NFL Rumors: Vick to possibly back up Cassel

Anybody have access to ESPN insider? If so, please post! There is a link on the front page of ESPN. Of course it's probably just what it says though, a rumor.

ChiefsGirl 08-07-2009 08:33 AM

FREE AGENCY: Two jump in for Vick?
Michael Vick | Falcons | Interested: Packers? Patriots? Ravens? The Titans, Ravens and Chiefs might be the only teams interested in signing Michael Vick. That's what ESPN's John Clayton said on ESPN Radio's Brock and Salk when pressed about NFL teams' interest in the troubled quarterback. There was no mention of the Packers or Patriots, which is contrary to prior reports. The Packers have had "legitimate discussions" of signing Michael Vick, sources told the Wisconsin State Journal. But GM Ted Thompson hardly made it seem like they were this interested when he said he was open to the possibility.

Also, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said he'd be open to the possibility of bringing in Vick, although Pats owner Robert Kraft said he has no interest.

60% of the time, it works every time....

I think Vick would be lucky to back up Matt Guttierez at this point.

He's a Raider.

The deal is done...:)

Warrior5 08-07-2009 08:41 AM

Piss on Vick.

Ohmylord 08-07-2009 08:57 AM

I can see how he'd like it here after all that time in Leavenworth.

Sure-Oz 08-07-2009 08:58 AM

Only reason they say this cause the chiefs havent commented out right to say no to vick....

ArrowheadHawk 08-07-2009 09:08 AM

If Cassel is as good as they say we have no need for vick. Charles can handle our wildcat formations just fine.

topher79 08-07-2009 09:10 AM

What if he was brought in as an emergency quarterback (#3) but his primary duties were kick and punt returns with a handful of special offensive packages?

Frazod 08-07-2009 09:11 AM

I'd take him over Brokie.

Of course, I'd take Hagans the Option Midget over Brokie at this point.

The Bad Guy 08-07-2009 09:13 AM

I'd take him.

He's a weapon. Line him up at WR, move him around, run the wildcat.

This offense needs weapons.

Simply Red 08-07-2009 09:20 AM

is this some sort of sick joke?

jAZ 08-07-2009 09:32 AM

this. Vick has always been one of my favorite players to watch.

Mr. Krab 08-07-2009 09:43 AM

We would be the king of the mobile QB's.

Cassel
Vick
Thigpen

Dr. Johnny Fever 08-07-2009 09:47 AM

I think it would be awesomely hilarious for Vick to sign with the Chiefs, Cassel goes down injured and Vick leads us to a SB championship. So many people would turn from haters to lovers and probably choke on themselves over it.

I personally don't care what happens with him I just think it would be funny in a twisted sort of way.

I agree. I don't condone dog fighting but he didn't kill a person. He went to prison, behaved well, followed the rules and now he's welcome back into the league imo.

Rooster 08-07-2009 09:49 AM

I honestly can say that I have no desire for him to be a Chief. He deserves a second chance just not with my team.

Iowanian 08-07-2009 09:53 AM

He should sign with Cleveland. He could wear the Dogpound mask instead of a helmet

Leonard Little, Ray Lewis have been involved in the death of People.....and play in the league without consequence at this point.
Stallworth got drunk and killed someone, did far less time, and he'll probably get back in the league....

Vick financed and killed dogs. not people.

Especially not with my team.

This team needs to stay focused, they don't need this kind of distraction over a guy that might see 3-4 plays a game, at best.

The guy has been out of football for 3 ****ing years, yet people expect him to just step right in and make an impact.

The only impact he'll make anytime soon is a negative one - PR/media circus, and a huge distraction.

That's not worth 3-4 plays of a guy who been out of the league this long, IMO.

MahiMike 08-07-2009 10:14 AM

I'd only take him if he could catch. Sounds like Haley's still looking for another WR.

They have. Pioli said straight out in a recent radio interview that we'd have no interest in Vick.

BigVE 08-07-2009 10:47 AM

As a situational type of player I would welcome him. I can think of MANY players that I would want less than Vick.

BigVE 08-07-2009 10:49 AM

And what about another angle on this....would Pioli try to sign just to get KC more attention? They sad bad press is better than NO press, which is what we have had for years.

LaChapelle 08-07-2009 11:05 AM

He'll find work when the #1 QB goes down some where. Then again I think Brokie and/or Thigpen could too if/after cut.

