Shanahan to DC... things falling in line?

I looked on the first two pages, didn't see a thread. Interesting developments..

Seems like Dan Snyder is trying his ass off to get Shanahan before Wade Phillips gets fired.

I guess Shanahan really isn't to thrilled with the idea of following Jay Cutler to Chicago. The reports that he flirted with the idea of trading Cutler last season seem truer by the day.:)

Although, I believe MS denied it...

I would dump Haley today for Shanny. We should have gone after him last season.

You would think one of these days some of these coaches would learn never go coach the Raiders or the Redskins because they have meddling owners who are stupid.

I think that's hy schnider hired allen yesterday. It's a proverbial, "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" type of move to lure in head coaches.

You have to figure that at some point... Snyder is going to "hit" with a coaching hire. The guy has no problem spending $ or trying to win, he just hasn't spent it wisely or made the best moves. The Skins have talent on both sides... they're not totally horrible, so get the right coach and let him do his thing... who knows what could happen.

Their GM just quit, maybe that's why.

Is Elway making a comeback?

HemiEd 12-18-2009 09:43 AM

Question MHM, doesn't Denver ownership, Pat Bowlen, still owe him a LOT of money?

Bowlen fired Shanahan with 3 years and $20 million left on his contract. As long as Shanahan goes without a job Bowlen will have to pay his entire yearly salary. As soon as he gets a job Bowlen will only have to pay half of his salary.

RippedmyFlesh 12-18-2009 10:30 AM

If I were shanahan I would talk to marty before taking that job.

That's still a shit ton of money should Shanny get employed again. Which I have no doubt that he will.

Personally I'd sit out for 3 years and enjoy vacations, friends, fam etc., then come back after Bowlen paid it all off.

He didn't take a job with espn or anything like that so I think he wants back in coaching bad.A younger coach like gruden could blow off a few years I don't think shanahan wants to close to the end of his career.

I'd agree with this as well. Prob should have accounted for his age.

He will have to supplement up to his salary owed. So if he is owed $5MM a year and he signs on for $2MM. Then Bowlen will have to pay him $3MM.

so shanny goes to DC, does he keep j.campbell or look to draft a new QB?

I don't know what the contract situation is or what is going to be available in FA, but I would think he has to stay on another year while they groom a rookie... if that is the way they go in the draft.

Jason has proved that he can produce, even with scrubs in recent weeks. I don't think he's horrible, but you never know.

LaChapelle 12-18-2009 11:27 AM

What's another rat in DC?
nothing special

I hear you though because I would kick back and just watch the cash flow in for nothing too.

He keeps Campbell, teaches the offensive line to knee dive then wears out the bootleg.

Shit,I bet they go QB in round 1.Ok maybe not but I'd have to think they bring in someone that can run Shanny's bootlegs behind a cut/chop block/cheap shot OL.

What has Shanahan done? Just asking...

Good place for him... :D

Mile High Mania 12-22-2009 09:31 AM

I'd have to see the list of FA QBs... but, I would think the focus would be shoring up the OL and WR. If Cooley can return healthy, he's good (obviously). Portis and company... not sure about their contracts, but they need to think about moving in a new direction.

Portis is entering his 9th season, so he's not done yet, but the youth movement needs to be considered.

I think Campbell can be serviceable for a year... fix some of their issues, improve the game plan and who knows, maybe he can play 1-2 years while they groom a rookie QB or other.

He's accomplished more in OTA's as a head coach than Todd Haley has in his entire head coaching career. Does that give you some perpsective?
:D

Dungver. Donkholes.That better?
Although after your "boys" get thoroughly smashed next week, the Chokeholes might better explain their fall from grace.

I dunno... I still think you have a thing for the baloney poney. See, this is why I hope that the Chiefs turn things around, and soon. The failures of the organization are making perfectly normal people (giving you the benefit of the doubt) go insane.

Neither you nor I nor 1 in 100 Americans can understand the deeply entrenched NEED that good professional football coaches have for the grueling workload and excitement that comes with gameday.

That's why few successful coaches manage to stay away for very long.

Well played sir.ROFL

KCDC 12-22-2009 12:36 PM

The Redskins are in need of many upgrades. Their OL is bad. Portis is ready to have a fork stuck in him. Campbell is not the answer. He shows flashes and has a good arm, but is not a smart reader of the defense. So, look for them to go OL or QB in round one. RB in round two or three.

alpha_omega 12-22-2009 12:48 PM

Shouldn't they fire their current coach first. Seriously...Zorn is clearly toast, why are they letting him hang around?

CaliforniaChief 12-22-2009 12:48 PM

This is interesting.

I'm surprised Shanahan's taking this job. There must be a LOT of money and control coming his way. I just don't see the control thing with Snyder, unless has been said earlier, he realizes he has to change his ways.

With the Dallas job looming and his connections there, as well as potential openings in Chicago, Houston, and Charlotte...it could have been quite the bidding war.

Yeah no kidding.

The way last night's game was going, I half expected to see Shanahan walk onto the sidelines during the 4th quarter, personally take Zorn's headset from his head, and start running the game.
