Charles: "I'll get it another time"

From Yahoo's write up of the game:

Then, Charles ended all doubt with his long TD, which put him in striking distance of the NFL’s single-game rushing record of 296 yards set by Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson in 2007 against San Diego.

Instead, Charles encouraged coach Todd Haley to get seldom-used Javarris Williams(notes) some work.

“I could have (gone) back into the game, but I just went up to the coach (and said) I’m satisfied right now. I’ll get it some other time,” Charles said.

It's all Haley's fault

Cjanz 01-03-2010 09:11 PM

Right on.

Warrior5 01-03-2010 09:12 PM

Wow. That's either super classy, or he was just plain gassed. Who knows when he'll get that close again.

Bane 01-03-2010 09:12 PM

I hope he does too.

Ehh, I think I'll go with "super classy"...

Crashride 01-03-2010 09:49 PM

Eh I understand its classy but with this team anytime you can claim a record I say we should go for it.

Especially against the Donks. We could have drug them into the record book.

Charles JUST turned 23 years old a few days ago.

It's scary to think what he's gonna be in 3 years.

Yeah. It might be half the season before he gets to play the Broncos again.

CaliforniaChief 01-03-2010 10:36 PM

What a performance today. He is one tough SOB. That said, we do need to make sure and get him some relief from time to time.

Serious bromance evolving.

If we don't get somebody to spell him he'll be what Larry Johnson is now. He can't do 25+ carries a game and keep healthy.

Haley knows this, fortunately.

One of the things to actually like about him. He's not a complete numbskull when it comes to offensive football.

prhom 01-03-2010 11:20 PM

Charles ran off the field when the game was over...RAN off the field. I believe him when he says he could've kept going. The guy had an epic game and couldn't have come at a better time.

But yeah I agree. Haley washes Charles' balls in press conferences and shit so Im sure he wants Charles to have as long a career as possible. He'll get someone to compliment him.

Washed up?

How many good years did we get out of LJ?

Chiefs=Champions 01-03-2010 11:26 PM

I rather like texas running backs

Texas running backs were good this season. Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, and Jamaal Charles all had a great season.

Bullshit, it's the "I got my money and want the hell out of KC attitude"

Hammock Parties 01-04-2010 12:39 AM

The nice thing about Charles is....A) it's clear he's too small to take a career-ending load and B) he avoids contact well enough that he'll last longer.

KCrockaholic 01-04-2010 12:45 AM

Just wanted to say. To all of you who argued with me, that starting Charles would make no difference in our running game..You Were Wrong!

wow. thats worth some serious props.

That's not classy, it's stupid. If you have a chance to set an NFL record (and not the kind KC has been setting - lowest sacks, most dropped passes, etc.,) you go for the record. Better yet, you get it against one of the teams biggest rivals.

Chief Henry 01-04-2010 09:28 AM

Refreshing to say the least. I don't think LJ would have said any thing like that.

Sully 01-04-2010 09:39 AM

Hootie is now officially rooting against Charles.

BigRock 01-04-2010 09:45 AM

There's extended quotes from Charles on ESPN saying he didn't want to go back in because the Broncos had given up and he'd want to break the record in a competitive situation, not just trying to pad his yards.

RINGLEADER 01-04-2010 10:46 AM

Would have been nice to see him get it but also nice to know that he'll get it another time.

:)

Mama Hip Rockets 01-04-2010 12:49 PM

I concur. I must say too, man it's nice that the Chiefs have a Stud RB again. I think so far Charles has panned out to be more and anyone ever expected he would be at NFL level. Props to the kid not only for what he's done on the field, but for little things like this story suggests. Sounds like a total class act and great team player. I wish him nothing but success.

CoMoChief 01-04-2010 01:21 PM

So is that what he really said or is that what the PR dept told Charles to say because Haley had other plans in mind??? Nobody knows.