Hootie 08-07-2009 11:07 AM

I don't see where he'd fit in...but KC is a good place for Vick...our fans are a pretty forgiving bunch. Shit, Larry got a chant last year at Arrowhead after he ran for 198 yards against Denver and all you cynics hate that mother ****er.

topher79 08-07-2009 11:09 AM

Return game. Return game. Return game.

crazycoffey 08-07-2009 11:17 AM

don't care one way or the other, don't really want him, but if he came cheap, STFD and STFU does whatever is asked of him, worse case he shows some improvements fairly quickly and we turn him for a draft pick somehow, or he plays some Offensive WR and Return game (like we aren't lacking in that department) but if it's just a rumor and we don't go after him, no heartbreak here.

Demonpenz 08-07-2009 11:20 AM

I think he would suck as a returner sure it is easy to run when all the db's are running away from you. No way he comes here though, because I would like it too much. So I know it won't happen

Demonpenz 08-07-2009 11:21 AM

Yes, but dogs are nicer than people. They're more trustworthy, less deceitful, more loyal, and usually don't deserve to be mistreated or abused.

It would nice to get Vick just to get the attention from the Media. But, on the other hand, i want Cassel to feel like this is his team. With Vick there, everyone will be screaming for him to start. It would be terrible. Talk about screwing up team chemistry.

But, if we did sign him, and he shows that he can still play, i wonder what his trade value would be worth at that point.

Blah, he'll probably be a Viking.

Just saying, hed be a backup that gailey could use a few times a game for creativity. Gailey + vick would be amazing. Then we could flip thiggy for a 3rd or 4th. It is a scenario full of win! Who better than haley to drive vick to his potential? Why not pick up a competent backup qb that you can also utilize a few times a game? Who better to use vick than gailey?

I hate that swapping QB's out shit. Cassel Can run well enough. I would rather Cassel just stay in and develop a rhythm. And there is no way we get a 3rd or 4th for thiggy. No way

Yes, but now you're opening up a different debate. Stupid, IMO, also does not deserve abuse, be it dogs or people. At least, that is, 'stupid' in terms of 'uneducated' or 'simple'. Dogs don't know what cars are; it's not their fault we drive them recklessly and hit them.

However, 'stupid' also has a negative connotation. The following 'stupid' people would be eligible for my Octagon Cage Match Of Death:

- people who get in the "10 Items" line with 45 items
- people who like to play their car stereo at 159 decibels, usually at night
- Raider and Bronco fans
- child molesters and child-porn freaks
- the Shamwow guy
- people who talk loudly on their cellphone in movie theaters
- anyone who wears an earbud wireless cellphone headset and isn't immensely important
- people who wear revealing bikinis or Speedos and clearly shouldn't be
- fat girls who feel the need to wear a thong and a half-shirt
- people who complain about things they shouldn't complain about
- ass-kissers, backstabbers, and similar types of co-workers you despise
- people who need 10 minutes to make up their mind at the fast-food drive-thru or walk-up counter
- anyone who goes into a Starbucks
- anyone who refers to themselves in the 3rd person
- Simon Cowell
- Islamic terrorists
- almost all politicians
- people who, by way of greeting a stranger on a 98-degree summer day, say, "Hey! Hot enough for ya?"
- Dane Cook
- bad drivers
- Obsessive Twitterers who actually think we give a f**k what mundane task they're doing right now
- Brett Favre

I'm sure I'll think of some more.

ESPN is really a piece of work. They can make up their own news when they feel like it. I never trust ESPN's "anonymous sources". I'm not saying it's all crap, but when they need news they can hypothesize and theorize all they want and "form it" into news.

Thigpen is so competent that he went from starter to fighting to make 3rd string. Hell, Brokie probably has more trade value.

Don't buy into the hype that the Media fabricated just to make Chiefs fans feel like they have a player worth watching.

I think he read the KC Star all the time in the Leavenworth joint... and I always felt like he would be a strong possibility to come to KC... once we signed/traded for Cassel, I wasn't so sure.

But he would be a good to have on the team, for sure.

Dude, the media has a history of playing a strong role in forcing the hand of orgnaizations. The moment Cassel has a 3 int game or the Chiefs aren't winning, the Media will be calling for Vick and the fanbase will follow shortly after. We don't need Cassel and Haley answering Questions about Vick every week.

Competent backup in what system?

What team is going to completely change their entire offensive philosophy for a backup - and give up draft picks to do so?

Sign Marcus Vick as well, we can have a brother combo like Keith and Kerry Cash!11111
