Merry Christmas Nzoner

Coming back from KC last night and my Yukon died about 20 miles from St Joe.Thankfully Triple A took care of the tow for a minimal fee but now I find out it's going to take $1300 in repairs. :banghead:

Merry Christmas Nzoner :(

How old is the vehicle and mileage? Might be better just to go buy a new car?

It started missing and then died all within a few minutes. My mechanic hasn't clarified yet but he thinks I got some real bad gas at a QT in KC(I filled up yesterday there) and if so is going to save a sample in case I have an opportunity to try and get reimbursed.

I really no nothing about cars,so I'm going on what he tells me.

Fuel pump? That's the only problem I had with my '04 Yukon. I think it's a common problem for them. Common and expensive.

It's a pain in the ass, and an expensive part.

Unless things have changed in the past 15 years or so, it's not really that hard.

It would probably be best to fix it and then I'd take it off your hands for, oh, $250 or so.

Bugeater 12-18-2009 03:29 PM

Hmmm...the bad gas thing is probably a stretch. In the 25 years I've been driving I've only had one incident of that, although it was from some gas I bought in Kansas City as well.

kysirsoze 12-18-2009 03:32 PM

Just dropped 2,000 on my Honda in general repairs and maintenance. Not one thing, mostly my own procrastination catching up with me.

burt 12-18-2009 03:45 PM

And Merry Christmas to Burt as well!!!.... My home heater shot craps. The "Heat exchanger" died. They don't make it any more. New Furnace....$1000.00+

mlyonsd 12-18-2009 03:50 PM

Well if we want to turn this into a pity party.....

A week ago my satellite modem crapped out.
Same weekend my washer, then my stove.

I'm up to about $1200.

We don't have them around here, but when I was back there they seemed to be a first class outfit.

How the hell would you ever prove something like that though? Seems like an easy "guarantee" to offer in that it would be almost impossible to prove.

Receipt for the gas, receipt for the tow, receipt for the repairs, and a letter from the mechanic.

That is how I would approach it anyway.

But my question is how could the mechanic prove that it was bad gas that caused the mechanical problems and not some unexpected engine trouble? I'm sure you know a helluva lot more about it. How could you prove that it was their gas and not whatever was left in the tank from another gas station. Seems like way too many variables to legally prove it was QT's fault. For Joe's sake, I hope I'm wrong...

stlchiefs 12-18-2009 04:57 PM

I had a buddy who got a new fuel system in a truck from QT after it went bad on him. Granted he was a regular QT customer and could show he always bought his gas from them for his lawn care business. QT did back up their guarantee for him though. It's worth a shot, especially if your mechanic says that's the problem.
