Tests show that controversial runner Caster Semenya is a woman ...and a man!

The 18-year-old South African champ has no womb or ovaries and her testosterone levels are more than three times higher than those of a normal female, according to reports.

The tests, ordered by The International Association of Athletics Federations after Semenya's 800-meter victory in the World Championships, determined she's a hermaphrodite - having both male and female organs.

Semenya could be stripped of the gold medal she won in Berlin last month and her competitive future is in limbo, according to Australia's Daily Telegraph.

The athletics governing body is also expected to advise her to have surgery to fix the potentially deadly condition, the paper reported. The IAAF would not comment on the results that have yet to be released.

According to a source with knowledge of the IAAF tests, Semenya has internal testes - the male sexual organs that produce testosterone.

Testosterone is a hormone responsible for building muscles and for producing body hair and a deep voice.

Confirmation of the test results is sure to stoke the controversy that erupted after the university student's sensational track triumph.

She has been embraced in her home country - where she was declared "our girl" - and appeared on a magazine cover after a feminine makeover.

"God made me the way I am and I accept myself. I am who I am and I'm proud of myself," she told You Magazine, which ran a photo spread.

"I don't want to talk about the tests. I'm not even thinking about them."

Wow. I had a dog named Stinky who was a hermaphrodite once.

I'm actually encouraged a little to hear this, because it might raise some awareness as to this issue.

kstater 09-10-2009 02:51 PM

Sucks for the girl, has to be pretty trying on her. All for something she didn't have any control over.

ElGringo 09-10-2009 02:53 PM

So the question that comes up, do we now need 3 different categories in sports? Men's, Women's and Hermaphrodite's?

Mr. Flopnuts 09-10-2009 02:53 PM

What a crock of shit.

Frazod 09-10-2009 02:54 PM

Big shock there. Not.

The Rick 09-10-2009 02:55 PM

it does pose that question, perhaps lines need to be drawn in some other way other than gender?

Sofa King 09-10-2009 02:56 PM

i'd hit it.

wait what?

No, because countries and athletes will do whatever it takes to win.. Not saying she did, but people will do it.. It is our nature..

like rip out their ovaries and uterus...I mean I hear what you're saying, but it's not like it's something that shouldn't be considered to at least look at what lines we are drawing because of a person's gender.

Toadkiller 09-10-2009 03:06 PM

She still qualifies as a woman , she is within the given guidelines for the sport.

The row over Semenya's biology has caused huge divisions — with South African politicians calling slurs she is a man "racist and sexist." Her birth certificate has the teen listed as female and urine tests showed that, despite her having higher than average male hormone levels, they are within the official limits for a woman.

KCChiefsMan 09-10-2009 03:06 PM

hermaphrodite
with your sexy lady bits
and your sexy man bits too oooh
even you must be into you ooh oooh

Fish 09-10-2009 03:07 PM

I don't know what to think. I mean on one hand, it took some balls for her to compete in the Olympics... But at the same time, with her condition she knew could have screwed herself at any time. If she got caught.

Tough situation...

If it gets her testosterone levels to normal I would agree.. If she wants to compete as a woman she needs the testes she has that give her all the extra testosterone and muscle building removed if she wants to compete with other women..

LMAO

That doesn't deserve a damn medal. It's all or nothing... crush the goods ftw or go home.

DaneMcCloud 09-10-2009 03:18 PM

I feel sorry for her but they should take her medal away.

It's an unfair advantage to the other girls that don't have balls.

JohninGpt 09-10-2009 03:19 PM

So, will the International Association of Athletics Federations tell her to screw herself.

Jilly 09-10-2009 03:19 PM

see, everyone forgets about the stepchildren until something like this happens

Simplex3 09-10-2009 03:21 PM

The testosterone levels fall with the range for women. What's the problem?

Are you guys advocating taking away medals from competitors that have physical attributes others can't achieve like lung function, etc?

Agreed. She is a woman and should keep the medals.

She's not a woman.

No ovaries, no womb. She has ingrown testicles.

That's a man, Baybee!

Jilly 09-10-2009 03:32 PM

OK...little bit of anatomy/biology for some of you. EVERY person starts out female.... what makes you male, if you are male, is that the ovaries drop down and become your balls, your clitoris grows to become your penis. The clitoris on the female is essentially the head of a penis....the shaft of a penis, the vagina. If a person has balls that haven't descended, then, she can't be male or female, thus the distinction, hermaphrodite......

Jilly, that's a myth. It's a fuzzy topic, but it's definitely known that the Y chromosome comes from the sperm. Sperm can contain either an X or Y chromosome.

Why would you assume that? I see nothing there with a link to such information, and the story claims that she/he could be stripped of her/his medal.

Obviously that's the take of the South Africa or wherever the post came from, I do not see a link.. But I bet she she ends up losing the medals and is banned from competing UNTIL the Testes are removed and her testosterone levels come down.. I guess I do not see how her hormones are high for guys but within guidelines of females that does not make sense, especially over scrutiny that male athletes receive with higher levels of hormones then normal??
