Will we see blackouts this year?

Personally I think the blackout rule is stupid with the popularity of the NFL. That being said, will next week vs. the Cowboys be the last home game we see on TV for a while?

Simplex3 10-04-2009 09:32 PM

As it moves into winter I think we will. With that said, Clark punched this ticket the minute DV left town and he let Carl and Herm take over.

Coach 10-04-2009 09:32 PM

It's looking like the Chiefs/Browns game might be blacked out.

OnTheWarpath15 10-04-2009 09:33 PM

With as many empty seats as there's been the past 2 games, I'm wondering how they skirted the blackout rule to begin with.

kcpasco 10-04-2009 09:34 PM

Sadly I paid for Sunday Ticket

I wish the games would black out for me

I had a friend of mine text me and say the announcers said it was a sellout.

I've been to games that aired despite maybe 20K in the stands. The season tickets are sold tickets whether people show up or not... Unless something has changed recently, channel 4 probably bought whatever leftovers there were at a heavy discount. They comp tickets, as well. So they can "sellout" without literally selling all the tickets in the stadium.

Probably the biggest risks are Buffalo and Cleveland. The rest of the teams on the schedule are either popular franchises nationally or division opponents.

Dude, I've been told by 2 different people in the ticket office that the ST base now consists of 38K.

The place holds 79K.

You do the math.

EDIT: Saw your edit regarding comp tickets. They must be comping a shitton of seats weekly to stay on TV, because the numbers don't add up otherwise.

ChiefsCountry 10-04-2009 09:57 PM

Actually its at 75k right now. They are getting the big companies in KC to buy blocks of tickets. Some nerdy dude sat in front of me from Burns & McDonnell trying to figure out how much they spent on tickets from the ones listed in the program. I got a good inside chuckle at that since its not at face value when they do that.

Capacity, or the ST base?

I talked to 2 different reps the week of the Oakland game, and they both told me approximately 38K. Can't see why they'd lie.

Mojo Jojo 10-04-2009 10:23 PM

The Chiefs have given away many tickets for the first two games. The NFL only allows for a total amount of comps tickets over the season and the Chiefs are very close to that number after two games. Paid tickets for both games have been less than 65,000 per game and turnstile around 60,000 per game. Turnstile is people in stands, so with all the comps and paid tickets over 5,000 per game are not showing up.

Without TV stations or sponsors...blackouts here we come.

Not if he's outside the viewing area.

Not everyone here lives in KC.

ChiefsCountry 10-04-2009 10:34 PM

Well the Dallas and Pittsburgh game I doubt they have to worry about it. And if the Donks keep winning, all the Western KS and Oklahoma Donk fans will migrate east.

i guess what i meant was the blackout rule still applies just the same. if he were blacked out with out sunday ticket, he's blacked out with it too. something most chiefs fans don't realize cause we just never have to deal with it.

Mecca 10-04-2009 10:34 PM

Last home game of the year is the Browns...if there was ever a game to get blacked out.

ChiefsCountry 10-04-2009 10:38 PM

Bills the week before is a good shot as well.

FloridaMan88 10-04-2009 10:52 PM

Can anyone confirm if Clark was actually at the game today? I know he was at the home opener, parading his country club stiffs of a family on the field at halftime.

I paid good money to watch the Chiefs on the ticket. At least allow me to be as masochistic as I wish watching them. :harumph:

I'd like to hear his and Pioli's thoughts about these first four games.

He keeps bringing in more players and cutting players, what more does he need to say?

King_Chief_Fan 10-05-2009 07:23 AM

I would bet that we would see black outs.

I got caught up in the hype early and bought 2 pair of tickets for two different games.

After 8 minutes of watching this team against Philly and about 11 minutes watching against the Giants...I posted the tickets for sale. I was stunned to find out both sets sold.

people in KC have got to get a life until this team amounts to something.

Fat Elvis 10-05-2009 07:47 AM

Midway through the 3rd quarter yesterday, the Chiefs were blacked out in my home by Finding Nemo.

Shit, you lasted longer than I did.

Anybody know what the cancellation policy for Sunday Ticket is?

I will give them a little bit of credit though. They didn't appear to quit against the Giants and they did against Eagles.

I am not sure if that had more to do with the home vs road or what.

GoTrav 10-05-2009 09:27 AM

this sh1t is hard enough to watch for free on TV

If there are blackouts, at least some of us have the RedZone channel but too bad the only time you will see the Chiefs is when our opponent is scoring.

gblowfish 10-05-2009 09:32 AM

You can't see a blackout.
Ergo, the paradox.
There will be a quiz later.

keg in kc 10-05-2009 09:34 AM

If the chiefs lose a game and there's nobody there to see, does the loss really occur?
