LT(position)

The word around Kansas City is the Chiefs could be open to moving Branden Albert, the No. 15 overall pick last year, to right tackle. The Chiefs could conceivably use the No. 3 draft pick on a left tackle. Yet, the availability of Pace could be tempting to Kansas City.

Pace would fit in Oakland and Kansas City - AFC West - ESPN

What do you do if you're picking in a spot where LT is the only way to get value and no one wants your pick? Reach?

It's nowhere near ideal, but if it's the best value, strengthen the line, curse your luck, and move on. Don't reach.

RustShack 03-10-2009 10:52 PM

Rookie LT, Albert OG, Waters OG, Pace RT, someone at C :hmmm:

What a monumentally stupid fucking idea.

Yeah..let's take a guy who has had a year to develop at the LT position, and only gave up like 4 sacks, and has good feet and move him to the RT. fucking dumb.

RealSNR 03-10-2009 11:17 PM

I liked reading Locke in high school and college.

Why does this guy have red squares?

RealSNR 03-10-2009 11:24 PM

Word around KC, huh?

How do they know that, huh?

Oh, wait, I know. They don't. They're making shit up.

This is hilarious. ESPN has really proven that they're ****in frauds this offseason, if they haven't before in the past. Their "reporters" have jobs that can be done by any asshole who likes sports and knows how to write in complete sentences.

It's not the best value when it prevents you from being able to spend money on positions which actually need the help.

LMAO Exactly. They don't know any better than we do. That's why all Chiefs-related articles these days carry the stench of desperation on them.

the problem is, essentially, 2008.

he played like a future star at LT in 2008. he's smart, and his agent is smart. even IF he doesn't play another down at LT for the chiefs, his agent (come new contract time) will harp on the fact that he's a damned good LT and will demand a fat contract (and GET it even if it's not in kansas city). THAT is the issue at hand.

Pace might just buy us a year or two in our rebuild. AS A RIGHT TACKLE!!!

We already have a LT.

Here's the other problem.

Drafting Monroe or Smith and moving Albert to RT or guard effectively makes that pick one used to fill the need at RT or guard.

****ing stupid.

Yep. We have a LT. So we would be using the #3 pick to fill the RT/RG spot.

I Know. You just said that.

That issue isn't at hand until 2013.

StcChief 03-11-2009 08:27 AM

ESPN enough said... heavy on the "E"

PhillyChiefFan 03-11-2009 08:29 AM

Bullsh*t, I can't believe they would take a guy who in his rookie season stood out at one of the toughest positions on the field and move him to take a "true LT".

Albert is a great LT, why mess with it?

It's something to be worried about right now that way you don't put yourself in a shitty situation..

And Orlando Pace can't even play 5 games anymore without going on IR.

Agree we don't wanna get "Roafed". Pace has been hanging by thread for along time in STL.

Worrying about a contract that ends in 2013 when you are taking over a team that has 6 wins in 2 years? That's probably concern # 7,432 on their list of things to address.

Mecca 03-11-2009 08:41 AM

Every team in the league has a chart of how much money they can and are willing to allocate to each position...if you think any of them say OT 150 million dollars, you're smoking some serious drugs.

And yes they should be worried about it because the kind of money Albert will expect to get when that contract is up will put the Chiefs in the spot where they either have to pay him like they have 2 LT's or let him walk away.

bdeg 03-11-2009 08:43 AM

Definitely a smokescreen, trying to raise the OT's value for a trade scenario.

Tying up money in a top 5 and top 3 DT is a good situation?

htismaqe 03-11-2009 08:57 AM

It's a smokescreen. They're trying to generate interest to fuel more potential trade scenarios.

If we switch to a 3-4, Dorsey could very easily end up on the chopping block.

There's zero scenarios where Albert is.

EyePod 03-11-2009 09:05 AM

Branden Albert was phenomenal last year. He did not get a full offseason workout at all. Then he stepped into the NE game and dominated. Just imagine how much better he'll be after having the entire offseason, including the preseason games to work at it. He should not be moved.

It really is amazing that the one player who has actually played at a high level is the one player that people seem to want to move.

That's a good thing? I'd rather have two great OL and worry about paying them. Albert is extremely affordable through his contract. He has a deal that is roughly 5 years at 15 million, with 9 guaranteed. The Chiefs could easily extend his contract for two years by the end of 2010 for another 10 million.

Yep, and with the uncapped years ahead, most players are getting front-loaded contracts (which we can handle now with our large amounts of cap space).
