Thanks to the CP founders.

Now well over a year into retirement I have been able to interact more with this board. As the season and 2009 Chiefs mercifully come to a close, I wish to give a great big thank you to those folks with insight, talent and devotion to bring such a wonderful experience shared by so many.

It’s an extraordinary site that no doubt has become a valuable source for so many ideas that are read elsewhere. I find a variety of information at my fingertips without tedious web searching.

But along with this come some pretty useless information, sophomoric threads and those who love to be contentious. It is easy to ignore those threads as well as just ignore those who turn good threads into name-calling brinkmanship.

I would challenge anyone to produce a better sports board than the Chiefs Planet. Sure there a good ones out there but only close seconds at the most. The board is well managed and allows a lot of freedom and latitude. A good contrast is the donky board. The clash of colors sets the stage for an Orwellian experience. There are some good folks over there no doubt. But say anything negative and you are banned. Ironically, some of the folks from that board come here and do just that. Anyone who would remotely think of comparing the CP is easily dismissed.

So I feel the good far outweighs the bad and would ask for a great round of applause for those responsible.

It would be nice if someone who knows the folks past and present who deserve credit to list such.

And to Clark Hunt; open that big wide wallet and give use a team to be admired and feared or just sell the team to someone who cares.

I thank the academy and all its members for recognizing my talent and skills....

It is a sort of bonding together via the internet.

Yes, most all the regulars on here do so for comment or discussion on the chiefs, and it is a good place to get tips on a variety of subjects.

And helpful words for those who are down on their luck and need prayers or kind words.

MahiMike 12-15-2009 09:44 AM

here, here. I 2nd this notion.

Me too; great site

You're welcome.
I will look at some of your posts today for the MVP award.
However, you need to buy my vote.

.....I kid, thanks.

Goldmember 12-15-2009 10:03 AM

I appreciate it as well. Living in NoCal, nobody wants to talk about the Chiefs. At least I can come here to commiserate with fellow Chiefs fans. Plus I've gotten many a laugh from this board and learned a thing or two, so that's all good.

First in with "CP's lost it's burst"

RealSNR 12-15-2009 12:09 PM

One of the biggest founders, Jim (Logical), is regrettably not here with us today. His name definitely deserves mention in a thread like this.

Who was the first to get this site going?

Hydrae 12-15-2009 01:48 PM

Looks like it is getting to be time for someone to write a comprehensive history of the Planet.

Now that's a good idea. I think it would be very interesting.

Anyone to step up to the task?

From a techie side, it was AustinChief. However, my understanding is that it was a pretty large group effort that led the exodus from the Star site.

I remember those days. I liked the Star's board and really hated to have to make a change as everyone does. As I recall the Star was abandoning the board and there wasn't much of a choice.

Interestingly, the donks board was great back then and much more tolerable than its present form. It beat the Star's effort by a mile. I joined that board in 97, maybe 98.

I joined the CP not long after it was originated. By the way, anyone remember when that date was? Work issues and travel didn't allow much participation until I retired. But I would read this site almost every day.

At any rate, I think those folks developed a premier site for the Chiefs faithful.

BigMeatballDave 12-15-2009 04:48 PM

I wouldn't be here if DaKCMan wasn't so Awesome...

ChiTown 12-15-2009 04:51 PM

Without my tireless efforts, none of this would be possible. It's what I do.

The winner gets to write the history, and we have not yet declared a winner.

RNR 12-15-2009 07:05 PM

It is a very cool site. The open topic format keeps it fresh. The Oakland site I hang at is loaded with ads and is slow as hell. It is also Raider talk only and to talk anything else you have to get off the fourm and go to another fourm.

CaliforniaChief 12-15-2009 07:08 PM

I really didn't like the Planet for the first 4-5 months of being here. Of course I stepped into it around draft time, and probably needed to understand the culture before deciding. But it's really cool, and I enjoy talking about all kinds of topics here. The personalities are pretty funny, too.

Good thread Jack. I've seen alot here since my membership creation in 2005. I lurk more than anything but trying to be a little more helpful, or hurtful, in posting.

