Vrabel a good pickup

He may be on the tail-end of his career, but I think Vrabel will prove to be a great pickup. He has clearly taken over the leadership role on defense, and the guy is simply where he is supposed to be all the time. It was so nice to see a LB where he was supposed to be on a bootleg. Not only that, but he played it perfect and stalled the play until help got there. And I'm pretty sure he tipped the ball that was returned for the TD. Solid veteran performance.

I agree, one of the few bright spots in that horrible game.

Mays and Beisel looked pretty good at the ILB spots to I thought on just first viewing. I am encouraged with the overall improvement in the front seven on defense. Not the Ravens or the Steelers yet, but still some nice additions along with the 2 rookies up front.

He'll earn his paycheck this year ..

Mays seems to have a hard time dropping back into coverage.

It's nice to watch a good football player as opposed to a team of young guys who don't know their responsibilities isn't it

JimNasium 08-30-2009 11:08 AM

I wonder if he'll get frustrated and hang it up after this season?

Could be so. I haven't watched it that close. But I love the way he defends against the run. And on first glance, we didn't appear to blitz much last night with the first unit, which allowed a bit of extra time for Hasselbeck to find receivers, which could have hurt Mays in the coverage area.

Vrabel did get a tip on that pass, as did Tyson Jackson at the line.

Don't worry he'll get accustomed to being a Chief soon. It'll take about 3 more games before he gets that blank stare .

bevischief 08-30-2009 09:49 PM

Isn't that what we said about Donnie Edwards last year at this time...

Dude, dropping into coverage is a fundamental aspect of playing LB. I love the way he's been around the ball on running plays, but he has to stop biting so hard on run fakes.
