What did you think.. those of you who went to the game tonight?

RustShack 08-15-2009 11:28 PM

It looked way tight on the justin.tv feed from the game.

THEY HAVE URINALS IN THE BATHROOMS!!!1!

UsualSuspects 08-16-2009 01:00 AM

R.I.P.

Troughs.

tomahawk kid 08-16-2009 06:41 AM

I thought it was phenomenal.

The concourses seemed more like triple the size rather than double. The sound system is a 150% improvement, as is the number of concession stands and restrooms (yes, the horse troughs are gone).

The game presentation and the product on the field still need a little help, but I came away pretty impressed......

chiefqueen 08-16-2009 07:29 AM

On rainy daus/nights the flashes created by the ribbon board may make it appears that a lightning just struck. There were a few instances last night when we thought it was lightning and it was actually the ribbon board. (Until we were driving home and it was actually was lightning.)

LaChapelle 08-16-2009 07:35 AM

On tv, that ribbon board looks like it could take some getting use to.

At night Or overcast games it can be a distraction becauase of the "lightening" effect. But over all it a nice feature. Stats, updates, and few other things they have done. New scoreboards are great!

Also if you really miss the troughs in the bathrooms there are still some on the back side of the bathroom in section 322.

Boring, all the upgrades must be on the club level. Nice bright screens wider concourses and urinals in bathrooms. This is all you get for $350,000,000? wow I think $2 mill should cover the video, wheres the rest?

I was wondering about that, hopefully they will have some troughs. 77,000 thousand people waiting for a urinal to free up could be a disaster.

Dave Lane 08-16-2009 08:00 AM

There are about 50 per bathroom

What did you expect?

Fireplaces and power windows in those suites cost money.

It benefits all of us!

I agree. The only thing i really liked were the wider concourses. Also I really hate how they dont show the down and distance on the ends along with time outs left, and time left in the quarter, etc. It's going to take some getting used to. the down and distance indicator is VERY small, and only in one place on the side of the ribbon board.

I wasn't at the game, but on TV at least, I'm not sure I like the new ribbon board ...

Pablo 08-16-2009 10:29 AM

I almost had a seizure when the Sack animation came on.

I'm sure it wouldn't be nearly as bad if it were daylight out; but holy tits it almost hurt my eyes. I will say, the ribbon board and display aren't as overkill as the ones at the K though.

It's not even actually on the ribbon board, it was on the smaller scoreboard above it.

I like the ribbon board and the concourses. Took a little getting used to at first. And the bathrooms are huge. It is gonna take getting used to looking across instead of to the side to keep trak of the score, yard, down, time, etc.

Just think what Arrowhead will be like with 77k fans, loud music and that ribbon board. I think it will give us an ever better home field advantage.

And for the dude who thinks 2MM could have covered it, you must have never done or paid for any major construction. I rented an LCD video display which was 20 or 30 feet high by 50 feet for a project i was working on and it cost 100k or something crazy. Now thats tiny compared to what the new video boards and ribbon are in KC.

the concourse onto side was no bigger at all.

Sully 08-16-2009 01:58 PM

Concourses on upper deck home side were the same size. Bathroom by my section was still a trough. I was disappointed in that. Otherwise I was impressed.

stevieray 08-16-2009 03:47 PM

the lower level will benefit from the more enclosed layout during the cold games (ie wind)

all entry and exits are guided to the corners via the spirals..and spirals are smoking areas...it is double and triple wide in certain parts..ribbon board does take getting used to..but it's cool...flatscreens under the overhangs..you can tell the bottom bowl lost some seats, but it's not that noticeable

too much emphasis and overkill of the same cheerleaders...

Bugeater 08-16-2009 04:29 PM

The Dynamic Ribbon & upper scoreboard. I didn't care for the black background of the scoreboard, with the grey shading they used it reminded me of Raiders colors.

Yeah, I sat in it until it started coming down heavy, then the "**** this shit" attitude kicked in. I spent the rest of the night walking around the lower bowl, just checking the place out. As mentioned, it's very cool they have upgraded their beer selections. Couldn't believe how many Blue Moon taps there were!

