Sorry if it's a repost but I didn't see it anywhere:

JEFFERSON CITY | The deal's done. Finally.

The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing their training camp back to Missouri - and specifically St. Joseph - following the approval this morning of a revised agreement by the Missouri Development Finance Board.
The team could open camp in St. Joe as early as next year.

The board had initially approved the $25 million tax-credit package last December, but it was held up for six months by Gov. Jay Nixon to work out disagreements over its terms.

Nixon is headed to the campus of Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph this afternoon to announce the final results of the negotiations.
Here's the deal:

The Chiefs will hold their training camp in Missouri for a minimum of 10 years, help build a $13 million training facility at Missouri Western and make about $50 million worth of improvements to Arrowhead Stadium and the Truman Sports Complex in Kansas City.

In exchange, the team will receive $25 million in tax credits.
Under an agreement with the university, the Chiefs are committed to train in St. Joseph for at least five years, although both sides have said they hope to keep the team there for much longer.

If the team does leave Western within 10 years, the agreement approved Thursday stipulates it must hold camp at another state university or at the Truman Sports Complex. If the club doesn't abide by this rule, it must pay back a portion of the tax credits it received.

The deal was thought to be settled in December, but upon taking office in January, Nixon questioned whether the terms presented to the board -- specifically the 10-year commitment to hold camp in Missouri -- matched those actually found in the agreement.

Arguing that they did not, Nixon directed the board and the state Department of Economic Development to reopen negotiations with the Chiefs to secure in writing the promises he felt were made to the board. Today's agreement, which essentially includes everything Nixon sought, is the result of those negotiations.

Good for them. The details matter.

Yep,and for any CP members who want a more comfortable stay Nzoner will have a couple of private rooms for rent.

talastan 06-18-2009 12:42 PM

I think it is exactly what we need. Granted the players and coaches will have to adjust their practices accordingly to make sure all the staff stays healthy as far as the heat goes. But the tougher enviroment will only make this team tougher IMO.

Agreed. This will make it much easier to do so.

What concerns me is having the players so close to the metro.
It's going to require more discipline.
But I suppose if there's one thing we can count on Haley for...it's discipline.

bsp4444 06-18-2009 01:12 PM

What about going against other teams?

I suppose they could set something up with the Rams.

Aren't they building this huge climate controlled bubble to practice in? Not that the players won't be subjected to more heat, but iirc, that was part of the deal to get them to come there.

For my money, you just cant plan a better vacation than beautiful St Joe Mo.

BarrySPAMAID 06-18-2009 01:49 PM

I will be attending this year, in honor if the last year at River Falls. I spend about 45 minutes on the phone with a friend of mine talking about the trip. I will be there from July 31st to August 7th. We are leaving the morning of the 7th since family fun night is the 6th. I just cant wait. As far as Saint Joseph, most people that I have talked to that have went to River Falls every year, say that they are going to miss it.

Stewie 06-18-2009 01:54 PM

From what I read it will be a couple of years in St. Joe and then to Arrowhead with no penalty.

gblowfish 06-18-2009 01:56 PM

This is good for the state of Missouri, especially with the Chiefs getting taxpayer $$ for Arrowhead improvements.

Shag 06-18-2009 02:02 PM

Boo. TC was my only chance to see the Chiefs most years... :(

Micjones 06-18-2009 02:05 PM

I wanted to hit training camp this year, but it's such bad timing for me.
Can't wait until they're back home in Missouri.

KCChiefsMan 06-18-2009 02:06 PM

cool, maybe I'll go to one

MMXcalibur 06-18-2009 02:07 PM

Bringing training camp closer to my residence = fine by me.

Molitoth 06-18-2009 02:17 PM

YAY I can be at training camp in 2 minutes.

I'd love for the training camp to be closer... but not located at an MIAA conference school. The new facilities and the Chiefs presence are definitely going to give Missouri Western a recruiting advantage. As a dedicated Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat, I am sickened by the thought.

Tulsa has a much cooler climate

cmh6476 06-18-2009 05:25 PM

Fock worryin about whether the Chiefs are gonna be in trouble bein so close to the metro. Do you know how many Chiefs are going to be cruising the belt chubby chasin? Nothin good can come of that.

Mo Western does quite well for themselves in local recruiting already. They've underachieved big time in recent seasons, but that doesn't change the fact that they have and continue to get talent.

I just don't want to see ANY advantage or ANY improvement for Missouri Western. **** all ya'll. :p

To top it off, Maryville, as a town, is somehow less charming than Buffalo.
