So does anyone have a list of Pioli's Round 2 draft picks?
Just curious to see how he's done in the second round previously.
|
go to allthingsbillbelichick.com and check out the "draft" tab or whatever it is on the left. You'll get every draft BB was ever involved in. Not sure how relevant any pre-Patriots draft would be.
In general, it's been hit and miss in the 2nd round. Deion Branch and Eugene Wilson were very good picks. Bethel Johnson and Chad Jackson not so much. |
Cassel and Vrabel for the Chiefs is the only 2nd rounder he is responsible for. I don't get how he was responsible for anything in NE. He wasn't the GM and BB called the shots for the most part.

Expect Haley to have a lot of input in future seasons. My guess is that his input may be less this year depending upon how much he got to look at the prospects given the late nature of his arrival. The Patriots pattern seems to be to use the second round as much more of a gambling round than round 1. It won't surprise me to see the Chiefs (and Broncos) to take a similar approach. |

perfect. thank you. |
I feel the same way when someone mentions "Haley's offense." Was it really his after only two seasons? The weapons dictated what his offense was going to be. Most of those were already there.
|
Hmmm...Terrence Wheatley, Chad Jackson, Marquise Hill, Eugene Wilson, Bethel Johnson & Deion Branch. Not sure what to make of that.
|
Anyone have a list of Pioli's 7th round picks? Id really like to see how hes fared.

I'm not sure what Pioli's history in NE has to do with what he may or may not do here.
We're talking about two situations that are polar opposites. In New England, he never really had glaring needs to address, and could take some chances he may not have normally taken. Plus, these 2nd round picks he had were very late 2nds. In KC, he has a roster full of holes, and early picks in each round. |

And for the Chiefs during 2002 -2008:
Eddie Freeman, Kawika Mitchell, Junior Siavii, Kris Wilson, Bernard Pollard, Turk McBride & Brandon Flowers. |

We all have tendencies. Just curious. And yes, it's pretty obvious the two franchises are VERY different. |

A couple good, a couple not so much. The Marquise Hill thing throws a wrench in it because we'll never know about him. Not their fault. |
I don't completely buy this idea that the Patriots never had holes to fill. That roster was a mess in 2000. Full of overpaid deadweight, way over the cap, and after 3 disastrous drafts by Bobby Grier. After the 5-11 season they signed something like 17 mid level FA's just to increase the talent level and provide depth. They never dreamed they would win a SB with it in 2001. Then they did a remarkable job totally revamping the roster by 2003 and a much more talented and younger team won the SBs in 2003 and 2004. But in 2000 they were a bad team.

They've both talked about it ad nauseum. Shared veto power. Usually they agreed on a guy, but if EITHER one didnt' like a guy for whatever reason, they wouldn't get him. But absolute, final say over all football operations is Belichick's. |

Picture two colleagues who are on the same page 98% of the time working to build a team together. Technically, one reports to the other, but they're in agreement so much that it hardly matters. During the 5% of disagreement, if it's over GETTING a new player (draft/FA), then EITHER can veto the acquisition. That's about what it was. |

Johnson and Jackson were busts, and Hill was heading that way before he died in an unfortuante accident. |

I think we had a ST stud for a couple years out of the 7th too. Cant' remember his name. |

And 2 of the last 3 2nd rounders are decent; Flowers is going to be a stud, and Bernard Pollard brought about a cataclysmic paradigm shift not seen since relativity. |