I didn't even tailgate this time, and it's a good thing I wasn't intending to. They have GOT to fix their parking procedures before the Raiders game. Cluster. ****. I literally sat at the gate for twenty minutes.

Lot N ran out of parking spots, and all the knobs pretending to be parking attendants were completely lost with knowing what to do. That said, there was a TON of reserved parking available, so getting a parking pass may be a bit more of a priority this year.

We got into a pretty big argument with a couple of the parking crew supervisors for going to where we've tailgated for years. Absolutely no common sense with what they were trying to do. Once the head guy showed up, it got cleared up. But when I asked if I was going to have to fight with them every week, he said probably.

Yeah, it was bad. Do you guys usually park on one of the grassy areas? My buddy has a parking pass, but always parks on the island between G and N. They had him talk to the on area supe before they would let him drive back up to the place he's parked for 20+ years. Just frickin ridiculous.

Sully 08-16-2009 05:45 PM

We park in a lot, but over to the side, in actual spaces. It isn't as if we were taking up a spot in the middle of the lot, which I understand wouldve screwed up the traffic flow. And the group I tailgate with has been there for a couple of decades, as well.
I really understand them trying to keep it orderly and easy for the crew, but for an organization that prides itself as the beat place to tailgate in the world, a little common sense wouldn't hurt. I guess once you give a guy a jacket and a golf cart, that power can become a little heady.

GoHuge 08-16-2009 06:05 PM

Hey to those who went to the game? How are the stadium improvements?

We could see a couple here an there on the TV, but one thing I did notice is the same old shitty music... Crazy Train, Black Betty? R u freaking serious? Time to upgrade the lame ass shit they pass off as music...

How were the rest of the upgrades? Bathrooms better?

tooge 08-17-2009 07:58 AM

I sit upper level, and I thought they were great. The concourse was probably 10 feet wider, and there are gonna be restrooms on both sides now. They also added a "beer garden" sort of area that is really wide right outside of our tunnel that looks like it is gonna have a bar and food service. I'm pleased.

Priest31kc 08-17-2009 08:08 AM

Seriously? What do you want them to play? Shitty radio pop music? Yeah lets hear some awful T-Pain song to get us pumped up!!! I think it was the speedo. I can't believe they played the Thong Song...lol.

ZootedGranny 08-17-2009 09:09 AM

Impressions:

-Fellow CP'er DigitalTakawira and I have seats in 303, and the first thing we noticed was during the walk from Lot L. We come out of the tunnel (speaking of, they didn't extend the renovations to that tunnel. It looked like the rape tunnel from Irreversible after a nuclear bomb went off inside of it) and hear Cam'ron's "Let Me Know" absolutely blasting. We're walking towards the stadium trying to see what vehicle was playing it, and then realized it was coming from the new speaker array. We enter the stadium, catch T.I.'s "What Up, Whats Haapnin" and "Swagga Like Us." Even as fans of ignorant rap music, we were surprised to hear those tracks.

Sure enough, about 30 minutes before kickoff, they switched to the buttrock we're used to, and if you think "Back in Black" was ear piercing on the old system, wait until you hear it on the new setup. I haven't listened to the radio today to hear other people's impressions, but I expect a ton of people to complain about how loud they had the music playing.

-As far as the video boards, they are quite nice, but at least in this case, they were shooting 4:3 content, so replays were bracketed by either ads or a simple logos. Prerecorded content, like messages from the players and promo material took the width of the boards.

-The new intro video is a catastro****, featuring some Lawnmower Man-level CGI showing two bootleg Transformers fighting each other.

-KC's Wolf's thong looked more like a fully loaded diaper.

-The Ring of Honor on the ribbon boards just wasn't cutting it for me. Flashing the players in between ads and sack dance animations just isn't the same.

-Patti DiPardo's rendition of the National Anthem was ****ing terrible. Apparently that was her revenge for getting rid of the TD Pack Band.

-We did a brief walk through of the lower levels, and it was pretty much what I expected. Wider concourses, new restaurants, so on and so forth.

-Our side of the upper level looked exactly how I remembered it, even down to it being a madhouse just before and just after the game.
