17th ranked DE Height: 6-41/4 | Weight: 269 | 40-Time: 4.70 Strengths: Very good height and bulk with a large frame...Quick...Uses his hands well...Stout at the point...Good instincts and a high football IQ...Has an excellent motor...Is real strong...Offers some versatility...Productive. Weaknesses: Didn't face top competition...Average speed and lacks a burst...Not an elite pass rusher...A limited repertoire of moves...Doesn't bend off the edge well...Poor change of direction...Struggles standing up / in space. Notes: Profiles as a left defensive end in a 4-3 scheme or a five-technique in a 30 front, although some teams are considering him as a 3-4 outside linebacker...Played in all 12 games in 2005...Started 11 games in 2006 but missed some time with an ankle injury...Started all 12 games in 2007 and 2008...Named 1st Team All-Ohio Valley Conference as a junior and senior...Was twice named to the Associated Press FCS All- American team...A bit of a Workout Warrior who doesn't play nearly as fast as he ran in pre-draft workouts...Developmental project with an intriguing size/speed ratio...Small school gem worth a late round flyer. |
I would have liked for the Chiefs to bring in Ramon Foster damn

Chiefs - DE Pierre Walters (Eastern Illinois)

Eastern Illinois DE/OLB Pierre Walters is another projected late-round pick that is starting to gain attention around the NFL. And he's getting notice from teams that play 3-4 and 4-3 defensive schemes.
According to a league source, Walters worked out Friday for the Green Bay Packers and visited the San Diego Chargers on Thursday. He's scheduled to work out for the Indianapolis Colts this Tuesday. Walters is projected to go off the board in rounds 5-7. The Chargers will be meeting with another college prospect on the defensive side of the ball, as reports say they will talk to Eastern Illinois defensive end/outside linebacker Pierre Walters on April 8th. Walters is 6?4 and 269 pounds with 4.69 speed in the 40-yard dash. He could play as a 3-4 outside linebacker or as a 4-3 defensive end in the NFL. “I’ve been hearing some teams see me as a 4-3 end and some teams think I would fit best as an outside linebacker standing up in a 3-4 scheme,” Walters told us in a telephone interview. “I can put on weight if they need me to to be a 3-4 end. I like to eat and I’ve weighed as much as 285 pounds. “I’ve been blessed with a frame that can put on or lose weight. This is my ultimate goal. To get drafted would be a dream come true, so I’m working very hard to make that happen.” |
Update. Chargers have now signed 3 players that I was advocating.

Weaknesses: Inconsistent...Timed speed is merely average...Questionable instincts and awareness...Poor route runner...Has trouble beating the jam...Not a vertical threat...Doesn't get a lot of separation...Average production. Notes: Only started a grand total of 12 games during his career with the Bulls but played extensively in a backup capacity...Has his name all over the USF record books and is 2nd in career touchdowns and 3rd in both receiving yards and receptions...Averaged 19.8 yards on 37 kick returns...Could compete for a pro roster spot but profiles as a backup. |

Former Eastern Illinois University LB Pierre Walters and former University of Maine LB Jovan Belcher have agreed to contract terms with the Kansas City Chiefs, Scout.com has confirmed. With the expected move to a 3-4 defensive scheme and being that the Chiefs are light on depth at linebacker, both players should have a chance to make the final roster. |

Jovan Belcher Height: 6-13/8 | Weight: 243 | 40-Time: 4.88 Strengths: Good athleticism...More quick than fast with a burst...Real tough and physical...Powerful tackler...Excellent pass rusher...Durable...Team leader...Versatile...Good work ethic...Has nice special teams potential. Weaknesses: 'Tweener who may not have a true position...Did not play against top competition...Poor timed speed...Stiff...Too aggressive at times...Raw coverage skills...Still needs to get stronger...Questionable awareness. Notes: A four-year starter for the Black Bears...Played outside linebacker in 2005 and 2006...Moved to defensive end in 2007 and 2008...Named 1st Team All-CAA as a junior and senior...Was a consensus 1st Team All-American in '08...Could project outside in a 4-3 scheme or inside in a 3-4...Did not perform as well as expected in workouts...Sleeper who will likely have to earn a roster spot by excelling on special teams. |

I'll be shocked if the Chiefs don't bring in a small herd of Olinemen, particularly guards. |
KANSAS CITY -- He wasn't selected in the 2009 NFL Draft but former Western Michigan Bronco Defensive Back Londen Fryar will have his shot at the NFL. Fryar signed a Free Agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday evening WMU Media Relations Director Mat Kanan confirmed through e-mail Sunday evening.
Fryar was 1st team All-MAC multiple times and was a part of a fearsome Bronco secondary that saw 2 of it's members drafted (Louis Delmas 33rd and EJ Biggers 217th) and a 3rd headed to the Chiefs in Fryar. Fryar follows father Irving who starred in the NFL for the Patriots, Dolphins, Eagles and Redskins from 1984-2000. Fryar is scheduled to fly from Philadelphia to Kansas City for mini-camp on May 7th. http://wkzonews.blogspot.com/2009/04...nsas-city.html Overview Londen Fryar is a former cornerback at Western Michigan. After playing four seasons at Western Michigan (redshirt in 2004), Fryar was eligible to be selected in the 2009 NFL Draft but went undrafted. Fryar is 5-feet, 11-inches tall and weighs 192 pounds. Prep Career At Holy Cross High School in Jobstown, New Jersey, Fryar was a receiver, defensive back and kick returner. Fryar was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer All-South Jersey First Team and was a third team all-state selection. College Career After redshirting in 2004, Fryar made his collegiate debut vs Temple and finished the 2005 season with seven appearances and made one start that year. In 2006, Fryar started in all 12 games for Western Michigan. In a game vs Toledo that season, he recorded a career-high two interceptions for 106 return yards, including a 92-yard interception return for a touchdown. The return was the third-longest in WMU history. By the end of the 2006 season, Fryar led the MAC with six interceptions and was a member of the First Team All-MAC Defense. In 2007, Fryar was named to the First Team All-MAC Defense for a second consecutive year, setting a school record with six break-up plays vs Akron. He also led Western Michigan with 16 pass deflections, the second-highest single season total ever recorded at WMU. Fryar finished the 2008 season playing in 11 games (10 starts) with 42 total tackles and one interception. Personal Fryar's father, Irving, played in the NFL for 18 seasons (New England, Miami, Philadelphia and Washington). He was the No. 1 overall selection in the 1984 NFL Draft. http://espn.go.com/nfldraft/research...playerId=24424 |
