Mayock is putting his career on the line

Did anyone see him basically guarantee that Robert Ayers would be the best player in this draft when we look back at this class 3 years from now? Incredible! Im not sure what he sees in the guy. But hes nothin special IMO. Maybe were all fools, but I think Mayock was on drugs during that session. Sorry if this has already been discussed. It just amazed me.

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-09-2009 08:36 PM

People need to realize how overrated Mike Mayock has become the last year.

Mecca 04-09-2009 08:37 PM

He's doing it on purpose....if he's wrong no one will think much of it, if he's right he can go "see what I said" for the next 10 years.

He's had a bunch of outlandish takes besides this one but they tend to get ignored.

DaneMcCloud 04-09-2009 08:37 PM

Besides that, he a commentator. That's what he's paid to do: Comment.

His "ass" is far from being on any line.

aturnis 04-09-2009 10:26 PM

Ayers is great against the run. Probably the best DE as far as that goes. Other than that I'd assume Mayock thinks he's got a lot of room to improve as far as rushing the passer goes, due to his athleticism. I don't think Mayock is too overrated. I think he's one of the few draft heads who really knows how to break down film.

It's not that he doesn't know film it's that he breaks down players like it's 1984. He loves Ayers who plays the run yet is a marginal pass rusher while ripping on Everette Brown..

He loves Brandon Pettigrew cause he blocks then rips on receiving TE's, it's like he's stuck in the time warp.

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-10-2009 12:04 AM

Ayers is Tamba Hali.

That's great that he can break down film, because he's pretty much NAILED Ayers, his strengths and his weaknesses.

The problem is that he should STICK to breaking down film, because his predictions are awful.

You might be right about Ayers, but I dont see it yet. Mayock is lucky that he has access to almost any players game film. I dont have that much.

I'm pretty sure some of the draft gurus on Chiefs Planet have coaches tape to watch.

LOL No they have coaces tape sent to them. That's why their evaluations are so much better then those who disagree with them.[sarc]

Well, I can certainly tell you that the "draft gurus" on the 'Planet know a helluva lot more than you.

Oops, I forgot. You can see "intensity" in a 10 second clip on Youtube.

KCrockaholic 04-10-2009 01:13 PM

Well he probably doesnt have access to the coaches tape like the rest of CP, like he said.

bdeg 04-10-2009 03:11 PM

This post I just found on another board summarizes how I feel about Mayock. He knows his stuff, just now to value/rank players. Ayers may be a fine run-stopping LE, but that's not a top-20 player in my book. Anyway...:

"I have never really listened to Mayock, I am so tired of these statements he makes, I have no idea what he did to become so respectable as draft analyst, the only thing he is good at is breaking down tape, that I must say he is amazing at... but you guys say in every thread where he says something stupid "Oh, Mayock does that a couple times a year." well its not a couple of times that for sure, he just sometimes has no idea what he is talking about. Last year in his final mock he predicted us drafting Mario Mannignham, /clap, only he predicted we'd take him in round 1, we got him 2 rounds later at the end of round 3.

When he breaks down film I listen, when he ranks prospects I think in my head GTFO, of course I am no draft analyst what do I know, but I am entitled to my opinion and thats what it is, I really don't think Mayock is that great."

Who needs coaches tape?

The TV broadcast is just fine, provided you know WTF you're looking at.

Most people here have no ****ing clue what to look for.

And it shows in their insecure and mindless comments.

Yeah because on the Coach's tape (correct grammar), the cameras adjust to each and every player and each and every angle. Automatic notes are made by the cameras to give the coaches an edge.

Really? No wonder those guys always seem to know what they are doing. I knew the benefits of digital recording live events would be first utilized in sports to full benefit. Well, that and some covert government operations - I mean those flying recording (video & sound) devices that they have disguised as dragonflies is cutting edge, but you just had to know that they NFL would be employing such cool devices as describe above.

I'm sorry, that was sarcasm.

I think you got it?

:D

B_Ambuehl 04-13-2009 12:42 PM

I can see why he would say that about Robert Ayers. The guy is probably most versatile defender in the draft. He plays the run well and can get after the QB but he's a bit different then the other pass rushers in that he can run through blocks. Reminds me a little bit of Adalius Thomas in that he could conceivably play 3 different positions.

It dosen't really matter, Three years from now nobody is really gonna remember what he said.

Kinda like what someone said earlier today about Kiper. He is like the Weatherman, tomorrow he will just make another forecast....
