PFW: The Way We Hear It — draft edition
Belichick disciples cloud top five; Draft audibles By Nolan Nawrocki April 8, 2009 With barely two weeks to go before the draft takes place, most teams have entered final draft meetings to properly set their boards before final character and medical meetings allow the board to bleed, as red strikes are crossed through names, draft cards are flipped upside down or removed altogether. Virginia OLT Eugene Monroe Virginia OLT Eugene Monroe The top of the draft is beginning to shape up, with Matthew Stafford and a pair of blind-side protectors — Baylor’s Jason Smith and Virginia’s Eugene Monroe — all in heavy consideration at the top of the draft and expected to fit into the top five. However, the presence of new Chiefs GM Scott Pioli and Browns head coach Eric Mangini — two tight-lipped, guarded Bill Belichick disciples — near the top of the draft order has left observers only guessing at what might happen in the top five, creating as much uncertainty at the top of the draft as ever. There's a leaguewide perception that Aaron Curry is being prized by the Chiefs at No. 3 because he is such a safe choice. However, the way we hear it, the Chiefs will be in the big-man sweepstakes, with the new regime being driven by the need to draft someone who can protect new QB Matt Cassel and thereby enhance his chance of success. If Stafford is selected first overall as expected, it would force either Smith or Monroe into the Chiefs’ hands. Monroe played for Al Groh, who worked with Pioli and new K.C. head coach Todd Haley previously in New York with the Jets, and shares a playing history with Chiefs OLT Branden Albert. Reuniting the two would be a very natural fit. If Smith happened to fall, the Chiefs could leave Albert on the left side and kick ORT Damion McIntosh inside to guard, significantly improving the pocket. |

That's why Alex Mack is playing center for the Chiefs. We got the 18th and 24th from them for Larry, Tony and Brian. We picked Monroe with the #3, Clint Sintim with the #18 and Alex Mack with the #24. Fortunately, Kraig Urbik was still on the board when we picked in the third round. Four potential Hall of Fame guys now on the offensive line, and three of them in this draft. Jesus...what show have you guys been watching? |

And remember who said it first here when it says "MONROE" on the back of our left tackles jersey when the season starts. |
the eagles are going to trade 2 first round draft picks for a bunch of over-30 yrs old players from one of the worst teams in the league....one of whom is an alcoholic, women beating quitter who was suspended last year...
this rivals the dumbest things ever typed on the planet |

Abominations 1:23 - It was then in the darkest hour that I saw a star fall from Heaven unto the Bottomless Pit and a LT emerged from the mist. Yea, it was then that I knew that the 3rd Pick of 32 was wasted in the name of the RT.

Need those ratings to ratchet up prime time commerical prices. They pay Kiper to be no better than he is.

If that is the case, he needs to have a Ted McGinley avatar ASAP. |
One of two scenarios are at play.
Either KC does think Monroe is better than Albert and may be willing to flip them; or They think Cincy or somebody else will want to move up and take Monroe so they are feigning interest. |
Jesus h christ. Three olinemen who haven't played a down and they've been annointed hall of famers?

... or this is all smokescreen because no one knows what Pioli is going to do.

I would rather pick Monroe than Sanchez.
Think about this. When the Chiefs had the BEST offense in the NFL, they had Trent Green, Priest Holmes and Eddie Kennison at three of the most important positions on offense. All three were serviceable at best without a great offensive line. Not my first choice, but I don't think it would be terrible. |

McIntosh does have a few starts at guard. I would think that he wouldn't be quick enough play guard, but he does have some experience at it.

The idea that we'd move Albert, after the rookie season he had, is just preposterous. You don't **** with potential greatness. Ever. |

His lack of speed is another issue altogether. McIntosh at guard = EPIC FAIL. |
San Diego and Miami already tried to have him play guard and he failed. Besides we have Goff and Waters at guard no need to move McSuck there. I wish people would use their ****ing brains on that.
