Has anyone ever been to Red Rocks Amplihtheatre?

Just wondering what your experiences were? What's the place like? It looks amazing from the pictures I've seen.

I saw Neil Young there like 25 years ago. It's probably the coolest outdoor venue I've been to. It'd have been better had it been anybody BUT Neil Young. LOL

I usually try and catch a show or two a season out there. Easily the best outdoor venue I have been to.

The place has a long history, the weather is usually great and tailgating in the parking lot is a good time.

Have to agree, great place. First 24 rows are GA (or were last time I went), but the upper rows were better IMO (not into the front row shoving match). Gorgeous views really improve the experience.

I would love to watch a concert out there sometime. We visited it when it was empty one year and it was quite the sight.

NewChief 03-25-2009 05:47 AM

It's a cool venue for sure. Beware the madness of Denver traffic post show, though.

NewChief 03-25-2009 05:48 AM

Oh, and Phish, for some reason, has had their lifetime ban from Red Rocks lifted, and they'll be playing there this summer. I suggest you try to attend a concert there prior to the descent of the hippie hordes. It might not ever be the same after that.

My good buddy saw phish there without me in the 90's. Now it looks like my turn.

Sorry to hear that. Yeah I did I ended up ordering for the whole RR run and the Chicago show as a fall back since I didn't think they'd fill my order at all. They filled the whole darn thing. This must be their payback to me for the debacle that was Coventry.

After you go to a concert there, it becomes the concert by which all other concerts are judged.

I saw Neil Young twice. First time, Booker T and the MG's were his band and Soundgarden and Blind Melon opened. Great show!
The second was on his Greendale tour. I didn't know that when I bought the tickets. WORST SHOW EVAR!
The band basically provided the narrative to a bad high school play that unfolded as they played.

I've seen Tom Petty (can't remember the year), REM (last summer), U2 (1983), and a few others that escape me. Just fantastic every time.

I also want to go to a show at The Gorge in Seattle, which I've heard is awesome too.

Roger that on The Gorge. Never been but want to go. I googled it and it is seriously in the sticks but looks amazing. It's not really that close to Seattle.

Been there many times when it's empty (it's a fun tourist site when the fam comes to town). I saw Blues Traveler there July 4, 2007, and I'll be seeing Flight of the Conchords there in may. Definitely a cool experience.

I love me some Blues Traveler. Their debut album came out about the same time they turned me loose at the college radio station. I got to meet Popper backstage at a solo show in Ann Arbor.

I too have not seen a show there but made a stop by there one time when I was up in CO. Very cool venue. There was just "some guy" up on stage playing a mandolin to his heart's content the day went.

That's one of the coolest aspects of the place IMO. I don't know of many other venues in the world where a musician can just walk in and play to get a taste of what it would be like to play there. There's almost always a decent number of people there as tourists, exercising on the stairs, and that type of thing.
