my new chiefs mock with trades through round 3.
this is probably more of what I would want to do than what the chiefs brass would do.
1.) Lions QB Matt Stafford 2.) Rams LT Jason Smith 3.) Bengals (Chiefs trade to Bengals for 2nd round pick) LT Eugene Monroe 4.) Seahawks DT BJ Raji 5.) Browns LB Aaron Curry 6.) Chiefs WR Michael Crabtree (best player available and with the trade of Tony G, we need another target.) 38.) (Pick from Bengals) Chiefs Eben Britton OT 55.) (Trade Tony Gonzalez to Atlanta for #55 pick) Chiefs OLB/DE Michael Johnson 67.) Chiefs TE Jared Cook I would hope that Cook would drop to us with our 3rd round pick. He could go in round 2, but Mayock doesn't even have him ranked as a top 5 TE for what I am assuming is blocking concerns. If he drops to round 3, I'd take him. |
You took one player I like in Jared Cook and if he lasts till 67 I'll eat my shoe.
|
I can see our first couple of picks..but we just drafted a TE last year in the 3rd round..

Jared Cook is a monster and was our offense last year. I was so pissed off that he declared. Also pissed that captain and norwood left too though.
|
Cook is huge...he was in one of my classes last year...when he showed up. There is no way that guy is a WR.

He came in as a WR and became a TE he's up to roughly 250 and posted a great 40 time and all that..
Some teams though basically think he's just an overgrown WR though as he really doesn't block and is just receiver. |

Most NFL teams don't look at it that way they like guys who can be receivers out of the position now. |

There are more than a couple guys like that this year..
Cook, Beckum and Ingram are all in the overgrown WR/TE receiving not much blocking mold. |

Pettigrew is a nice player, he's just Daniel Graham. |

Pettigrew is probably going to go first although it wouldn't shock me to see a Cook or a Shawn Nelson jump him. Pettigrew posting those 5 second 40s probably didn't calm teams concerned about his receiving ability.
I'll say he'll probably still go first but it's going to depend alot on what those teams want. If you want another OT out there that blocks really well so you can run you go Pettigrew he's 20lbs heavier and a better blocker...the other guys are much greater receiving weapons. |
the bengals need crabtree more than we need crabtree:rolleyes:

the bengals really need a LT. they also signed laveranues coles and still have ocho cinco. |
Why can't someone be nice and give us 1 of the receivers I like?

I think Hakeem Nicks is better than he is and I like Heyward Bey more also.

We'll see Crabtree is the guy from the spread, they aren't.

Heyward Bey has actually been productive with nothing around him...it's not like all he is, is a track guy. If that was the case he wouldn't have been the best player on his team or a 3 year starter.

He's VERY raw as a WR and I hope we don't use a first-day pick on him thinking he's gonna come in and produce like Dwayne Bowe. He's a project - he has high-end speed, but needs serious work in nearly every other facet of his game. |

I don't think the Seahawks take Raji, but if they did and the draft fell this way, we would trade down to 10 with SF so they could take Sanchez. |

As for the mock draft in this thread, my thoughts:
1. Crabtree at 6 - Good value. Only other choice would be Orakpo. 2. Britton at 38 - Again, good value. Should be able to start at RT and backup at LT if need be. 3. Johnson - not a bad value for where he is drafted, I just happen to think he will be a bust. Maybe explore Kruger, Brown or Sidbury instead. 4. Jared Cook - good value. On paper it looks like a decent value draft, but there isn't much help on defense. |

I think MJ is a steal at that pick, nothing wrong with taking a gamble with that kind of upside in that range. But if we did take Barwin at 38 who would you look at with the 55

He'd be really good value, but I doubt he makes it that far.

It is very possible that Johnson could fall to 55. I think someone is going to reach for Sidbury and I bet he goes before pick 55. |
