Russell Worst #1 pick overall ever?

God he is amazingly bad. If he was a seventh round pick he'd be home eating ice cream.

So worse pick ever #1 overall? I have to say that when I saw him get hurt I thought god no not right before we play them!!

Mr. Arrowhead 09-15-2009 08:02 AM

I wouldnt say ever, but he certainly is a bust

Bugeater 09-15-2009 08:02 AM

Wasn't Ki-jana Carter #1 overall? He blew out his knee in the preseason and I'm not sure if he ever played again.

Scorp 09-15-2009 08:02 AM

I like that he is versatile. He could play Center, Guard, and Tackle. You just don't find that kind of talent at the QB position. ROFL

LMAO

If not he's among 'em.

DaKCMan AP 09-15-2009 08:04 AM

There have been some recent terrible #1's: Alex Smith, David Carr, Courtney Brown, Tim Couch

Pasta Little Brioni 09-15-2009 08:05 AM

The game between OAK and KC at Arrowhead last year was the worst QB display I've ever seen and I'm talking about the QB play that day for both teams.

wild1 09-15-2009 08:14 AM

Maybe not the worst ever, but he will be among them before it's said and done.

LOL at the game against the Chiefs! 1 of 15 for 4 yards with 5 turnovers. Sorry JaMarcus, but I don't think that even YOU could match that stat line.

What have any of them got on Jamarcus Russell? Seriously. Did you watch the game. This is not some rookie isn't this year 3??

That doesn't count if JR was injured and never played it would be one thing...

Demonpenz 09-15-2009 09:51 AM

Dorsey's got to be up there

Mile High Mania 09-15-2009 09:52 AM

Well, I think JR is bad... but, Alex Smith isn't even starting so I'd have to give him a nod over JR as the worst at this point.

What about Tim Couch?

Ok I'm reeruned. I just wanted to post some of Leaf's terribleness and some of our dominance though!

The Franchise 09-15-2009 10:09 AM

It's between Tim Couch, Alex Smith and Jamarcus Russell right now.

RealSNR 09-15-2009 10:11 AM

I don't think Jamarcus Russell would make the team on the other 31 franchises in this league. And here he is starting.

The guy's not smart, not accurate, and has no leadership at QB. The best play he made last night (outside of the 57 yard TD pass to Murphy) was his BLOCKING on that one screen.

Maybe it's just because the Raiders screwed him up. Either way, he sucks ass.

notorious 09-15-2009 10:16 AM

Thank god they were stupid enought to let Garcia go. He is not amazing, but with Garcia last night they probably win.

I wonder why teams keep cutting Garcia? He has his horrific games, but plays pretty good most of the time. He must be a terrible practice player.

htismaqe 09-15-2009 10:22 AM

It's arguable that he's even the worst in recent history, given that Alex Smith and Courtney Brown are on that list.

If you go back all the way, there's some doozies on there like Steve Emtman and Aundrey Bruce.

If Russell didn't have that monster contract he would be cut right now he is horrible. The raiders are starting him because they have too. And Smith isn't great but compared to JR he's Joe Montana.

sedated 09-15-2009 10:29 AM

I watched quite a few LSU games when he was there, and have never been so shocked to see a guy taken #1 overall. He looked like a third rounder at best.

He's an excellent practice player; he's notorious for being one of the hardest-working QBs in the NFL. Think of him as the David Eckstein of NFL QBs. He's not very big, he's got a very limited physical skill set, but he busts his ass day in and day out, and he knows how to lead football teams. The problem is, so many coaches won't want a QB who plays such a scramble-based style, and on the Raiders, where the QB has to throw it deep a lot, he's not gonna be effective.

The Eagles made a great pick-up yesterday for their offense; he's a better QB overall than Vick, far less polarizing in the public eye, and the vets in that room know what he's about, and what he can do.

Alex Smith never really had a chance; he had a revolving door of coordinators and systems, had some devastating shoulder injuries, and no protection or weapons outside of Gore. And it's not like he sat back and just cashed cheques; he re-negotiated his contract to stay a Niner, and he clearly wants to do something to justify his draft spot.

Tim Couch > David Carr

CoMoChief 09-15-2009 10:51 AM

Alex Smith....Akili Smith, Tim Couch, David Carr etc.

Russell has better intangibles than all of them I would say.

But damn his accuracy needs to improve. but he throws a VERY pretty ball. ****in hand cannon of an arm. Like DV used to say. He can throw it through a car wash and not get it wet.

this is true. plus he lies to coaches about watching film.

Wasnt there a time where a coach gave him a blank dvd to watch film on and a coach asked if he had watched film and he said that he did watch it? LOL

I have not heard that but it would not surprise me at all. The guy is a dump and I get grief for saying that by the homers. He does not get it and he will not get it he is a wasted pick.

It wasn't David Carr's fault that his o-line was so piss poor he took more sacks in his first four years than a 2-dollar whore on a waterfront.

Russel's a fat, lazy MORON. To say that he has a 60 dollar brain implies that you couldn't get something better than that fat dumbass' brain for under 60 bucks, and I'm sorry, but that's just not true.

LaChapelle 09-15-2009 11:18 AM

He has got to be smarter than Vince Young.

If Carr was so good minus the Oline, he would have started somewhere else.

I think he was shell shocked after nearly being killed as a QB. Totally ruined him but I'd take him as a quadriplegic QB over Russell. I can't imagine why the raiders didn't let the backup stay in and at least give them a chance for a win.

Chief Faithful 09-15-2009 01:15 PM

I always thought KiJana Carter was both the worst and most unlucky. He was worst because after he recovered from his knee injury and played several more years he was terrible.

Wasn't ...uh....wtf is his name ? Taken by the Chargers, a QB taken ahead of P.Manning I think. If he was a #1 pick then it's hard to top his complete failure.
I can't believe I forgot his name. It's hell getting old. It'll probably come to me just as I hit the submit button.

Ryan Leaf should get the award just because of how much the Chargers gave up to get him. It's close enough to #1 to count.

Dave Lane 09-15-2009 01:26 PM

I think Leaf and JR are close to a push. The ONLY reason he is starting is the $ he got paid.

Not true Garcia wanted out. It's because he outplayed him all preseason but AL was going to start the dancing elephant regardless because of his outrageous salary.

The Browns had needed someone to take over for the veteran Otto Graham, but they soon discovered that Garrett had a liability as a quarterback: he stuttered, which made calling plays difficult.ROFL

KCCHIEFS27 09-15-2009 04:40 PM

Russell isn't THAT bad. He hasn't help his cause by being out of shape, but if there was any team that challenged us at having the worst coaching staff in the league the last few years, it'd have to be Oakland.
