Enberg's farewell

CBS' Dick Enberg, who turns 75 later this month, signs off from his storied NFL broadcasting career with Sunday's Kansas City Chiefs-Denver Broncos game.

It should be noted that during Enberg's NBC days, he was the play-by-play voice of all three Cowboys Super Bowl victories of the 1990s. CBS' Ray Scott called the Super Bowl VI victory with Pat Summerall working as the analyst. Summerall called the Super Bowl XII victory with Tom Brookshier in the analyst seat.

Come next baseball season, Enberg will be the television voice of the San Diego Padres.

Dick Enberg, in his heyday, was the best.

He was very good.

It's definitely time for him to go. I was permanently scarred by the "Oh-my" on the Chargers' long snapper.

I wonder if Tim Cassel will catch a pass from Matt Castille.

Hammock Parties 01-01-2010 09:24 PM

I hope they show lots of shots of Enberg. I want to see him quivering with old man shakes.

I used to love him and Merlin Olsen as a team.

Hate to sound like an ass, but it sucks we have to suffer through one more game with him trying to announce.

No doubt.

They were the standard.

Sad to see the great ones age and fade away.

It's going to be an awful game. By halftime he'll break out into old man stories about his career, which will be far more interesting than watching Mark Castle try to complete a throw

Mr. Flopnuts 01-02-2010 01:28 AM

Ahh yes, I'm getting older.

ClevelandBronco 01-02-2010 01:33 AM

The Broncos will be the ones wearing the blue hats, Dick.

Pioli Zombie 01-02-2010 03:11 AM

He is being replaced next year by Dick Clark.

I thought he was great in the 80's and 90's. I can't stand him now. One of the most unprepared guys on CBS at this point. Always forgets names and sometimes forgets where he is. I find him annoying anymore. Glad he is finally retiring.

Phobia 01-02-2010 03:14 AM

Such a shame. Do networks not understand that legends should retire just like the rest of us? Why do they let guys keep going until they have one foot in the grave?

Demonpenz 01-02-2010 07:39 AM

he's being replaced by pat summerall

I liked him and Bill Walsh in the early '90's...

Chief Henry 01-02-2010 10:54 AM

I liked Engberg before he got a man crush on John Elway. Engberg swallowed Elways jiz every time he could.

you mean at calling The French Open, right?

yeah Chang and Lendl was a special one.

RJ 01-02-2010 11:11 AM

I guess most people pay more attention to the announcers than I do. Most of the time I just tune them out. I don't like or dislike Enberg any more or less than any of the others.

Warrior5 01-02-2010 11:12 AM

Chiefs should win one for Dick!

Deberg_1990 01-02-2010 11:14 AM

Love him or hate him, he was once one of the best.

Oh My..Good bye Dick

Fairplay 01-02-2010 11:18 AM

Endberg will be the guy wearing the depends on the outside of his pants.

LaChapelle 01-02-2010 11:21 AM

Fouts will be blowing the Chargers the whole game

Gowdy in the 60s and early 70s, sure.

But in the late 70s and 80s, when Gowdy began to start to decline the way Enberg has, Enberg was the best.
