Space station and space shuttle visible tonight after they've separated-8:37 PM CT

Just an FYI for the nerds.....

The space shuttle undocked from the international space station and is slowly decending towards a landing tomorrow.

Tonight they are both visible in the midwest at 8:37 pm central time. Here in South Dakota they will be flying directly overhead.

First one is the shuttle.

You can check where and when to look at your location here:

Very cool, that site you linked is awesome. You can enter your zip code, it calculates your coordinates and tells you what is flying overhead and when.
Thanks mlyonsd, the wife and I dig this sort of thing.

If you like this sort of thing try and not miss tonight. It's pretty cool to see the two flying together. I hope it's clear where you are....not a cloud in the sky here.

BigVE 09-09-2009 07:06 PM

I wanna check it out but I'm not quite smart enough to exactly figure out the coordinates they gave me: ISS

Should we see two images after they unhook?

Bugeater 09-09-2009 07:08 PM

I'll check it out, but the last time I saw the ISS it was just a light going across the sky, not real exciting.

Sounds like it...they listed seperate sighting times/coordinates for each of them.

Right, they've already separated.

BigVE 09-09-2009 07:11 PM

Cloudy here...mostly. Will see what I can see anyways.

They'll be the brightest thing in the sky. Just look to the west, that's where they will appear and they will be heading to the northeast. Moving pretty quickly, faster than a plane. I'm guessing the first 3 is how many minutes you should be able to see them.

It's always clear here (Arizona). Problem is it won't be quite dark when it passes over.

It's overcast here, I'll probably miss it.

Bugeater 09-09-2009 07:44 PM

Saw it perfectly here.

jeff h 09-09-2009 07:48 PM

watched it up here in Smithville.

Was still flying when they passed over Two Rivers, Wisconsin.

Very, very cool

mlyonsd 09-09-2009 07:49 PM

The shuttle is in a lower orbit and actually had a lighted tail here.

I've never seen that before. Cool stuff.

I missed it. Too much cloud cover.

BigVE 09-09-2009 07:51 PM

Saw 'em both, neato.

BigVE 09-10-2009 07:50 PM

Enters from the NW and exits NE here. This time they are 2 minutes apart.

BigVE 09-10-2009 07:55 PM

If I am reading it right it should be much lower/closer to the horizon tonight compared to last night.

googlegoogle 09-10-2009 08:03 PM

applet gives different times on 'next pass' and next sighting.

Pitt Gorilla 09-10-2009 08:16 PM

They were visibly separate the night before as well, just not as far apart as they were last night. If only I had posted a thread about that...

scorpio 09-10-2009 08:19 PM

Just saw it, very cool. Thanks for the heads-up.

cdirty 09-10-2009 08:24 PM

too cloudy tonite.

BigVE 09-10-2009 08:30 PM

Had a nice view tonight...next view is Saturday night.
