Mr. Flopnuts 06-11-2009 09:09 AM

Sorry, it's the gold box special.

The Franchise 06-11-2009 09:10 AM

And....it's sold out.

Mr. Flopnuts 06-11-2009 09:15 AM

I knew that wouldn't take long.

Mr. Flopnuts 06-11-2009 09:19 AM

We can either delete this or slide it on over to the media section now. Thanks for letting the masses have their chance mods.

Buck 06-11-2009 09:23 AM

Every now and again when they sell out of the Gold Box Item, they switch it to something different.

Maybe now they can sell a bunch of refurb 360s that had the RROD.

w00t

jidar 06-11-2009 09:30 AM

There are 6 rpgs on the ps3. I just noticed that today. wow.

The Franchise 06-11-2009 09:30 AM

What the ****....now it's back up for sale again.

Mr. Flopnuts 06-11-2009 09:34 AM

And there's more!!! Get em while they're hot!

meStevo 06-11-2009 09:43 AM

In a few months it will probably be $300 anyways, after the way overpriced PSP Go comes out to try and offset a PS3 price cut.

If it doesn't drop in price, it will probably still be 'the superior console you wish more of your friends had so you have people to play it with'.

We've heard that rumor for years.

meStevo 06-11-2009 09:58 AM

They really can't not cut the price, there aren't many (successful) consoles that just sit on their hands while they sell signifigantly less than they did the year prior. They've had to sit tight for now because of how strong the Yen has been against the Dollar.

Buck 06-11-2009 10:01 AM

They are still losing like $40 on each console even with selling them at $400.

Exactly. Everyone thought Microsoft was subsidizing this huge portion of their consoles in an attempt to get a larger marketshare. Now everyone realizes that they're pieces of shit and Microsoft is probably pulling a profit from them. They're trash. Flat out.

banyon 06-11-2009 10:24 AM

Is this one backwards-compatible?

Deberg_1990 06-11-2009 10:24 AM

Anything over $300 is too much for a gaming system.

Thats one of the main reasons the Wii has been so successful.

Not for PS2 games, only PS1...but who cares about that.

Really? It it only the 60gb that can play the ps2 games? That's pretty weak sauce.

The Original 60 GB has Hardware Backwards compatibility.

Thats when they had the 20GB and the 60 GB

The next set that came out was a 40 GB and 80 GB

That 80 GB had software emulation to where you could play some PS2 Games.

Every model that has come out since then does not have Backwards compatibility, including this one.

Mr. Flopnuts 06-11-2009 10:46 AM

I have the 40 gigger. I don't play old PS2 games so it doesn't really matter to me. But that sucks.

jidar 06-11-2009 10:58 AM

I have a PS2 anyway so I bought the cheaper one.

The thing has been rock solid for me while I've had one RROD on a 360 that I had to get replaced.
Of course it has about 20-30 hours playtime while my 360 probably has over 2000...

I have a good 1500 hours + on my PS3 (40 GB that I upgraded to 250 GB) and its fine.

I've pretty much heard that the original 40 GB model cant over heat. The fan thats in there is perfect for cooling it down.

It was one of the features Sony cut out of the newer models to get it down to the $400 price point.

The price is easy to justify and actually a pretty good value if you make use of the media center features and blu-ray.

The fan in my 80 GB (the successor to the 40 GB) isn't terribly loud. At least it's not the 360 which sounds like it is preparing for takeoff.

They did start out at a loss, but that isn't the case anymore, and has never been much of a secret like you imply.

They came out shortly after and said it wasn't to cut price, it was because the ~65 games was an adequate number on the market and that they wanted people to buy them, instead of buying PS2 games. They needed to start recouping development and early adopter money in the form of publishing/licensing fees and it wasn't happening.

The best game I've played on my PS3 is God of War 2, followed closely by the recently released inFamous.

I am sure everyone will get a chance to play God of War 2... when it's released on the PSN for more than you can get the PS2 version at Gamestop.

I am not offended, you can debate the merits of the different consoles without taking one extreme or the other is all. If Microsoft is eating people's children they wouldn't have sold 30 million consoles. There were problems, they made it right and are past them for the most part, and I am saying that as someone who's had their console replaced 3 times, and own a Wii and PS3 as well.

Mr. Flopnuts 06-11-2009 11:16 AM

I'm a total PS3 fanboy. I assumed you were an Xbox fanboy and I had upset you. I think the Sony has superior equipment and it's beyond me why anyone would buy a 360. JMO, and I admit it can be annoying at times.

Buck 06-11-2009 11:19 AM

I bought a 360 and after a month of it not impressing me and collecting dust, I sold it.

The only thing they have going for them is they have more games, which was a pretty huge deal a year and a half ago, but the PS3s library is more than adequate now.

How Xbox is still thriving with all of its broken consoles, really doesn't make sense. I guess a fanboy is a fanboy even if his console breaks 3 or 4 times.

Not to mention that the PS3 is a killer blu-ray player.

I own 2 PS3s and use one pretty much exclusively for watching Dvd's / Blu-Rays.

Don't get me wrong, to each their own. I just like my money so I'd never buy a console that has a 50-50 shot of taking a dump 6 months in.

The original Playstation was $300....14 years ago.

Oh, I'd totally fall into the 360 fanboy bucket, I can understand why people like the PS3, and once you've been burnt by the 360 and have invested in a Playstation it's a complete setup to make sure a customer never buys a Microsoft product willingly again.

I see your position, I was just offsetting some of the venom :). I just try to approach things a little more objectively so I'm not dismissed because of the side I am on. inFamous (PS3 exclusive for those who don't know) is probably one of the best games I've played this year, but it bums me out that it's not multiplatform so that the developer can't fill up a much larger bag of money for their efforts. The same goes for Killzone 2... which just hit 600k units in the US this past month, a relative flop for the title despite being the fastest selling 1st party title in the console's history (1m worldwide in it's 2nd month... what happened to 'over 1 million preorders in Europe?).