I'm not a football guru like many here but I try to jump in the conversation if it suits me. Anyway a comprehensive history of the planet would be cool to see.

Hog's Gone Fishin 12-16-2009 09:31 AM

This place really sucks. I think I'm leaving forever!

And taking my bags of jizz with me.

our founding father....

Phobia also had a lot to do with the early success of this place. But please do not tell him I said that. :doh!:

Logical & KCWolfman were also instrumental in the early days. Truthfully all the early posters were a big part of the success.

I think there were 20-30 that immediately jumped ship to here. A lot of us did because we were being banned on the Starr BB for not following the "rules"

But it didn't take very long for the population to mushroom, to the point that this was a busy place.

Then took back $950,000 of it and half my post count :(

Hard to believe you've had Raider fans around here for as long as the boards been around. Well a month short maybe :D

I just herded cats for a lot of years. This place is community driven so while it took a little time, I got as much out of it as the rest of you.

Quote:

OK kiddies gather round for the lore of ChiefsPlanet is soon to abound.

Once upon a time in the mid 90s many, many of us like the Senator, Logical, Titus and even ole mean DEnise all posted together in an incarnation of the Star BB that was formatted much like todays Planet. We were a hardy group who harbored much anger and venom and we would fight the nights through. As time wore on our numbers grew and a bond did seemingly develop.

Then lo one night the evil witch Becky suddenly set to banning people for political speech in her forum. Many a poster thought it was at the bequest of the Evil DEnise but she doth deny it but defend Becky mightily did she. Soon the regulars were being banned right and left and lo came a savior nigh onto us with an initial parry to Russ (KCWolfman) and a few other. Lo the Planet was born and things were good and a mass exodus did ensue in 2000 August the year AD.

Now the story is told that the wicked DEnise claimed she would never post here, though I have never been able to document its truth, this is a widely held rumor of truth. For many months DEnise only made a token appearance and went back to the Star to lay claim to her now lonely throne, where only the n00Bs and trolls did now roam. All went well until behold technical problems with server volume did raise an ugly head.

Thence Pigskin Park/Pen was doth conceived and rivaled this board for usage and steam. Now the Star BB did shut itself down and an influx of poster at both the Planet and Park did begin and grow and grow did each board rise.

Now it is told that the Park had and Planet had many dual members but for its technical problems was the Planet Noted.

Meanwhile at the Park their arose a clamor by Gaz and DEnise of separation of political matter. As both were mods the owner did listen and split said board into two forums (sound familiar). Well lo and behold traffic in the sports forum began to dwindle while posting was soaring at the Pen we did quibble.

Well DEnise, and Jamie and Thomas and Logical too fought to the degree it killed the Pen too. Away, away, away went all back to the Planet with a better server to boot.

Together we did post in vastness and health while the BB did grow exponentially as well. Then one foggy fall day to what to our wonder cries did appear but that mean ole gal DEnise did appear. Came struggles and bitterness but a community was still built and it seemed nothing could ever be better than the Planet. Then came the evil, evil elections and what even the mean DEnise could not accomplish those elections did and the fabric of the Planet was ripped like a quilt.

A cry came anew from you will never guess who, sayeth Gaz we need to have a separate forum. Now much crying and screaming did ensue, we will ruin the Planet like was done to the Park.

Many votes were held and still no change when suddenly there came a poll with a story like thunder. Big Daddy switched sides and said yeah we need the separation and finally it happened the separation passeth.

Time wore on and survived we did, yet this was not enough to quiet the masses. Take that DC from sight they said and gone wad the DC link forthwith.

Now you have arrived at the time of today and we look forward each day to a new server. Because through it all we have endure the technical problems because in the end we have been a community and that has held us together.

I know this was not great literature but I have told this story so many times I had to do it different just to amuse myself.

Jack 12-17-2009 01:17 PM

I remember Denise, but didn't she morph into someone else or just disappear.

Splitting the political from football may have bee wise, but that particular logic doesn't seem to keep many absolutely unrelated and often foolish threads to appear ad infinitum.
