Seahawk "Franchised" LB LeRoy Hill Released--Paging Pioli....
Drafting Curry, they must have decided the guy they slapped with a franchise tag....isn't worth the cash they were gonna have to pay him.
Stock-piling LBs is a priority for 3-4 teams....especially one so weak at LB, like us. THOUGHTS on this guy??? JoeSeahawk???? :hmmm: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4101934 Seattle pulls Hill's franchise tag -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Mike Sando ESPN.com RENTON, Wash. -- The Seahawks withdrew the franchise designation from linebacker Leroy Hill after drafting Wake Forest's Aaron Curry with the fourth overall choice. The move, confirmed by the team, makes Hill a free agent. The one-year, $8.3 million franchise offer no longer exists. Hill, a third-round choice in 2005, had refused to sign the offer while attempting to negotiate a lucrative long-term deal. He skipped voluntary minicamp practices recently. Curry is expected to get at least $25 million guaranteed in his new contract. Saturday, Seahawks president and general manager Tim Ruskell said he was still in negotiations for a long-term deal with Hill. Coach Jim Mora marveled after selecting Curry that the team's defense now has, along with Lofa Tatupu, "three good, young linebackers who are all impact-type players and it is an exciting group. It will be fun to watch them grow together." |
He's not a fit for the 3-4 at all unless he play's Johnson's spot.

why not bring him in.....
.....first in. What do I win? |
I don't really mean it.

Seattle is reeruned, you draft Curry release him.
Talk about a spinning your wheels move. |
Makes total sense. All you need is Curry. Curry is all you need.

I really think DJ could be effective as an OLB in the 3-4. DJ, Hill, Thomas, Vrabel.

Sign him up Scotty!

ROFL
Seattle takes Curry at #4 and then releases a guy that EARNED his money. |

Dont know much about LeRoy Hill....what good is he? Didn't Seattle run a 4-3?

DAMN YOU! |

LeRoy Hill is better than DJ so if you want to sign him and try DJ outside go for it.

I'm forwarding this to Pioli so he knows he has your ok. |

With Curry going to Seattle, I can't help but think of Brian Bosworth.
This smells so much like Bosworth. |

he could go to 10 straight pro bowls and still wouldn't be worth a top 5 pick. So yeah...living up to that #4 might prove difficult. |

The fact is, he was a bust because he never lived up to the hype, but he was a solid player. |

This is probably their way of saying, we still want you....but we don't think you are worth that Franchise tender we are forced to offer you--but you haven't signed yet. Heh! I can't imagine this will endear the Seahawks to Hill.... :hmmm: |

I remember being real impressed with Hill his first season when he had a bunch of sacks. It looks like he hasn't had many since then. I don't know if he would fit as an OLB. Do we have a spot for him on the inside?
|
4-3 LB?

Hill is an excellent linebacker, very good at rushing the passer, I do not want to lose him and hope the Seahawks find a way to keep him. The franchise number for a LB is something like 8 mil? I think ruskell is gambling that we can re sign him at less than the franchise number..
He did have a little trouble in the offseason, the cops found him asleep at the wheel of his 70's era pontiac in the middle of an intersection.. :doh!: Ruskell hates stuff like that. Anyway, he's a great LB and I hope we find a way to re-sign him.. |

:p As for that 70's Pontiac....maybe it's nostalgia, from his childhood....that ride looks like a lot of the ones from my neighborhood back in the day.... ;) |
I have not read the replies. Did anyone mention this guy has had an arrest and wants $36 mil?

Hill is a rush LB who forgot how to rush after his rookie season. He'd fit in well here.
|
The Seahawks are apparently trying to get him signed.. I hope we do.

i think he has a good chance of coming to kc since we should be singing a couple more linebackers now anyway. but i think the only thing that might keep him from signing is wether or not he fits pioli/haley's mold for a player AKA is he a bill parcells kinda guy.

Since nobody's actually confirmed it, yes, Seattle is a 4-3 team. Hill played OLB.

Is this some kind of fairy tale defense or what!?! Does it even exist?? We are doomed. |

Seattle thought enough of him to franchise him though....so I'm thinking he'd be at least the second best LB on our roster, and that's IF we were to give DJ the benefit of the doubt. |
i wonder why his sack totals just dropped off the charts after his 1st year?

Seattle pushes ahead after pulling Hill's tag
<dl class="byline"> Sports Digest <dd> April 28, 2009</dd></dl> <!-- sphereit start --> The Seattle Seahawks brought back veteran cornerback Ken Lucas and signed free-agent fullback Justin Griffith with one-year contracts, about two hours after team president Tim Ruskell said the Seahawks are having "just conversations" with linebacker Leroy Hill's agent on a possible long-term deal. Seattle rescinded its 2009 franchise tag on Hill hours after it selected outside linebacker Aaron Curry fourth overall in the NFL draft. That made Hill a free agent instead of guaranteeing him $8.3 million in Seattle. Redskins: At his charity golf tournament in Potomac Falls, Va., starting quarterback Jason Campbell said "it definitely was a shock when I started hearing Sanchez talk," referring to the team's desire to draft former Southern California quarterback Mark Sanchez. Sanchez was selected by the New York Jets. ... Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel, a former Heisman Trophy finalist who wasn't chosen in the NFL draft, agreed to terms with Washington. |
Go get this guy Scott. He upgrades your Linebacking corps immediately.
|
Just heard on Sirius that Mora said they "were close to reaching a long-term deal" with him, sorry no link.
I have no idea y he would want to go back there, they run a 4-3 and he would probably be a backup behind Curry. Not sure if we are even interested, maybe they don't think he would fit in our scheme? Too expensive? |

Coach Jim Mora said on KJR Radio in Seattle Thursday that the Seahawks are close to re-signing OLB LeRoy Hill. The Seahawks removed Hill's franchise tag on draft weekend, but never let him out of their sights. "My belief in talking to LeRoy as much as I have is that he’ll be wearing a Seattle Seahawk uniform," Mora said. "I feel very confident of that." The Seahawks offered Hill $36 million over six seasons this winter, but his market value has dropped since then. On a side note, I'm going to put a random capital letter in my first name. |
