Ray Lewis
We got a tip on Saturday about KC and Ray Lewis and per my spies this morning the Chiefs are attempting to talk to former Baltimore Ravens Linebacker Ray Lewis about his interest in coming to Kansas City.
Per my spies they think they have a shot to land him since no other team (at the moment) is in pursuit of the 13-year veteran. However, I think he really wants to play for the Ravens and if he came to KC it would have to be for the right price. We've heard that Baltimore has an a three year deal worth $24 million on the table that has guarantees in the $17 million range. Now he'd make sense for the Chiefs to add him along with Vrabel, DJ and likely Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry with the third overall pick, they can find out if DJ is the answer long term and it gives Curry time to develop plus KC gets two years out of Vrabel and Lewis to change the mindset of this defense. But he'd be the kind of player that would impact this defense and if Romeo Crennel comes to KC as the teams DC, which we expect to happen barring a change of heart, this path makes sense to me. |
He's so old... How reliable are your sources?
|
|
Bring in Ray Lewis, Shaun Rogers, and draft Aaron Curry and this defense will go from worst to pretty damn good.
Realistically, we could do it too |
Sure what the hell we can make the playoffs quick again lets go for it.
|
hummm... I would luv for him to show up if he can still bring the attitude and emotion but would he still have the heart after leaving Ravens?
|
he does have some buddies in levenworth
|
Jesus ****ing Christ.
|
Does he fit the Pioli profile? Perhaps. In the Rodney Harrison mold... But, remember he is a murderer.

This is from WPI

I'm still firmly in the "In Pioli We Trust" mode, so if GMSP thinks Lewis is worth signing, I'm all for it. A LB corps of Lewis, Vrabel, D. Johnson & possibly Curry would be solid at least for a few years until we can develop some younger players to take over.
On the other hand, if we don't sign him, I think I'd be a little happier. Guy that old with his past....eeeehhh... |

ROFL are you sure? |
I don't think he's going to get that kind of money from anyone but Baltimore.

Not crazy about adding another LB with a short shelflife.
|
with his age he would likely be OLB in the 3-4

Good grief, he probably wouldn't even take our call.

Shaun Rogers will play for Cleveland and Ray Lewis will not play for Kansas City. Also, those three players will not make the defense pretty damn good. |

The only reason he would talk to the Chiefs right now is leverage to push the Ravens to pay more, because no one else is sniffing around the guy...

I have to agree to disagree with you. |
Spies? Like 007?
|
I was all for this until we picked up Vrabel. I was not overly excited about adding a rookie or 2 to DJ and DW and hoping one of the rookies could become a leader. I would however have been thrilled to have stolen Brian Dawkins away from the Broncos for the right price.
|
If we sign Lewis it pretty much guarantees we aren't taking Curry. That's something at least.
Not that I believe he is coming here. |

Yikes. Spending that kind of money on an over-the-hill LB would be crazy stupid...

Why do I sort of miss the days of King Carl when we knew about everything? We know NOTHING now. We used to know who was coming in for a visit, when they were coming, when they're plane landed, where they went for dinner and how interested they were in coming to KC. Who the hell knows now. We could have Ray-Ray and T.J. sitting in Arrowhead right now and we wouldn't know it. Or, maybe we've contacted no one. I kind of miss the old "Carl leaking everything out his ass" days.

Maybe Pioli is trying to establish a winning attitude in the mean time while he's carving up the roster and getting "his" players. Win now. Win big later.

I'm fine with bringing in FA's to fill holes, you cant fix everything in 1-2 drafts alone.
It's necessary to do it when your team is in a transition like this, especially on defense where we're evidently changing our philosophy from a 4-3 to 3-4, and LB was our biggest need on defense. We have virtually nobody outside of DJ. FA is ok when you can draft well also. That was the reason why this team fell off the earth so fast after DV and Carl. We drafted like crap and didn't have anyone to replace the vets that left, or those that did replace, never had a decent amount of PT since DV was all for playing the vets over rookies. If you can get some good FA and draft well along with playing the rookies in order to get them up to speed, then I see nothing wrong with trying to expensive FA's here and there. But WE HAVE TO DRAFT WELL. |

Agree with your whole post. Plus, look at the FA's we brought in. Vrabel is a LEADER. A leader on a defense that lost its veteran players. Our defense needs a leader and Vrabel will help transition until a younger player starts to take that roll. Cassel allows us to draft best player available without worrying so much about reaching for a future QB. Great additions and this draft will be critical to our future success. But i think Poly-O string cheese has a great plan for the draft and has made the moves to set the stage for an impressive draft. |
Looks like someone likes to leak premium...

LMFAO!!!!
Why would Ray Lewis want to sign with the Chiefs?? The 2-14 freaking KC Chiefs?? ROFL!!! That was good for a laugh. Don't kid yourselves, Chief fans, NOBODY in their right mind wants to sign with the Failure that is the Chiefs organization. |
Oh, that's real funny coming from a Raiders fan.

You guys should know that this information would never have been reported on by Athan...had it not been for a tip from a long-standing, well-respected, reputable Chiefsplanet member.
So laugh now...but Chiefsplanet started this. |

Lewis has not tried to hide how much he hated playing in the 3-4 while Nolan was in Baltimore.
I believe his quote when Nolan finally left and they went back to a 4-3 was "now I can finally start playing football again instead of dealing with offensive linemen." However, this is probably his last contract, so I'm sure he's going to pull out all the stops to try and get a bidding war going. |

Answer the question.
Were you alive, 26 goddamn years ago, when the Raiders last won a Super Bowl? |

I can't believe there are still people propping up the Raiders. Unbelievable.
|
You answered the question.
Now go finish your homework. |
Totally didn't expect to find a Raider beatdown in a thread about Ray Lewis.
.... I guess it's appropriate tho. |
The Raiders won't be good again until they get rid of that old pants-shitter that's running their team into the ground.
