Fire alarm in my house just went off
Got up, spent 20 minutes searching the house for smoke/fire - never found any. Very faint smell of smoke or something.
Now, can't sleep thinking I've missed something somewhere and the whole house is going to burn down. |
Is it an electrical smoke smell?
|
I wish you the best, bro.
|
Safe thing - call FD. They're just playing cards anyway. Explain the situation to Dispatch and they'll send one engine first.

Checked the furnance & water heater. Checked all the outlets. Just can't find anything substantial enough to prove it wasn't just a fluke. |

Your tax dollars cover these situations. Call them for peace of mind.

Dryer.

At least your house isn't haunted!!
|
I had to remove the fire alarm in my house because it went off all the time because I am smoking hot!

If you think you can still smell it after about 10 minutes, then the fire department is definitely worth a call.
|
just burn the house down.
|
Maybe you just need to change the batteries...
|
You should take your fire extinguisher and spray your smoke alarm.
|
So, are you still with out Mr. Plow?
|
Damn dude, hope everything is OK.
|
**** the noise...

Mine goes off when I light the oven and I can't smell anything. But cigarettes don't set it off.

I see Smed's off the wagon again. Too bad we can't hook a breathalyzer up to his computer.

Glad you managed the situation without shooting any major appliances.

Exactly what I was thinking. Smed seems to take posts that he is going to make in 4-5 different threads and then combines them into 1 post in a thread he wasn't going to respond in. |
Also, everything was fine. Never called the FD....probably should have. Just didn't want to drag anyone out at 1am for something that I wasn't sure was even there.
Stayed up until about 3:30a with no other issues and then slowly fell asleep. |
check your wiring in your attic... we just had a house burn up in town.. the guy who owned it thought he could smell smoke for 3 days.. he just couldnt find it... turns out some wires in the attic were slowly smouldering (sp?) and they eventually got some air and took off...
worth a shot if you have an older house/older wiring.. |
Thanks. I will do that as soon as I get home tonight.
|
Did you check the front door for bags of flaming poo?

I don't know which is more disturbing. Smeds incoherent posts, or the fact that you were able to figure out what the hell he was rambling on about. I think I speak for most of us, when I invite you to be the "official" Smed to english translator from this point forward. |

Did you just recently fire up the AC, if I go without running the heat/AC for a while, the dust settled in the ducts kick out and set off the smoke detectors. |
