How f'n stupid can you be?
So, late last night I'm sitting in bed doing some work & goofin' off on the net. Probably more goofin' off than work, but oh well.
As I go to bed, I set my laptop on the floor because nothing bad can happen in the middle of the night. At 4am, I wake up just enough to realize i'm moving rolling over. As I roll over, I - for some ****ing reason - decide to reach one arm out toward the wall. As my arm extends, I hear the distinct sound of a glass being knocked over and water pouring on the floor. I immediately popped up out of bed, grabbed my laptop seeing only a little bit of water on the screen. So I'm thinking "Man, that was lucky." As I disconnect the power cable, the computer just shuts off in a blink of an eye followed promptly by me yelling "****" waking up half the house. As I run to the bathroom to get a towel, I turn it on it's side and a couple ounces of water pour from the side. So, I've just spent the last hour & half pulling every ****ing piece of hardware that you can imagine and like 20-30 tiny ass screws out of it to open the damn thing up. Luckily, I didn't find any water on the motherboard and very little actually inside the computer. I did find some water around the battery and I also found a little bit inside, but very very little for what I thought. I've got the damn thing pulled apart drying out as we speak. Any other suggestions? So, how f'n stupid can you be? I think the answer is "This stupid." PS.... Whoever decided to make opening a laptop needed to be like opening a bank vault should die in a raging fire. |
I can be pretty ****in stupid as well... I left a full glass of Coke sitting next to my laptop several months ago... got up to go pee... my ferret climbed up and knocked it over right into the keyboard. I have a different laptop now... (thanks JazzzLovr)

I've heard that putting wet/damp electronics in the refrigerator for a few hours works pretty well.
|
Really, how many times can you use that statement in your life: "My ferret ruined my laptop." :D
|
You're not stupid, Plow. You're just slow. Now plug your computer back in and begin reassembling it. The electricity will help to dry it more quickly.
|
Oh yeah.....check this out.
My fiance had surgery...so she was laid up in bed for a couple of days. I give her my laptop to use so that she doesn't have to get out of bed and go to the office. She tells me last week that the keyboard isn't working on the laptop and the volume buttons are stuck. She won't tell me what happened....but I finally get it out of her that she laid it on the floor before she passed out....and she woke up and found our dog laying on top of the laptop. So now I'm having to pay $70 for a new keyboard....and I hope to god that fixes the problem. |

Edit... I left my car/work/apartment keys on the coffee table Saturday while I took a nap. I found them under the refrigerator Monday evening. OK NOW I don't leave anything on the coffee table. |

water probably won't hurt it. I had a water from a nice frosty beer mug leak onto my table and cause dmy laptop to crash. After about an hour it finally came back on. I hav never had a problem with water and electronics. Just coke and beer!
|
Had a co worker who's cat pissed on a 2 month old dell. They wouldn't work on it because of bio hazard. He even offered to pay MORE and they said "no thanks". I bet he could have found someone to work on it but dell wanted no part of it.
|
Where did he bury the cat?

Of course you have to account for cat logic"hmmm i have to piss...what is the most expensive thing in the room?" |

Dogs chew up stuff, slober and shit on the floor if you don't get them out enough and people put up with that so me and Coop will be ok. I just have to be careful what I leave where. Trade offs come with any pet. |
if the power was on, you might already be ****ed, but wait a week or so before reassembling it.

And speaking of refrigerators, that is what frazod was referring to. There is a thread in the archives somewhere about him waking up to a noise in the house and shooting his fridge. ROFL |

Ok. I got it now. I remember that. |
That's a joke. It will never dry in a fridge.
|
I poured a 32 ounce Royals mug right down the vent cover of my Dell and it was off but plugged in. Pulled battery immediately and took apart and dried with hair dryer. Waited 3 days, put battery back in... FOOBAR. Dell warranty replaced power supply, wireless nic, ram, hd and optical drive. Had 3 months left on warranty and got a new laptop at no cost...lol. All thanks to my trust Royals mug.

I once was using a work laptop to show some porn to a guy from the company (who had provided the laptop) and I dropped it and broke the screen.
When I was younger, at a heavy metal concert, I dropped a fifth of Jack Daniels just as I was running by a cop. I once had my eyes closed and walked into a lit exposed lightbulb, resulting in 2nd-degree burns on my tit. But, the stupidest thing of all.... I got married. Winner! :D |

Ok. I have used a small amount of air to make sure there was no water under the MB. I then put a small fan blowing on it constantly and used the wifes blow drier.
All looks dry. Recommendations on how long I should wait before putting the beast back together and trying to power it on? |
I had water get spilled on my laptop once, seemed within 24 hours it was okay again.
|
One trick that works for wet cell phones: Do not turn the power on, put phone/laptop parts in a box of dry rice. The rice draws the moisture out.

And no matter how dumb you may feel, you are smarter than this guy...

This is where you cash in on what I call the Sippy Cup Warranty. You know, the extra little warranty that you got from the store when you bought your laptop to cover the unforseen-like your toddler dumping her sippy cup on it, a ferret knocking Coke on it, and of course you knocking a glass of water onto it.
You did invest in the Sippy Cup Warranty right? |

I don't know if it's stupid or not, but I once challenged a girl to a dick-measuring contest when I was drunk.

Years ago I had a fish bowl on 36 inch CRT TV with one of those Betta fish in it. I have a inside/outside cat that never screwed with the fish. A step brother of mine was in the middle of moving and asked if I'd watch his cat. I thought sure, no problem. He brought him over and I later went out for the evening.
I get back home that night and noticed a half-eaten Betta laying on the floor in front of the TV. I look at the TV and noticed water streaks through the dust on the screen. The fish bowl was still on top of the TV, but now with half the water as before. I turn on the TV and nothing, no power what so ever. I was pissed at the cat initially but what could I do. I was the stupid idiot that put the bowl on the TV in the first place. He went back to my brother's the next day. |

Here's a great one from my wonderful, beautiful and generally very intelligent wife. This past Easter her and my daughter were going to color eggs for an Easter egg hunt. They bought all the dyes and mixed them and colored the eggs, they were very proud of their work. No one could argue that they were all quite pretty. The next day we went to hide them. One problem. Wife forgot the part where the eggs are boiled. Yeah, uncooked eggs on an egg hut for 5 y/o's.....not the best idea. Even smart people do dumb shit. I'm not posting mine. Way dumber than that. |
