couldn't hurt to get it checked, and you should err on the side of caution but I wouldn't freak out or anything.

bowener 03-01-2009 08:14 PM

When I was a young teenager I got 3 or 4 of those. Started small, later turned red and sore, so I just bore down on those ****ers. Man, a sight to see. Was one of the best pimple geysers you could ever see. Amazing what shit comes out of our bodies.

Not saying it is the same as I had 10 years ago, but nothing showed outside the skin then, either. just a huge lump under the skin that hurt like hell, so I got pissed and smashed the ****er.

Sure-Oz 03-01-2009 08:14 PM

I suggest you go see your doctor/capn obvious

If its bacterial atleast you can get medication to get rid of it

I've been reading that whenever i do a breast exam, I should also check my armpits. I had never heard that before. But yeah, I'm definitely getting it checked out.

kcfanintitanhell 03-01-2009 08:17 PM

Probably it is nothing more than a sebaceous cyst, or a clogged sweat gland. By all means, get it checked out, though. Most of the time the lumps that are cause for concern (ie:lymph nodes) are not painful to the touch. And usually a bit larger. JMO

This has never hurt before today, and it's just a little sore to the touch.

Could be anything ... probably nothing.

However, you need to have it checked out immediately. The beautiful and witty Mrs. FAX discovered she had thyroid cancer when a lymph node presented similarly, Ms. luv. Go to a doctor.

It is probably nothing but is nothing to fool with. If it is a lymph node it is swelling up for a reason.

I use an antiperspirant. It could end up being as simple as needing to switch to simple deodorant.

Painfully. If you can squeeze goo out of it at all, it's a hair. :(

Definitely squeeze it, if that doesn't work impale it with a straight pin.

Ingrown hair? Third tittah? Acne?

I'm not going to say this again, Ms. luv, but our nightmare began with an innocent, little lump that turned out to be a lymph node which is where thyroid cancer lodges once it gets into the lymphatic system.

Again, this is probably nothing. The odds are in your favor. I am not attempting to frighten or worry you. Nevertheless, go to a doctor. Go to a doctor now. Do not pass go. Do not collect 200 dollars in casino cash. Let him tell you it's nothing.

Okay. I went in, and it's a lot bigger than it was. I decided to squeeze it, and was able to get a little something out. I'm thinking ingrown hair now, as well. Glad I posted something though. I never would have squeezed it otherwise, and wasted money on a doctor's visit. I'll see if it goes down a little now.

THanks all.

It was about the size of a marble. I finally got it removed...

Now I tell people the scar's from a knife fight.

I had a pea sized lump and they thought it was enough to go in and take it out! Came back OK, but look Luv, be real and stop playing here!!!

Discuss Thrower 03-01-2009 09:04 PM

I had an epic zit pop a few days ago. A little bit of a whitehead came out of a similarly described lump just above my right nipple. When I noticed it still felt full, I kept squeezing. Two chunks came out yellow, pressed further then a jet of white and red smacked the shower. It felt liberating.

The "best" zit I had was in 6/7th grade. Huge think on the right side tip of my nose. Annoyed my dad so much he got ahold of me in our foyer and pressed on it for about a minute or so until a huge mass arced skyward then plopped on the floor. Left a scar.

I didn't come here for advice. I said in the OP that I am making a doctor's appointment. However, I do feel a little less freaked out, so I'm glad I did post it. I thought about waiting once I figured it's an ingrown hair, but I'm still going to have it checked out.

When I say it's gotten bigger, I mean it's gone from the size of a pea to the size of a grape. Just how big can ingrown hairs make a lump get. I don't know. It just doesn't feel right. I'm calling at 8am to see when I can get in. Just switche insurance, so now I have to switch doctor's.

I had something similar to that 6 months ago and eventually it grew to half the size of a golf ball and it was really sore...I scheduled a doctors appointment for the next day, and then that night it popped. He said it was boil caused by an infected hair follicle.

Might want to get it checked out just in case. He gave me some antibiotics for a staph infection.

Maybe you'll be fortunate enough to get a giant boil at some point. I've only had one really horrible one, but it was the size of a ****ing orange, right next to my junk. Extremely painful. Could barely walk, missed nearly a week of work. Basically the only think you can do is keep heat on it and let it run its course. When it finally popped, enough pus came out to fill two or three shot glasses. Smelled like really stinky feet. Gross, but the instant absence of pain and pressure was wonderful.

You'd love it.

Started as a zit. I tried to pop it before it was ready and it got infected - then it just ballooned. That was 10 years ago, never had another one; of course, now when I think I might I take steps to deal with it correctly (application of heat, limit movement) right away.

Honestly, I don't know. I hopped on one leg into the shower when I felt it start to go, so that I wouldn't make a mess all over the house. I was so grossed out by the smell (made worse, I'm sure by the steam from the shower water) that I wasn't going to look at it. I could feel it running down my leg though. Ugh.
