my dad's Chiefs room / post your own!

My dad, who's a lurker on the board (redngold58), has spent the past several years of his life collecting any and every article of Chiefs memorabilia he can. Anything he gets goes into the computer room of my parents house. After years of collecting such items, you can imagine how ridiculously Chiefed-out this room is.

I called him last week and asked him if he had any pictures of the room because I wanted to give him some cred on the Planet, but to no avail. So I went home with my camera and snapped some shots of the room and its many elements for display on ChiefsPlanet. There are quite a few pictures, so hopefully this photobucket thing works, but enjoy!

He's put a lot of time and effort (and $, right dad?) into the room and it's his pride and joy.

here goes:

That's awesome. Well done.

Bugeater 03-16-2009 04:16 PM

How many coats of that red did it take to paint that room?

ncCHIEFfan 03-16-2009 04:18 PM

Brother, that is kool! Wish I had a shrine just close to that.

xfactor 03-16-2009 04:19 PM

That is a kick ass room!! That's a great looking bunch of guys in your signature also ;)

Stewie 03-16-2009 04:19 PM

I don't even think the Chiefs' organization has that much stuff. Very cool!

Mr. Flopnuts 03-16-2009 04:19 PM

Very cool. It looks like on that white tshirt it says something about the Raiders being like Autumn Wind. This whole board can ad lib it from there.

Sweet Daddy Hate 03-16-2009 04:20 PM

I'm dizzy, and a little vaklempt.

That is one proper collection and room. Is your old man going to Canton?

rockymtnchief 03-16-2009 04:28 PM

He's gonna need a bigger room pretty soon! Good job.

One tip though, the Pro Bowl jersey in the window could start to fade if left in direct sun light.

vailpass 03-16-2009 04:28 PM

The baseball caps in the shape of an arrowhead are a very nice touch.

mikey23545 03-16-2009 04:29 PM

Well, well, done!

Hat's off to your Dad!

stevieray 03-16-2009 04:34 PM

It's still cool. That would be one hard if not impossible piece of history to acquire.

What's that 45 in the corner next to the "Chiefs and Chopper" banner?

It makes me wish for a place of my own. I got a ton of sweet Chiefs stuff just need a place to display it all.

doomy3 03-16-2009 05:43 PM

Thanks for posting this! I always love to see what people have. I have some pretty cool stuff too, but haven't gotten it all displayed yet. Some highlights:

Actual helmet telephones used by the Chiefs from the years they drafted Derrick Thomas, Neil Smith, and Tony Gonzalez

Derrick Thomas signed game used Chiefs home jersey

Tony Gonzalez signed game used Pro Bowl jersey

And of course tons of autographs, etc.

My favorite piece I have though is a George Brett cracked bat. Here's what's special about this one though. Everyone remembers the pine tar game, well of course George kept that bat. Well, a pitch or two before that, he hit a long foul ball and cracked his bat. It also was full of pine tar. I have that bat.

skky man 03-16-2009 05:44 PM

Do you mean the 44? If so, it goes with the big picture above the computer. It's from the Chiefs/49ers game from back in the day when the Chiefs started their backup (I think it was Gannon) against Steve Young and the 49ers...we thought it was going to be just an absolutely horrible game, bit it turned into one of biggest blowouts. So, one year my mom had a panoramic picture that we had taken from our seats blown up and framed and made the plaques to look like parts of a scoreboard displaying the final score of the game

No. The final score in the Montana v. Young game was 24-17 (I just rewatched it a couple of weeks ago).

The 44-9 game was against Young, but Joe had already retired. It was a great game because they were favored and we kicked the shit out of them.

same as previous post...I'm pretty sure it was Gannom coming in and blowing up the 49ers D...it was a long time ago, and I was pretty young

ChiefsCountry 03-16-2009 06:47 PM

Here is some of my stuff I have, I know mom can't wait till I get a place of my own so she can have her guest bedroom back. :)

Len Dawson autogeraphed frame jersey
Derrick Thomas autographed frame jersey
Len Dawson autographed photo
Marcus Allen autographed photo
Jan Stenrud autographed photo
Albert Lewis autographed football
Eric Warfield autographed picture (yeah, yeah I know)
4 George Brett autographed bats
20 different Royals signed balls

That is just some of the main stuff.

Yep, I usually use this stuff from Sherwin-Williams...it is kinda purple-ish. Some of those bright colors can be a real bitch, I hate working with them.

cdcox 03-16-2009 09:56 PM

Very cool.

I had the Otis Taylor artsy poster in pic 12 and the Chiefs #1 World Champs license plate in pic 14 and several of the football cards in pic 10. I'd forgotten all about that Taylor poster until I saw it again.

By far the coolest thing I wish I still had was an electric football game (the vibrating kind) painted out in Chiefs-Vikings SBIV. Just old school all the way around.

Yep. 1997. The year I moved to Ohio. I was getting shit from a guy at work who was a 9er fan. He was convinced the Chiefs had no chance in that game.
