Osborne throws down the gauntlet to Boise St.

Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne has offered Boise State a 2-for-1 scheduling proposal, he said Friday on the Idaho Sports Talk with Caves and Prater radio show on KTIK. The proposal calls for two games in Lincoln, Neb., and one in Bronco Stadium, with the series starting in 2015, Osborne said. Boise State officials were not available for comment late Friday afternoon.

Sweet! i'll go check the local paper to see if there is an update.

beer bacon 01-16-2010 11:49 AM

Why doesn't Osborne offer a 1 for 1 or 2 for 2? Why should a team the caliber of Boise settle for a 2 for 1 with any school?

kstater 01-16-2010 11:50 AM

I wouldn't call it throwing down the gauntlet. BSU has been begging teams to play for years. You could say Nebraska's finally stepped up.

Osbourne is just trying to leverage a good deal by going public.

If Boise turns it down then they look like they were full of crap all these times when they said they couldn't get anyone to play them.

Because their stadium only seats 32,000 people.

There you go. If Boise doesn't accept they'll get called on it, :D

MGRS13 01-16-2010 12:01 PM

Boise will except and nebraska will be lucky to go 1 and 2 in the series.

Because Nebraska does not need Boise State. Nebraska has a stadium that holds over 80,000 Boise State has a stadium that holds 33,000. This is a very sweet deal for Boise State and generous of Osborne~

I wouldn't go as far as generous but a good deal for Boise. They have been asking for anything including a 1 for none away deal. It would have been better if Nebraska would have given them the chance on the 2011 open date but 2015 is Ok.

Agreed I thought about the way it came out when I posted it. It is a win situation for Boise State and one NU may regret~

Generous because Nebraska will pay big bucks to buy out of the remaining 2 games after they take a good old fashioned ass kicking in the first game.

I think that's Boise's biggest problem. Their stadium is too small to make it economically feasible for teams to have a 1-1 series with them.

Bugeater 01-16-2010 12:12 PM

That's surprising seeing that NU already has a couple tough non-con games scheduled with Southern Miss and Miami in 2015.

IMO If Boise continues to be as good as they have been in the next couple of years, their coach will find a better job somewhere. By 2015 Boise will be a creampuff again. So NU gets some easy non-con games if they accept, and Boise looks like assholes if they don't. It's Win-Win for Osborne and NU..

I personally can't wait for them to finish/addon the ends of the stadium. The endzone seats suck azz

I doubt seriously NU will buy out. As I stated in the post right below yours NU may regret it. That said I would not be shocked if NU swept them~

Nah I'm not. Boise is a way better program then Nebraska right now. You better hope the big P is still there in 2015.

Boise_Chief 01-16-2010 12:24 PM

If NU drops one game they regret it, 2 and it's a disaster and if they drop 3 it might get BSU into a better conference.

They may be, but the games aren't being played right now, and who knows where either team will be in 5 years. Either way that was a reeruned statement because NU isn't going to try to buy their way out of it if they lose the first game.

Boise plays in a lesser conference and is handicapped financially. Nebraska is 2nd in the Big 12 only to Texas and not by much. When the Huskers reach their team goals Pelini will see the $$$. He's not going anywhere. He's stated this was his dream job since the first go round in 03. The Huskers will be a favorite this year to win the Big 12 and possibly the National Championship. Payday for Pelini could come as soon as Jan 2011. :thumb:

Bugeater 01-16-2010 12:45 PM

Whoaa Alan...let's tone down the Nat'l Championship talk, we still have a long way to go before that's even close to being a possibility.

Well.. yeah. But they will be a favorite to win the Big 12 this year. Baby steps. :D

Jesus. It's his dream job until someone else shows him the money, just like every other coach.

Boise's three coaches into this run. What makes you think that they can't bring up another one?

ChiefsCountry 01-16-2010 02:00 PM

Actually its their fourth - Peterson, Hawkins, Koetter, and Houston Nutt.

HypnotizedMonkey 01-16-2010 02:04 PM

I too, am throwing down the Gauntlet.

Titty Meat 01-16-2010 03:30 PM

Spot on. The Nebraska haters crack me up with their ridiculous talk that Boise State is the program with the upper hand.

Taco John 01-16-2010 03:42 PM

I hate Boise State (and am from Idaho), but this is a very generous deal by Osbourne, and will make Nebraska a friend of the state for some time to come. Boise will reward them by travelling well.

tk13 01-16-2010 06:21 PM

I don't know, a 2-for-1 that's 5 years down the road.. not exactly throwing down a "gauntlet". But the Nebraska fans seem to be acting like it's 1995 anymore.

They got Oregon at home this year. And they're playing Virginia Tech next year at Fed-Ex Field. And they get Oregon State at home too.

They've been whining about not being able to get people to schedule them even without asking for a return visit. Plus as has been stated the economics don't make sense for a lot of major programs to go play at Boise with Boise's tiny stadium.

/not a Nebraska fan

alanm 01-16-2010 06:30 PM

Also saw on the Lincoln Journal Star that Osborne offered the deal months ago and still not a peep from Boise St.
The reason it's become public now is because TO mentioned it on a Boise radio station yesterday.

tk13 01-16-2010 06:32 PM

Yeah, but aren't they looking for someone for 2011? That's what I thought they were having trouble with, not 2015. That should be Kellen Moore's senior season.

The problem is that Nebraska's schedule is full for the next couple of seasons. That is unless someone drops out.

2011 won't work unless Boise is willing to wait until 2016 for the return trip, NU will only do one non-con road game each year and they are booked up until then.

We still have home non-con openings from '11 on.

I think this is fun stuff, but Nebraska doesn't need to play Boise State. Nebraska is going to play Miami, Tennessee, Texas and Oklahoma during that time period.
