Thanksgiving Day games

Isnt it time for the Cowboys and Lions to give up the home games on T-Day?

ChiTown 11-24-2009 02:52 PM

Agreed. I can't think of a football tradition that has over-stayed it's welcome more than that one. Move the games around, for ****'s sake.

Hell no. Its a football tradition! I don't care how much the Lions suck and the Cowboys are full of dumbasses, it should never ever change.

But it is nice that they added a 3rd game.

MichaelH 11-24-2009 02:52 PM

I wish they would alternate and break tradition. The only good game anymore is the night game on the NFL Network.

Molitoth 11-24-2009 02:53 PM

Nothing was better than watching Barry Sanders run all over on T-day... now watching the Lions is much less fun.

alpha_omega 11-24-2009 02:54 PM

No...i like the tradition (shouldn't this be a poll?).
What i don't like is having the evening game on a network that i (and a lot of others) don't get.

KCrockaholic 11-24-2009 02:54 PM

This should be a poll :)

BigMeatballDave 11-24-2009 02:55 PM

YES! The league really needs to look into different teams. Actually, I'd love to see them change it every season. I am bored to tears with Dallas/Detroit.

Demonpenz 11-24-2009 02:55 PM

My best memory was Barry Sanders running all over the place and Mike Utley Celebrating by popping a wheelie midfield

ROFL

shitgoose 11-24-2009 03:02 PM

What difference does it make. If they switched up the games it would just be NE, Pitt, or Indy every thanksgiving.

Easy 6 11-24-2009 03:03 PM

The Barry Sanders era was the last time that this matchup was worth a hot cup of Jack Squat.

New teams, please.

HotRoute 11-24-2009 03:08 PM

Think of the players of the lions/cowboys kinda crappy that they never get to spend thanksgiving with their families while the rest of the league only have to sacrifice a few.

I personaly don't like when my team plays on a holiday. To many other things going on, and I always miss something

cdirty 11-24-2009 03:17 PM

Got free tickets to the Dallas Jets game 2 years ago on Thanksgiving. Wore my Chiefs jersey with pride. It was fun but a blow out. it was pretty chilly, and they have the damn hole in the roof.

No. They did it when no one else would do it.

This is the truth.

mlyonsd 11-24-2009 03:40 PM

TDay is probably the only game the lion's get national coverage.

Molitoth 11-24-2009 03:43 PM

This calls for a new avatar.

Param 11-24-2009 03:43 PM

Since it's the Cowboys & Lions every year, I hardly watch anymore. Usually the late game is worth watching.

RJ 11-24-2009 03:52 PM

Yes, please.

I despise the Cowboys and the Lions have never been better than mediocre, at least in my lifetime. Top that off with my cable company not offering NFL Network, and Thanksgiving football is not much fun for me.

DBOSHO 11-24-2009 03:53 PM

What are the games and what time are they on?

Which is one too many.

Id much rather watch the lions on thanksgiving, than the browns on monday night

Stinger 11-24-2009 04:16 PM

It should be passed around the league. I believe Lamar even said as much .... Thus the reason we held the first Thanksgiving Thursday night game a couple of years back. Also I I can't remember if I heard or read it but GM put $$ into the coffers so to speak and thats how Detroit got it and kept it all these years.

Welcome to 2009....

Mojo Jojo 11-24-2009 04:24 PM

Truth be told...very few teams want to host a Thanksgiving day game. The reason the Chiefs got the first third game is that Lamar pushed for years to rotate or add a third rotating game. Every season when laying out the schedule teams list dates they can't or prefer not to be at home. Since the addition of the third game only about 5 or 6 teams have stood up to say we can/will host on Thanksgiving. For several years the NFL tried to get another network ABC, TNT, ESPN to pick-up the third game and they weren't interested. It took the NFL starting it's own network to make it happen.

38yrsfan 11-24-2009 04:37 PM

My opinion on this would be ... Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders!!!

Rain Man 11-24-2009 07:04 PM

I miss the days when it wasn't Thanksgiving, but rather The Barry Sanders Day of Football Worship.

ChiefsCountry 11-24-2009 07:10 PM

I think the third game should be an All-AFC matchup, I don't mind the Lions and Cowboys matchup but it would be nice to keep it even at 3 NFC teams and 3 AFC teams.

Frazod 11-24-2009 07:12 PM

Thanksgiving means two things - my mother-in-law's shitty mashed potatoes, and shitty football.

**** Detroit and double **** Dallas. God I'm sick of their Thanksgiving monopoly. And **** anybody who says "it's tradition." Bloodletting was a tradition once, too.

:cuss:

Good point. This being the AFL season and all.

DaKCMan AP 11-24-2009 07:33 PM

No. I like the tradition, and honestly if they rotated it the Chiefs wouldn't get picked anyway. At least with DET/DAL, the Chiefs have a chance at getting the game 2 out of every 4 years.

Dylan 11-24-2009 07:41 PM

I hate the fact that a team has only three days to prepare == but I like the fact that after the game, they have eight days off.

Rain Man 11-24-2009 07:49 PM

Perhaps as a compromise between tradition and fairness, they could rotate it among teams, but the teams would have to wear the Lions' and Cowboys' uniforms that day.
