Trades accelerate the cap hit.

I was just thinking about the 'trades' that may happen with the Chiefs. DJ would actually save the Chiefs cap space.

But, the trade for Dorsey would be a significant hit to the cap for the Chiefs.

Considering they are millions away from the salary floor, could this be a motivation?

If the Chiefs do not spend the salary floor, they can be penalized draft picks.

So, they can take the full hit from trading Dorsey and that probably puts them over the minimum.... and takes the pressure off of them trying to figure out how to spend the minimum extending the players they already have.

So, am I reaching here, or do you think it might play into it?

it's a stupid rumor ... wake me up when we hear anything from the Chiefs that Dorsey is on the trading block.

I just read the other day that being penalized a pick(s) is a last ditch response.

What would likely happen is that the Chiefs would take the $7M they are under the salary floor, and divide it amongst all players that were on the 53 man roster.

True... but I do have to wonder if these things factor in. I think the Chiefs are in a cash saving mode as the economy stinks, and they are mid renovations. Just a thought.

So, in other words, when he's traded?

Arrowhead has been locked down like Fort ****ing Knox since Pioli took over - you're not going to hear anything.

Okay, but that still costs seven million dollars. Dorsey had how many millions in signing bonus? Accelerate all of that, and they are out no more money.

I'd rather take that money and burn it than give it to any of "The right 53" shitbricks.

Um... I'm not one of "The right 53"... so, I will send you my address.

DeezNutz 10-13-2009 05:58 PM

The fact that we're far from the floor is pretty ****ing embarrassing really.

I think they go ahead and resign Cassel for 12 years and 450 million-that way they can put more off the street scrubs out there and stay away from the floor-lol

Its the Clark Hunt way.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-13-2009 06:10 PM

They don't distribute it among the final 53, I believe it is distributed among the final 75.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-13-2009 06:12 PM

FWIW, one of the guys who handled some of Lamar's money was busted for securities fraud, so maybe Clark is really strapped right now.

If I implied it was the "final" 53, then my mistake.

My understanding is that it would be divided amongst anyone that was EVER part of the 53 man roster at any time.

I could be wrong on that as well, but was the way I understood it.

Gotcha. That could be it too. I'm not entirely certain either way.

According to AP, it's split among anyone on the roster after August 1st.

The Hunt family sure knew how to pick associates.

Iowanian 10-13-2009 07:16 PM

It's a good thing the front office saved a cubic shit-ton of cap space......instead of you know, buying an offensive line...

That's what I was thinking. 7 million this year is a good start to a decent O lineman.

Instead we will just waste it on the pile of dogshit known as the "Right 53".

Trade accelerate the cap hit?

In other news, we've landed on the moon!

cowboysfan 10-13-2009 08:42 PM

Speaking for the Cowboys,we'll trade you former 1st round pick linebacker Bobbie Carpenter and a 5th rounder for Derrick Johnson. Any takers?
