I'm not a fan, but even Larry knows that he is blessed to get so much out of this one trick pony act. I have a friend that was in one of his movies and she said that he was one of the most generous and down to earth people she has met in the business. He is grateful for everything he has.

From what I've heard, even the most jaded appreciate the person.

Hacks like Dane Cook, Carlos Mencia and Larry the Cable Guy are the Bernie Madoffs and comedy and deserve none of the fame, success or money they've stolen.

Or the routines they've stolen.

I'm not a fan of any of those guys, but Carlos Mencia is the only one of those three that I've ever heard of actually stealing jokes. You can say Larry or Dane Cook sucks, but to say they stole their fame or money is asinine. It takes some serious balls to get in front of a crowd with the sole purpose of making them laugh. It's a tough racket. It may not be your thing, but to say they're stealing is just dumb.

I didn't know that. I've seen Louis C.K. do a show and listened to quite a bit of his material, and I like him a lot. I'd never heard that Cook stole his material.

Dane Cook has stolen jokes from Louis CK, Demetri Martin and Joe Rogan to name a few. To say he's stealing is completely accurate. And Larry the Cable Guy steals jokes from the Big Bathroom Book of Hillbilly Bullshit. Nothing about his act is inventive or original.

And I know it takes serious balls to do stand-up, because I've done it a few times and succeeded. But I'd never compromise myself creatively to become rich. I'd hate myself for it.

I'll take your word that Cook stole. But Larry's act is a schtick. You can't steal schtick I don't think. You might call him a hack, but he earned what he got. I'm not saying his act is inventive, original, or even funny. But unless he's stealing material, I'll give him credit for getting what he's got. He's there to make people laugh, and some people like it.
