Anyone here with good knowledge about computers?

Was wondering if anyone can help, my computer has serious issues. Im suspecting it may be infected.

Its very weird how it operates. My computer plays random sounds at times. It does it by itself. There are times when I'll hear music playing in the background, or some commercial ad will come up randomly. Or, I'll hear people talking, etc. What could this be? Im dying to get rid of it, it's so frick'n annoying. There are times I want to tune into youtube, and then these stupid sounds pop up.

*any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Maybe its haunted? Poltergeist? j/k

Seriously, sounds like you have some funkyness going on.

Do you have antivirus?
What OS are you running?

Usually, when crap like that goes on when I see a PC, I backup the data and reinstall the OS.

Save all the shit you want to a flash drive, format your hard drive and do a cleab install. After 7 years, it's likely due for that anyway.

Serious? There's still people that don't run anti-virus?

AustinChief 11-27-2009 12:16 PM

AVAST antivirus / malwarebytes / Trojan Remover (by simplysup software)

Those 3 will clear MOST anything that could be the problem.

The hard part will be getting them to install on an infected system.. if you can get them installed and UPDATED... then running them should fix ya up.

Deberg_1990 11-27-2009 12:20 PM

Nope. No one on this board knows anything about Computers. Try Best Buy.

Bad advise. Redthat doesn't seem to be tech savvy. He could lose some "stuff" due to human error.

It's likely a malware spybot of some kind. The tools already mentioned are idiot proof and easy to run and will automatically find and kill the bots.

smash it to pieces with a hammer and buy a new one

that is how I am going to fix mine-lol

Try to restart you computer in Safe Mode.

If you can do that you are half way there, connect to the internet and download the protection programs called for earlier.

Run each of those in Safe Mode. I would say that should take care of issues. Anytime you feel you have a problem with your system I'd recommend downloading new virus definitions while in the Safe Mode. My current computer came with McAfee (less than great AV software) but for a while it would do automatic updates. All of a sudden it stopped updating, windows stopped updating. I couldn't get it to load manually either, whenever I connected to their website IE shutdown. Didn't have that problem in Safe Mode and was able to clean the system up. I eventually removed McAfee and loaded the free version of AVG. It's stopped everything that has tried since. I use it on both XP systems and Vista. Haven't tried Windows 7 yet.

If you file a police report that vandals did it will they replace your computer? ;)

ChiefsCountry 11-27-2009 01:04 PM

First I would go to this:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.aspx
Its free and it will remove all the junk from your computer.

Then go and install this - Microsoft Security Essentials. Its a free anti-virus program that works really well, plus its free.

this ... everyone should be running programs for:

Antivirus (AVG or AVAST)
Malware (Malwarebyte)
Spyware (spybot and spyblaster and winpatrol, i run all of them)
firewall (comodo or zone alarm)

All the above are free and quality programs ... google search for the free latest version to download.

i don't use IE ... so i understand but you still should be running something just in case.

The problem is that Hackers can use your PC to attack others so you might not notice anything.

AVG is a solid free antivirus that doesn't take up many resources.

Yeah well honestly I only use my pc to stay up with windows so I can help my boys with their stuff at school.I did have pc tools anti virus on it before but I rarely use it anymore.I run snow leopard on all of my macs and so far a add on anti virus doesn't seem needed.I guess maybe I should put something on the pc though....

^ I've noticed

To the original poster, when you say you get random commericals/ads, are they occurring when you search for movies and such? If that's the case then you have malware most likely a variation of the vundom (sp).

Now the voices over the internet could be a caused by a nasty virus, or somebody nearby playing Dress up as a Cop.

My recommendation is that you either install linux, or only use Windows when not looking at p0rn. LOLz

I hate when puter n00bs ask for help like that. A back handed insult.Next time just ask for help instead of trying to "challange" people. That shit works for sales people not IT people.

One thing PC users can do that Mac users can't:
http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/1200/stfu2.jpg

Ever notice how most Mac users are skinny? It's because of all the calories they burn because they can't shut the **** up about how great their Macs are. What is it about Apple that makes its users unable to shut their mouths? Everywhere I go, there's another asshole with a Mac preaching about how much better Macs are than PCs. They regurgitate lines directly from Apple's marketing campaign, like "it just works." I have the following rebuttals to this argument:

1. If everything on a Mac just works, then why does a website called "Mac fix it" exist, assholes? Here are a few choice topics on macfixitforums.com:

-Login window stuck!
-lower caSe "S" key not working!!
-Menu bar keeps flashing
-I can't drag and drop!

Waaaah, boo hoo! I can't drag and drop! Dumbass. Looks like your Macs aren't perfect after all, which leads me to my second point:

2. **** you.

I don't know why Mac users get so defensive when you call them idiots. I mean, Apple is a company that has built its entire user base around the fact that its users can't do simple things like turn their computers on. Hell, most Mac users can't even talk without using their hands, which ranks their intelligence somewhere between a simian and hog shit:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4Tq7yykR-DM&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4Tq7yykR-DM&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Stupid user base aside, I will never own a Mac. It's not so much that I'm a PC loyalist. I'm not. It's that I'm not stylish enough to own one. Most iPod commercials feature guys with long hair, chicks roller skating, and guys wearing fedoras. I have dandruff, and I buy most of my jeans from a grocery store. I feel like in order to have a Mac, I need to be:

# An artist.
# In a band.
# Unemployed (see above).

After the recent Apple conference, Mac fans were elated. One person was quoted as saying "I've had a Macintosh now for a total of 35 days, and I'm really excited to be part of the Mac community." Part of the Mac community? It's a computer, not a social movement, asshole! I feel like Apple is not just selling computers, they're selling a way of life, and I'm not ready to be that heavily invested in a product. I think this parody helps illustrate Apple's unspoken message:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JixbzFjv_cU&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JixbzFjv_cU&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

iTunes is the new Real Player:

In doing research for this article, I decided to reinstall iTunes, a program I hadn't used since version 4 (now on 7). Here it is, just working:

http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/2526/ituneserror1.gif

Back in the late 90s, everyone used Real Player. Then those cocks at Real Network got greedy, and tried to get their application to take over your entire PC, and people stopped using it. Same thing is happening with Quicktime now. You can't install Quicktime anymore unless you download bullshit iTunes. This section was supposed to be longer, but I couldn't even install iTunes so I could bitch about it. Not that I could have used it for what I wanted to anyway:

From the actual iTunes End User License Agreement.

http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/5789/eula.gif

If I want to manufacture biological weapons with my copy of iTunes, I will, fascists. Ditch this bullshit.
