Cardinals shopping Boldin

CARDINALS SHOPPING BOLDIN
Posted by Mike Florio on March 12, 2009, 3:59 p.m.

Kurt Warner might get to keep his $2 million, after all.

A league source tells us that the Arizona Cardinals are shopping receiver Anquan Boldin to potential trade partners.

Warner recently has suggested that he’d devote a portion of his salary to signing Boldin to a new contract. (We don’t think Warner really means it.)

Boldin, a six-year veteran, is signed through 2010. He has wanted for roughly a year a significant increase from his current range of $2.5 million to $3 million.

With teammate Larry Fitzgerald at $10 million per year, Boldin is believed to want at least $9 million annually.

Boldin previously has requested a trade. At one point after the Super Bowl, Boldin said that he would not sign a new deal with the Cardinals, and that he wanted to be dealt to a new team. More recently, he had softened in his position, expressing a willingness to consider a new long-term contract to stay with the team.

TRADE ALL OUR PICKS FOR HIM!! OMG!!

The Franchise 03-12-2009 03:17 PM

Yeah and the rumor is that they want a Roy Williams type deal. 1st, 3rd and 6th round picks.

-King- 03-12-2009 03:18 PM

I was thinking a 4th this year and a conditional 3rd next year. If he is a significant addition to our team and we make the playoffs, we move it to a 2nd, if he is a significant addition to our team and we win the superbowl, we give them a 1st.

CoMoChief 03-12-2009 03:19 PM

If it was a 3rd this yr and a 4th next year or even vice-a-versa I would do it in a heart beat.

Yeah, damn! Cowboys really upped the ante huh? Roy Williams deserved NOWHERE near that. I dont know if I would even give up a 3rd or 2nd for him. He is no Boldin by any means.

Mecca 03-12-2009 03:22 PM

They should get atleast the Williams deal, he's better than Williams.

I love posts like this.

I would also buy a Mercedes for 30 grand under book value. So would everyone.

Get ****ing real.

Sam Hall 03-12-2009 03:24 PM

The Eagles need him and the Giants would go to the Super Bowl if they had him.

Hog's Gone Fishin 03-12-2009 03:27 PM

Boldin will never be as good with another team as he is with The Cards! Watch.

Yes he's better than Williams, but neither guy deserves a contract like that... at least not in my opinion...

I was going off of what someone else said what the Cards wanted for him.

Obviously you weren't here for that. Please feel free to go **** off.

I meant as far as what they get in return in a trade.

MMXcalibur 03-12-2009 03:36 PM

With an elite wideout like Larry Fitzgerald, you could stick Corky from "Life Goes On" in Boldin's place and still not miss a step on offense.

Mr. Krab 03-12-2009 03:37 PM

We gotta keep our draft picks.

Red Dawg 03-12-2009 03:52 PM

3rd Rounder and TG or LJ but not both.

This is why the Cards are going to get big compensation for him. They're going to play divisional rivals against each other. Oh wait, it's the Bidwill's. They'll probably ship him to us for a conditional 6th and the key Brian Waters used to use to get into the front office.

brandon 03-12-2009 04:15 PM

While I don't think we should be trading any more picks this year(unless we get some back through other trades), I would not be upset in the least if Boldin was traded to the Chiefs. Like the Cassel/Pioli connection, you know Haley knows AB better than anybody else, and if he really wants to bring him to his team, I would be very happy to see Boldin catching passes from our new Quarterback.

MMXcalibur 03-12-2009 04:24 PM

I think we all forget that Haley and Boldin didn't exactly look chipper with one another on the sidelines of the NFC Championship Game. Granted, it was one game and emotions were running high....but still....not a good sign.

Gravedigger 03-12-2009 04:52 PM

Trade Larry and a 4th for him.

CaliforniaChief 03-12-2009 04:57 PM

The only folks who seriously think Boldin is going to end up here are the few folks on the earth who think the Saints got a steal in the Ricky Williams deal.

I doubt it. Boldin has been better than Fitz every year except for this years playoffs IIRC.

I wasn't giving Boldin credit more than I was giving Corky mad props.

Molitoth 03-12-2009 06:40 PM

Boldin is no where near as good as Fitz.... he doesn't deserve a contract anywhere near him.

Personally I think he will flop wherever he goes.

Based on what?

Boldin was a stud before Fitz ever got there.

Basically I'm talking out of my ass like most of the people here, but I can admit it. Its just my opinion, not fact. ;)

I just have a gut feeling Boldin will not have as good of a career as Fitz. He will be traded for good money, and not produce like he is getting paid to do.
IE: Larry Johnson and a million other players that receive big contracts.
While I know the dude needs to get paid... it seems like he has a love for money, not a love for the game.

That is crazy. Boldin works hard as hell. He practically got his whole face smashed in last year and came back strong way quicker than most anyone would have. He would be a great pick-up, but I say no way it happens.

KCBOSS1 03-12-2009 08:18 PM

OK so why do people freak out so much when you talk about trading decent draft picks? All draft picks are like 50/50 chance of them being at all worth their salt regardless of round...then you end up paying them what proven NFL players get. Is it the draft day buzz or what? I would jump on the opportunity to get Boldin or other proven, relatively young NFL players. I'm an advocate for building both through draft and the free agency. But Boldin is a sick talent....like a brilliant receiver, tight end, and half back wrapped into one. There is not a better possession receiver in the league. I just don't think that Haley would be too keen on getting him. Just sayin...curious for draft response.

I couldn't disagree more. He's a great possession receiver with some of the best after the catch skills I've ever seen. He works great with slants, screens, going over the middle... He's not the type of receiver where the quarterback has to have a lot of pocket time to be utilized...sounds like exactly what we need with our 2 second quarterback pocket time.

DeezNutz 03-12-2009 09:00 PM

Boldin would be a great addition because we really need a burner opposite Bowe.

It's too bad Boldin has questionable hands, though. And it would be better if he were willing to go across the middle.

KCBOSS1 03-12-2009 09:09 PM

he goes across the middle doesn't he? I thought that was how he got his face smashed.

He's too fast to go across the middle.

He got hurt crashing into the wall after a TD catch, cause he couldn't slow down.

Chiefaholic 03-12-2009 10:07 PM

Throw LJ into the deal to keep our #1 pick and you have a deal. They need a HB, and Haley already knows what he's getting out of Boldin.
