It was pretty good for a SD Earthquake. Nothing like an LA Earthquake, but I figured Los Angelenos would have felt it.

ToxSocks 12-30-2009 01:02 PM

I just posted about it in another thread

Kinda creepy when you live in SoCal

Stewie 12-30-2009 01:02 PM

How bad was it Buck? Did stuff fall from shelves or anything?

Nah, just made the windows rattle. It was a baby.

Buck 12-30-2009 01:05 PM

Nothing fell. Some of my action figures that I have on my desk shifted and the building was definitely swaying. My computer chair was moving back and forth about 2 inches each way and I got that feeling in my stomach that you get when going down a big fall in a roller coaster.

CaliforniaChief 12-30-2009 01:06 PM

Nothing here...but I'm north of LA.

Pooping? Nah, I'd never describe that kind of feeling in my rectum as "earth moving". Different strokes for different folks.

88TG88 12-30-2009 01:13 PM

nope

KCUnited 12-30-2009 01:22 PM

I guess you've never heard of the New Madrid fault. Our earthquakes kick your earthquakes' asses!

That would be like me asking if you've ever heard of the Great San Diego Snow Storm of 1968.

Well I'll be damned. I didn't think there were any Faults east of California.

The last New Madrid quakes made church bells ring as far away as Boston. There are no mountains to contain the effects, so they just go on and on. These quakes tend to happen approximately every 300 years, and it's been 200 years since the last one. An 8.0 magnitude quake in that area would lay waste to much of the midwest and economically cripple the country in a way we'd probably not recover from.

And it will happen again. Hopefully not in our lifetimes.

sd4chiefs 12-30-2009 01:57 PM

I felt it. No big deal.

Try living near Yellowstone. They have earthquakes almost 24/7 (although very minor). But we got hit with a doozy a couple years ago that did major damage to a few brick buildings in Helena. It sounded like a tractor-trailer was about to drive through my front door.

It isn't east of California. It's just a really long way west of California.

Quietest Storm 12-30-2009 04:26 PM

Hmm, my natural disaster class at SDSU never mentioned an "SD earthquake"

What? Did you already forget about the earthquake we had here two weeks ago?

Sam Hall 12-30-2009 04:31 PM

It's wasn't an earthquake

It was a Suhnami

the city's of memphis and stl would be leveled because of mostly brick construction. it will reverse the flow of the mississipi and missouri rivers. its been minorly active recently ( around 4.0 quakes) but thats a good thing, its when it has time to build up a bunch of energy before it snaps that causes the big ones.
