This game is going to make me puke. So far Denver had 3rd and 14 at the 47 and threw a pass tipped by about 3 Patriots before it was caught by Denver for a first down. That drive led to a Denver FG.

Ghost missed a 40 yarder. I wouldn't normally point this out, but he's just the best kicker in the NFL, kicking in freaking Denver, and he already hit one from 53.

And Brady has two overthrows of Moss, one of which would have been a TD (tough pass though) and the other was an easy first down on a third down play (Randy was wide open) that would have put us in FG position.

I figured it would be close... I hate our kicker... the home kicker shouldn't miss a 48 yarder in Denver.

The defense is playing well for Denver and I like the production of the 'wild horses' formation. We'll see what happens.

The Broncos are way better than I thought, but I still think they are playing way over their heads. We'll see...

That would be frustrating, but Gostkowski is not the best kicker in the NFL.

Does every team have to play like ass against Denver? **** football these days. At least Im not a k-state fan....but I am a UT hater:(

It's the dumbest ****ing penalty in the NFL.

Pats get lucky. Denver forces a 3 and out deep in Pats territory, looking to get the ball back at the 50 or better. Running into the kicker! Pats first down.

We started stuffing the Wild Horses, so they stopped using it.

You've been spoiled by Elam. 48 is tough even in Denver.

Sometimes its chintzy, but the kicker really is completely helpless and exposed. If they allowed him to get hit, it might become a strategy to nail an opposing punter, especially if he was a good punter within your division.

All in all, it's been a rule since the dawn of time, and I really can't see getting rid of it.

They don't use it when Moreno is out... he was dinged up and is back, it's more him than what NE did.

:shrug: Sez you. He was 2008 All Pro player, Pro Bowler, and he has a tremendously strong leg, rarely misses, and has kicked very well in multiple playoff games. I certainly wouldn't take anyone over him.

Big stop by Denver. Nicely defenesd, I hate to admit. I hate that play call when it doesn't work, of course, but I've seen it work often enough to know I shouldn't complain.

I have no problem with roughing the kicker. That's a legit penalty if there is unnecessary roughness. However, I do think that a waft of air that changes the direction of his tampon string should not be a penalty.

Brady had all year. No pass rush by Denver without a blitz.

ST's may have cost Denver twice... on an ability to take advantage of GREAT field position, those are comeback killing mistakes.

Presumably you're not talking about this particular penalty, because the guy hit his leg spinning him around.

I agree that it does sometimes get called when it's the faintest of brushes. For good or for bad, though, the rule is clear. No touch.

I'm wondering about all these roughing the passer calls. Brady got a pass off earlier today when he was nearly wrapped up by DJ Williams, and I wonder if Williams didn't ease up on how hard he could have hit him because he was worried about the penalty. That isn't how football should be played.

I would most definitely take Rob Bironas over him.

It was running into the kicker, which is what happens.

5 yard penalty, but since it was 4th and 4 that made it a first down.

So far... offensively and defensively, I think Denver has answered some of their critics. The offense hasn't put up a lot of points and that stinks, but they've been productive.

Let's see how they close it out...

But now we're punting from teh 50 instead of our own ten, so the penalties definitely hurt them.

Kickers also do a great job of selling at times like that too... and theirs did a fine job.

Regarding the penalty.. Ya see the NFL has done a study and defenseless kickers have a higher rate of reerunation and bankruptcy after their playing careers are over, therefore, we must protect them.

Go back and reread all my posts. Did I say that it wasn't called according to the rule? No. Did I say there shouldn't be a roughing the kicker? No.

What I did say was that running into the kicker is a bullshit rule. I didn't say it was called incorrectly, I said it was a stupid ****ing rule. Look it up. ****.

I've seen some holding on the field by both, though I admit Denver has been more consistent and persistent with it. The refs have called it on Denver a couple times.

The pats got ****ed same as the chiefs with that forward progress bullshit.

Anybody see that play by Andre Johnson? Outstanding.

I like how the ruling on the field by the head ref was down by contact, but then after the flag it was down by forward progress being stopped. Nice that refs found a new way to cover their asses.

Just to be clear, given how I started this thread -- if the Pats lose after getting TWO new chances with the ball, and then giving the ball back to Denver at their 1 yard line, then they have nobody to blame but themselves.

That guy gets away with so much holding it is amazing. In his no sack season last year he went up against someone like peppers and wrapped his arms around him all game long.

You're correct, that call wasn't ROUGHING, it was running into the kicker. Roughing is 15 yrs. The call was correct, the rule is stupid.

IMO the taunting rule is bullshit just like a defender not being able to hit an offensive player anywhere including the head as long as it is with the shoulder pads is bullshit.
The pussification of the NFL is not a good thing.

That screen call by Denver early in their last TD possession was a great playcall by McDaniels (or his OC).

Dude, I know that. It doesn't change the fact that taunting (like holding) goes on during every play.

Throwing a huge flag like that in a critical part of the game doesn't make the game better. It takes it out of the hands pf the player. I just fundamentally disagree with those calls. Especially late in the game.
